Can you comment how well the Auto Idle feature works on the MDX? I had this feature on an older TLX and disliked it because of the delay of re-engaging the engine. A few times it was actually unsafe at intersections as I tried to clear the car from oncoming traffic. I know you can turn it off, but I would rather not have it at all if it's still unsafe or has rough engine restart noise. Thanks, John

Hi John, thanks for watching and spending the time to drop by. I hope you are doing well. The MDX's auto stop start is very, very good. In the olden days the engine coughed to life with stop start, but now it's pretty seamless. If you're driving, in urban traffic, say stopped at a red light and looking at turning right, then the moment you let off the gas in maybe 1/5 of a second (I'm estimating), you have full power immediately. So to get back to your question the on off was so good I didn't even notice over my two week review period. I hope this answers your question. And yes, you can turn it off is you feel so would be desirable. A point of note, when you test drive the MDX (if you're looking at buying one), the auto start stop may not kick in for a very short test drive. The car computer only stops the car when it thinks it's worth it (I.e it won't stop at every stop light).

its smoother compared to my 18 tlx a-spec but its a habit every time I start car I disengage it very easy half a second to do

Perfection and this doesn't sound well, how on earth did Acura decided not to make this touchscreen in the 21st century? That alone is why I will avoid this

Thanks for watching and your comment. I know that a lot of car reviewers didn't like the infotainment system since it wasn't touchscreen and they didn't like the touchpad. However, I seem to be the only person who didn't lose their mind over that supposed "deficiency" . When it comes to handling, however, IMHO it really is something else. Not all SUVs drive like a sedan which is a feat to pull off if you ask me.

@@thestudentdrivercarreviews I hope they upgrade it to touchscreen so that we can all buy the SUV we love

I agree with that. While I’m ok without a touchscreen, it is an odd omission for many.

@@thestudentdrivercarreviews I think it is a safety feature. Touch screens take your eye off the road. I have a TYPE S on order.

Hi David, congratulations on the the type S. You’re right, I didn’t find the non touchscreen an issue at all.
