I’m here after watching Rodman’s speech, my initial thought was “ maybe I should watch this later, Rodman’s was so emotional.” But Iverson, this dude is a beast. While it’s often “unmanly” to wear your heart on your sleeve. Whose more manly then these two. He’s something special. Great speech. A boss among men, and damn near the pinnacle of effort.
This is one of the best acceptance speeches of all time in any field. He thanked not only his friends, family, mentors, and idols, he thanked his enemies, his competitors, his betrayers, and his critics for making him stronger-and he named names and told tales while doing it. Deep, thoughtful, and simply amazing.
Most of those who attended on Hall of Fame thank to their enemies, competitors, critics, to the ones who didn´t trust or believe, etc. Main example of it it´s Michael Jordan
A LOT of people forget that coming out of high school, AI was a top dual threat QB recruit coming out of the Newport News, VA. area as well as one of the best basketball recruits, off the court “problems” or not in America. He was apparently a great baseball player earlier in his HS career as well.
Damn - he didn't forget ANYBODY. I started listening to see if he thanked me! You could tell this guy was loyal to the bone - a beautiful thing to see.

Allen just wanted to be loved and appreciated for being himself and not a phony version of what people thought he should be. He had no problem showing his vulnerabilities. Doesn't get any realer than this man. Much respect, Philly loves you forever.
I love AI but he was a selfish player. It's why his career ended the way it did. Small guys in the NBA have to walk a thin line if they want to win. AI got his buckets and that's why we love him, but it's also part of the reason he doesn't have a championship.

I lived in Philly in 2001 and it is impossible to overstate how important he was to us. If I were to ever meet him, I would shake his hand and thank him for the most exciting summer of my life. I can't adequately explain just how exciting that year was. Philly is the underdog city. The movie Rocky is about Philadelphia, it's uncrushable spirit and dogged resilience. AI embodied that perfectly. Small, flawed and outgunned, he persevered and prevailed solely on heart. Like in 1776, when some scrappy colonists took on the greatest empire the world had ever seen by declaring independence in Philadelphia.... It's about heart and determination. We didn't love Allen because he was dominant, or the greatest but because he fought with a ferocity that gave every underdog hope.
I or no one could’ve said, what you just said, any better. I was in Philadelphia at the same time. I moved from Africa to the city of brotherly love for grad school. It Was the most exciting summer and 7 years of my existence, watching basketball or any sport. the guy was just unrelenting on the court and authentic, in life. For better or worse. I miss him in the game. I don’t watch nba much anymore and now I live in London. (So the time difference with the schedule of the games, makes it almost impossible) No player like him, since him. Pound for pound, inch for inch. And he was not 6 feet tall. He was shorter. Which makes him even more remarkable. Wow
The street life was even better. Girls looked better. Chill spots was poppin. Seems like when he left it fell off. But b4 iverson philly was great. Kinda weird
Rest in peace Coach John Thompson💔💔💔😭 A list of John Thompson accolades: - First African-American head coach to win a major collegiate championship - 2× NBA champion ('65, '66) - NCAA champion ('84) - NABC Coach of the Year ('85) - 🥉 Olympics ('88) - 3× Big East COTY ('80, '87, '92) - HOF class of '99 Just to list a few🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 R.I.P Coach
Some of his greatest accomplishments were those that you won't see on paper. What he did for the young black athletes of this country specifically from the inner city will for me always outweigh any award he received.
There is only one Allen Iverson ❤️🤍💙. He is his own category is the only way I can describe my admiration for him. He gives Philadelphia a better name, represents the best parts of the city.
It sure is a CRIME. I feel the same about Dan Marino in football. Dan was the best pure passer I ever saw. Certain players are so undeniably GREAT that you really want them to be world champs at least once is their storied careers. Iverson was one of a kind.
Allen Iverson is one of the greatest players to have ever played in the NBA. It's sad that he didn't win a championship during his career. Thanks for the memories AI..
Ring or no ring this is why A.I. will forever be one of the most loved players in NBA history.... and maybe the most misunderstood. So many people (mainly in the media) killed this man and called him selfish... uncoachable... a thug... when he’s always been one of the realest human beings out there. Even after the battles that he had with Larry Brown he brought him up there on the stage with him and sung his praises. Man had me in tears for about 90% of that 30 min speech.
justin wilson yah you can. I'm form Newport News. Like 20 mins form his high school and everyone in the 757 pretty much knows all this stuff about him.
"I want you to be proud of yourself. I want you to walk around and understand that You are A Hall-of-Famer." The best praise I've ever heard someone say to their spouse - bar none.
Do you all understand his crying is from the heart of a humble man. This man almost lost it all, but God, his mother, and the village that raised him to be a great basketball playing man didn't let it happen. ❤YouAI
Congrats to Allen Iverson for becoming an NBA Hall Of Famer. He was actually a pure joy to watch on the basketball court. His induction into the NBA Hall Of Fame is well deserved.
One of the GREATEST, ever! I’ll never forget the 2001 NBA Finals...Allen Iverson and a broken squad vs. The Mighty Lakers. The great Iverson still gave them a run for their money.
Growing up in Chicago, I was naturally a Jordan fan. Basketball was my life. Scottie is my all time favorite player. 5'10 trying to emulate a 6'7 two-way small forward wasn't a good look lol Then I saw AI play and I wanted to play just like him. AI obviously never heard of me and never will, but AI pushed me to be a better player and because if him, rain, snow, didn't matter, I was playing. I wasn't good enough for college, but I kept playing. I'm 35 now, and everyday either before or after work, I'm playing basketball, always imagining AI guarding me. My motivation, The Answer.
Whew chile…when he honored his wife, I got all emotional. She’s so deserving and it’s amazing that he made sure to tell her she’s a huge part of where he is. Indeed a Hall of Fame couple.

Thats what i like about Iverson he was his own person and didnt change to fit in with anybody . he always believed in being himself and being his own person.
Allen Iverson gave a nontraditional inception speech, where he made himself vulnerable and showed his human side. His emotional thank you to coach John Thompson was a tough act to follow. May God continue to bless him and show favor on his family...
To this day people don't get that basketball is a fucking team sport. He played in a tough era without much help. If AI would've also gotten a little more help from his front offices he'd certainly be a champ now.
Allen is pound for pound the best player in the world and had the heart of a lion seen him play with a sprained knee ,broken fingers and turned ankle and still dropped 40 with 14 assist. The man had heart.
Whenever I feel a need to be lifted, this is one of my favorite speeches to listen to. I keep it locked and loaded in my list. What a truly exceptionally inspirational story. So when they say, "Nay", I say, "They said I couldn't do it...but I did".
A really great speech. You could tell that is truly from the heart and not just something written down. I really laughed though when he described Michael Jordan. "He had this aura, he was glowin, i just looked at em, i looked at his shoes, and he had the Jordan's on!" LOL it cracked me up hard
He’s so secure . The way he’s just himself and how funny his voice is for his daughters lol you can tell he’s actually a good dad. You can see it in his kids eyes the love they have for him
if anyone deserved to be in the NBA Hall Of Fame, it's none other than Allen Iverson. he changed basketball culture forever and had serious moves. but no matter what he did, good or bad, his fans loved him and in return, he loved his fans back. yeah he got traded to the Nuggets and then to the Pistons but he was still a Sixer and he's a Sixer for life
He sounds like Denzel Washington‘s character in the movie Glory where he’s giving a shaky speech by the camp fire the night before the big battle. “I am, uh, um, not one for speeches, but ya’ll the onliest family I got.”
wow I've never heard anyone t h at appreciative. That was amazing. His entire speech was thanking everyone on his special day. People called him selfish but this is the real Allen Iverson. Congrats On The Coronation. We'll deserved
he was always that way..the media successfully tore him down...leading fans to feel the same way...they do it to every black player who doesn't follow their protocol or have power duh....they don't know the black player but have the most to write about...They tried to break him but he stood tall
Tupac of the NBA. Him and Pac had that same realness about them. A.I = a real man's man. Congratz AI best little man to ever do it. And thats real talk.
really goes to show the beauty of humanity... man spends 28 minutes thanking others, and 5 million people who don't personally know any of them get teary eyed
Wow! That was the most humblest and realest speech ever given! He thanked everybody! He understood that he did not get to where he is by himself. And he intentionally took the time to thank each and everyone that helped him along the way!
“AKA Daddy send me some money”!!!! That’s fucking gold right there! It seems as though he has a VERY SPECIAL and UNIQUE bond with each one of his children. As a father, a real “Daddy”, I know the importance of having that same relationship with mine, so I know that he’s a real “Daddy”! I felt that love in his voice and saw it in his face.
This is absolutely the most sincerest speech I have ever heard and I have heard thousands of speeches. There was no fluff. Deeply moving originating from purity of heart. God bless you AI!!!
“Coach Thompson was saving my life “ That was powerful! This man was really unplayable when at his peak. Impossible to figure what he were going to do, such was his ferocity, speed, creativity and will to suceed.
Wow what a speech, im not even an A I fan and i cried more than 10 times throughout his whole speech. A real MAN thoroughly inside out. Love ya Allen Iverson.
Though I couldn't understand everything he said, it's definitely thousand times more genuine than the US presidential speech. A.I deserves a place in hall of fame simply because he's a real human being and real master of basketball. Thanks man, for all the inspirations you gave me. A Chinese fan.
He never changed. He didn't polish himself for the media, or a new circle of rich friends. He was simply a street guy who was good at basketball. Gotta respect that.
Evan Zeng I AM AFRICAN AMERICAN, I AND ALSO MY MOM WHO IS 81 YRS. OLD LOVES ALLEN IVERSON. I AM ALSO A FAN OF YAO MING OF THE ROCKETS. YOUR COMMENT WAS VERY KIND.
This has to be, by far, one of the most heartfelt and thorough speeches I have heard thus far. He is ABSOLUTELY without a shadow of a doubt one of the most naturally gifted athletes ever to play a sport!!! God made him small because if he was any taller or bigger no one would have a chance against Him so He made sure He kept it fair by making AI the size that he was.
Barely 6 ft tall & weighed 180 soaking wet but STILL would attack the paint with giants like Shaq, The Admiral, Zo Mourning, etc in traffic. 🤯 Go look up the definition of FEARLESS & you'll see AI's photo. 💯
That’s what sucks about basketball, only 12 people in the history of the nba has made it in the sport being under 6ft. The amount of extremely skilful and talented players just like Allen who can never make it just for not being born tall just sucks and ruins the game imo
Spent 90% of his speech thanking everyone from birth to the end of career. True man and legend.

(So the time difference with the schedule of the games, makes it almost impossible)
No player like him, since him. Pound for pound, inch for inch. And he was not 6 feet tall. He was shorter. Which makes him even more remarkable. Wow
The street life was even better. Girls looked better. Chill spots was poppin. Seems like when he left it fell off. But b4 iverson philly was great. Kinda weird
This comment made me cry 😂
Damn. Well said.
Well said my friend coming from Philly that summer was epic down Frankford Ave!!!!

One of the most underrated sports personalities in history
Truly a great man that just happened to be a coach!!! R.I.P
Thank you again coach Thompson, from all of us but especially AI, forever.
Some of his greatest accomplishments were those that you won't see on paper. What he did for the young black athletes of this country specifically from the inner city will for me always outweigh any award he received.
Old school best! No bullshit ! Game changer !

Yup!!💯🏀🏀‼️
There is only one Allen Iverson ❤️🤍💙. He is his own category is the only way I can describe my admiration for him. He gives Philadelphia a better name, represents the best parts of the city.
Dude is humble as hell. I guess life can do that. What's coolest here is how he's taking all these people into the HoF with him.
It's a crime that this MAN doesn't have a ring, it's absolutely heartbreaking...
Put him with Shaq, Duncan, or in one of the backcourt spots on the '04 Pistons (remember, Larry Brown is the Head Coach) and he has a chip or two.
He Is a Legend tho more then many people Who won rings
You can blame the refs that placed bets against the 76ers
It sure is a CRIME. I feel the same about Dan Marino in football. Dan was the best pure passer I ever saw. Certain players are so undeniably GREAT that you really want them to be world champs at least once is their storied careers. Iverson was one of a kind.
Doesn't matter he is a hall of famer and legend that will be remembered for a very long time
Not only one of the best to play the game but also one of the most genuine .. A.I! #LivingLegend
Indeed
***** 💯💯
Domonique Kyle yes ma am . I just wish he could've gotten one ring at least
Yeah, that's unfortunate but he DEF was one of the best regardless.
Domonique Kyle no doubt I looked up to him more than I did Jordan
Allen Iverson is one of the greatest players to have ever played in the NBA. It's sad that he didn't win a championship during his career. Thanks for the memories AI..
💯
kinda like kevin durant. he will never win a ring.
Yea 3-1 lead.
Kamaal Bartley nah none of his sons ball

Nothing against all the other HOFs, but this was probably the most real HOF speech ever. (Mostly) unscripted, all heart, like AI's game.
Official DramaSydE u
Ring or no ring this is why A.I. will forever be one of the most loved players in NBA history.... and maybe the most misunderstood. So many people (mainly in the media) killed this man and called him selfish... uncoachable... a thug... when he’s always been one of the realest human beings out there. Even after the battles that he had with Larry Brown he brought him up there on the stage with him and sung his praises. Man had me in tears for about 90% of that 30 min speech.
Certain players don't even need 1 2 b held n such high regard
The love that Allen's kids have for him is so easy to see. So awesome!
Facts... I saw that too
When he thanked coach Thompson for saving his life.. I felt that shit
True too...
Real shit
Chris Mareko that gave me goosebumps when i first watched that
I teared up! Felt it to my core. My favorite player ever and knowing his journey all i can say is " Thank You coach John Thompson "
Thank you coach Thompson💯
Allen has a heart of gold. I really love how he thanked the most high first.
Man, you can't watch this with out tearing up!
Totally agreed
justin wilson yah you can. I'm form Newport News. Like 20 mins form his high school and everyone in the 757 pretty much knows all this stuff about him.
justin wilson bro I had to wipe my tears away like twice
kd and lebron did whats better for them which is respectable
"I want you to be proud of yourself. I want you to walk around and understand that You are A Hall-of-Famer." The best praise I've ever heard someone say to their spouse - bar none.
Just sucked the tears right out my face lol!
And you could see that he truly meant what he said 💖💖💖💖
“Thank you Dean Berry for teaching me the crossover.”
As LETHAL as his crossover was, HUMBLE enough to THANK a WALK ON that taught it to him.
Do you all understand his crying is from the heart of a humble man. This man almost lost it all, but God, his mother, and the village that raised him to be a great basketball playing man didn't let it happen.
❤YouAI
I had no clue thanks

One of the GREATEST, ever! I’ll never forget the 2001 NBA Finals...Allen Iverson and a broken squad vs. The Mighty Lakers. The great Iverson still gave them a run for their money.

Once in a millennium player.

Huge respect for his mother. What a great mother.
Sammy Sam I'll smoke u dude u ain't good come meet me

@@hanj31 owwie if he said that and made it I know I can
Thats what i like about Iverson he was his own person and didnt change to fit in with anybody . he always believed in being himself and being his own person.
Allen Iverson gave a nontraditional inception speech, where he made himself vulnerable and showed his human side. His emotional thank you to coach John Thompson was a tough act to follow. May God continue to bless him and show favor on his family...
I like how he thanked the guy for his cross over that he made famous
some dudes with rings will never get this love
To this day people don't get that basketball is a fucking team sport. He played in a tough era without much help. If AI would've also gotten a little more help from his front offices he'd certainly be a champ now.

Geez ...me to....and I cry everytime. Can't count the times I've watched this😁
A really great speech. You could tell that is truly from the heart and not just something written down.
I really laughed though when he described Michael Jordan. "He had this aura, he was glowin, i just looked at em, i looked at his shoes, and he had the Jordan's on!" LOL it cracked me up hard
He See's the battle gear!
That's a man that is really grateful.

He’s so secure . The way he’s just himself and how funny his voice is for his daughters lol you can tell he’s actually a good dad. You can see it in his kids eyes the love they have for him
as a dude who was raised in the hood, i feel his speech 100...its a blessing to acknowledge God's wonderful works
if anyone deserved to be in the NBA Hall Of Fame, it's none other than Allen Iverson. he changed basketball culture forever and had serious moves. but no matter what he did, good or bad, his fans loved him and in return, he loved his fans back. yeah he got traded to the Nuggets and then to the Pistons but he was still a Sixer and he's a Sixer for life
Damn it was hard watching this without trying not to cry. Great speech
He sounds like Denzel Washington‘s character in the movie Glory where he’s giving a shaky speech by the camp fire the night before the big battle. “I am, uh, um, not one for speeches, but ya’ll the onliest family I got.”
@Gods Child they not married anymore??
Talking about Thompson, Larry and his parents hurts bro.. Was so grateful that they took time to nurture him

They didn't stand a chance without him being 6'6 200 lbs still 😂😂😂
