Wow, this is amazing, as usual. I will say it again, YOU are my favorite general genealogy person and Diahan Southard is my favorite DNA person.

Here’s an idea for a future video: what to do at a family reunion. On my way to one, 60 odd year old 2nd cousins and up!

I have done videos on interviewing family members. I suggest you set up a camera in the corner around the family gathering when the conversation turns to family (usually around a meal) and just let it record. People will forget that is it there. Audio is key... if you can get close with a mic that is best but sometimes hard to do at a family reunion. Most of all, enjoy your family.

Great tip. I do have TH-cam videos. I have not uploaded them to Ancestry because live people are in them.

Hi Connie, I'm hoping you can help me get more information about the CCC - the Civilian Conservation Core. My Grand father, Loyd J Mickelson was a quiet man and rarely spoke about his experiences but when I asked him about it he told me that he was "just a ditch digger" then laughed! He came from a farming/ranching family who lived near Thatcher, Idaho and was 19 yrs old in 1933. My mom remembers seeing pictures of him with different groups of men in camps but I haven't seen them, YET. The area he worked in was called The River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho state but have not been able to find the camp he was assigned to. I've been researching this topic for a couple of years & have searched the National and state Archives with no luck. I found the "Happy Days" newspaper and several other resources that I found through Ancestry's Card Catalogue to be very interesting but of no help finding records for members. Thank you very much for all the great information you share with us! You've helped me get remotivated and get past several "stuck" situation with my trees! :D Good luck, if you choose to dig in and research the CCC!

I would research newspapers in the area and time frame. Go to FS Wiki to figure out what papers were in the area and if they are online. Try county libraries too. This sounds like a private group and not a military group so I don't think it would be a the Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, but you might check.

I found my step ggf listed as working a CCC Camp on the Census. It listed the town of the camp. Check local museums or historical societies in the area. New Hampshire Telephone Museum had information CCC workers who helped digging ditches for the Telephone poles.

I'm doing that now, but I need instructions on how to identify each person. I can log & name them at the time they appear. Should I do that on a document, or right in the movie? The home movie I have has my father's parents who were born in Poland in the 1890's.

If you have the ability to edit video then I would add it to the video as visible font for those watching. You can always add information to the description area on the video as well. I would add chapter markers. I do this on every video.
This video explains how to add chapter markers to your video on TH-cam. th-cam.com/video/yfEdhlBuxCU/w-d-xo.html

I have a family reunion coming up! There will be about 40 of us and I am going to ask some questions to the oldest and 2nd oldest generations. What type of questions should I ask? The eldest will be 98 and the youngest at 32

    • @GenealogyTV

I would print out some free family history charts and group sheets and ask them to fill them out and bring them to the reunion. Also, ask about events in history that may have affected their lives.
