Puerto Rico's 78 cities are extremely beautiful. The big island it self is 5,345 square miles, and has 1,900 square miles of lakes, more than the size of Long Island which is 1,400 square miles. Puerto Rico also has many islands and 198 cays and attols, that amount to 7,000 square miles or more combined. It has a lot to offer. Many of it's off chore islands are bigger than the size of Manhattan, which is only 22 square miles. The island of Viequez, PR., is almost 3 times the size of Manhattan.
I was in Old San Juan back in May. You can visit the two forts, San Felipe and San Cristobal for $20 and wander freely as long as you want (until closing time, not that you'll want to stay that long). You can also visit the grounds of the governor's mansion for free but because it is a working government building you must be escorted by the tour guide and the tour runs about an hour. Just let the guard at the entrance know you are interested in a tour and they will arrange a time for when you can show up. I would avoid the national cemetery between the two forts. It's a disgrace how they let it deteriorate. The churches are also nice to tour. The Cathedral is a modest church, don't expect Notre Dame or St. Peter's but it is a nice place to pray, meditate, or rest a while from the heat. The church of San José was recently renovated. It is the 2nd oldest church in the western hemisphere. A convent next to the governor's mansion has a nice mosaic and they put out an elaborate Christmas scene during the holiday. You can check it out if you go in December. I recommend you stop by the street cafe Cafe 4 Estaciones for coffee and pastries.
They mentioned Isla Verde which is great! A little further west if a locals beach PINONES BEACH which is really amazing. A locals beach which is so much fun and the experience is worth it!
Was there for a few months, lots of homeless in Santurce and elsewhere. People will say why mention this but I Saw a lot of transgenders at night in Santurce, I also partied in Old SanJuan

you have to ask yourself why there are more Puerto Ricans in mainland U.S. than on the island 🏝 personally PR is just a place to party and the beaches other than that not much else to do
