Well, here's a "twist" on your video and advice - but your solution worked just fine. I went to change a blade in my Skil 77 (about 45 years old now (I'm 68)) and the damn arbor bolt and the washer plate beneath it spin and spin no matter which direction I turn 'em. (Got the blade stopped with a screwdriver - like I've done all my life - didn't even know about that arbor lock button. lol.) I started off the right way (clockwise - I know my tool!) and then figured maybe I didn't remember how so tried the other way then went back to the right way again. Shot some WD-40 type stuff on the bolt and washer & let it sit, and spritzed some more. And let it sit again. Turn, turn, turn is all they did! Never had this happened before. (Granted, the blade's been in there without use for maybe a year or two ... but still! It's not like it's been sitting out in the rain. Been under a table in my living room, for heaven's sake!)
I'm thinking ... OK Gary: two other options. (1) take a propane torch to the bolt-head and see if that doesn't free it up somehow. (2) If that doesn't work, cut a quarter or half the blade off (an Irwin Marathon Carbide, as it turns out, though that info was on the other side of blade on the 77 Wormdrive, of course) with a grinder, down close to the arbor, so as to get better access under the blade for some more spritzing closer to the arbor itself. Neither of these options were very appetizing to me.
So. OK. I come to your video. A hammer, eh? Well, I *had* taken a hammer to it also - just some light taps right square down on the bolt head - but that hadn't helped. But a hammer on the blade wrench? Worth a try, if the damn bolt and washer weren't "free-wheeling", but they were, so how the hell is that gonna work?
Worth a whirl, though, I guess (considering my other options -- see above). So I put my wrench on it (1/2" socket on a stubby ratchet), set for clockwise, gave the little stub a sharpish wack or two .... and ... Success. Sweet Sweet Success!! Sometimes a "shock to the system" is just what's called for, even if it seems like it oughtn't work at all.
    Thanks, man. Very much obliged.

The right way to do this is to use a six point socket (usually 13 mm or 1/2"), on a long-handled 3/8" ratchet or 3/8" breaker bar. Never use an adjustable wrench. It will slip off, and may round the corners of the bolt. If your bolt head requires an Allen wrench, clean the sawdust out of the indented pocket on the bolt head, and use a long-handled Allen wrench to loosen the bolt. Make sure the Allen wrench is fully seated in the bolt head. When reinstalling the blade and bolt, tighten the bolt firmly, but do not overtighten.

I have the same issue only on a Dremel saw with 4" blade which uses an allyn wrench to tighten/loosen the blade bolt. Also the lock is on top without a way to wedge it into position. I have oiled around the locking nut and let it set for several days. I also used the hammer trick which launched the wrench into the air. I have repeated this process several times without success. Any ideas out there?? It's just me so not even a second pair of hands to assist.

When I purchased my circular, saw the people at Lowe’s, put the blade on for me. So I went to change the blade easy to get the hex nut off. But after reading manual, etc. I realized the upper and lower washers were both on the top side. I cannot get my blade out because what’s left in the middle is too high and my blade will not go over it. Any suggestions?

Letting it soak with a little penetrating oil or even WD40 for an hour or so makes it much easier. Probably won't need an end clamp, just a light hit with a hammer.
I had this condition after I used my saw with a masonry / stone blade to score some rock slabs before breaking. My fault for not removing the blade immediately afterwards, but a little WD40 and a tap with the 16oz claw hammer fixed it right up. Just a lot of cleaning of stone dust afterwards.

I own a vintage Sears 7 inch circular saw. There is no lock to prevent the blade from spinning. The manual recommends inserting a screwdriver through the teeth to jam the blade against the frame or body of the saw. I am concerned that jamming a screwdriver into the teeth could damage the teeth. I use a pair of Vice Grips instead pressing only on the flat portion of the blade. The jaws of the Vice Grips are attached about 5/8” to 3/4” away from the teeth. The Vice Grips jam against the face plate.

I bought mine secondhand and spent 20 minutes with a bench vise, bottle of penetrating oil, and a 4 lb hammer beating on it to no avail. Was thinking even might try just clamping the vise real good and turning on the power lol not sure. Might just drill the whole bolt out now because it's already kinda stripped. I'll try again now that it's been sitting since the morning.

The Fixer actually, I figured something out right after I made the post. It’s an old Craftsman saw and if you are using a Craftsman blade, there is a hole in the blade you match up with a hole in the guard. Alas, it wasn’t a Craftsmen blade.
To compound matters, the spacer washer was loose so even if held the blade, the shaft would still spin. I took apart the back of the motor and the only thing I could find to clamp down was the armature which is not a good idea. Finally, I just lucked out and poked a long screwdriver into an opening that went up into the gear drive or something. This kept everything stationary and allowed me to get the nut loose!
I’ve had the craftsman saw for close to 30 years now and still going strong. If I ever get a new one, I will make sure it has something to lockup the shaft as yours does.

This video as most on TH-cam is reversed imaged. So, it appears he is turning the screw backwards. It's nor righty tighty, instead is is righty loosey. How many people are completely confussed? So here is the bib thing. I purchased a brand new Diablo 71/4 24 tooth blade. First we know that the threads are reverse threaded and that the teeth have to point in the direction the motor turns. I went to put it on and thought my old age was catching up with me. Am I just stupid, I thought. Why is the printing on the back side of the blade? Maybe it's just Diablo that is stupid. I watched about three TH-cams on changing a circular saw blade. They all showed the blade just like on here, printing on the correct side. I had my wife come in and watch it with me, She came to the same conclusion, the printing is on the wrong side of the blade. I did an internet search " why is my Diablo blade's printing on the wrong side of the blade" No results for that search. I looked at TH-cam again and found one that showed the man putting it on with the printing on the reverse side. He said that it's a common mistake that people assume the printing would be on the side that you would see when installed. So, W.T.F.?
