All of the Help Desk folks I hired for our IT department came with horror stories and we have only every had one leave us, and they were moving to work in Denmark so I can understand why they left.
I hear help desk is like bootcamp, it sucks but really toughens you out for harder challenges. Though I think any customer service job answering phones is hell to me. Thats why i stopped going for the A+ and went programming.
This video could not have come at a better time! I’m just starting to explore moving into tech but I have a BA in Communication Studies so wasn’t sure what jobs I could even do. Thank you for this!
I'm in UI/UX and it fits my personality exactly. I like making things pretty. And I like computers. My sister even gets it. I once said I liked The Phantom of the Opera and my grandmother was like oh the musical dvd? My sister was like no she wants the pretty one (the movie). My sister prefers backend eng!!
Thank you for posting this. I’m working on my CS degree and have been wondering what non tech careers are available and this was so enlightening . Hope you have a great holiday
Product managers who originally set out to be developers are great, as liaisons between tech and the business side it's so important to have empathy and know what it is you're asking when you want X delivered in Y amount of time
I just took a python course and if I didn’t feel discouraged before I definitely do now after that class. Especially with class/objects. Career Track: data analytics
Thanks for the info! I am working on my coding skills through a coding bootcamp. I hope to become a part time web developer to help me pay for this expensive rent in LA Cali and put me through school. Although I am not majoring in computer science, I feel it is important for women to learn how to code since it is a male dominated industry.
I like ur energy and the anime bits. Subscribed. Came for the knowledge (I'm struggling career wise cuz I don't wanna go back to school necessarily, I do have an AA but Idk what I wanna do) stayed for the vibes. I was in motorsports, low level stuff parts management, n currently in Aviation with a helicopter company as a purchaser/inventory manager n just dont see myself doing it forever. All my career tests said engineering. My particular interests scream engineering or design and yet... Still not sure. Coding seems like a desk job, and while I don't mind that for a few hours, I need to be doing different things in my day. So thanks for all the info. More to think about for sure.
I’m learning Python by myself. I’m 43 years old and my bones aren’t strong enough for construct sites anymore. I want a job working remotely and I heard all these great things about Python and how it’s such an easy to use language etc. Im kind of disheartened now with watching some of these videos saying how difficult Coding is. I’d like to be able create my own games for the play store and earn my own income. Do you think that would work?
im a programmer from legacy to modern web app. there is always a fight between project manager and programmer because, the project manager is always racing for the devs to finish their work. and the devs always lack the manpower and the project manager doesn't understand the technology being used in development. that is why company become so strict on selecting project manager which prefer from development also. its better for no affinity in coding to avoid programming roles. its super hard reading codes of ur multiple co-workers just to make amendment or addendum on the system. bad luck if the existing code and database design is not normalized.

Hey I am not sure I agree with your assertion regarding QA. Alot of QAs/SDETs are expected to know how to code now and to automate much of the test scripts.
Hey, fellow software engineer/youtuber here :) I have been looking for other women engineers on youtube and I found your channel. Your content is great, I love the topics you cover! I have just started growing my channel and yours is definitely one to look up to!
Fantastic content as always. I’d agree with Sean Edwards in that a lot of businesses (not all though which is the confusing thing) require more coding now and are expected to write automated tests. I do feel that a really good business would offer support from the software engineers if people within QA don’t have experience coding to aid with their development though. I’ve seen quite a few success stories of people using QA as a way of getting them into the position of Software Engineer though if that’s something that interests you! It’s such a good idea though to try and give people more information about how they can get into tech through non-traditional routes.

Systems Engineer, System Administration, Network Engineer, Network Admin, Help Desk. All really good jobs, that don't require coding.
Is that in order from entry to senior positions

Help desk is NOT A GOOD job. Don't do that to these people. 🤣 Others I am inclined to agree.
