Though I wasn't active online I often read your messages and comments and they truly helped me during some really dark days. I am excited to be back and plan to upload regularly. I can't wait to create here again!

Then life hit her and Shay's struggle with alcohilism comes and makes that unrealistic dream die. That's a good thing for her. She is maturing.

This was honestly very depressing to watch. Yes, some dreams are just too unrealistic and life just doesn't happen the way you want it to. BUT, being with someone who loves you and doesn't hurt you, loves you, and respects you, is not unrealistic. It isn't an impossible dream. You don't have to accept a shitty partner. It might be difficult for Collete to leave Shay financially as well. They have FIVE kids. That's a lot of kids to take care of by a single mother.
Their family being mormon also might have a lot to do with why she won't leave Shay. Divorce is frowned upon. The girls are also told at a young age that they're meant to grow up, find a nice mormon man, have a ton of his babies, and that's about it.
Divorce isn't necessarily frowned upon, but when they get married they have the idea of "sealing" yourself--your soul--to the other's. You're sealed together and are bound to the afterlife together along with your family. The family unit and marriage is a big thing with mormons. Working through tests and troubles in marriage comes along with that. Never come across anyone that would actively discourage her or anyone from getting a divorce, especially if the relationship is abusive.
Yeah as with a lot of religions divorce is frowned upon but when your spouse cheats that's not ok . Why do people cheat ? I don't know but their is never a valid reason. I don't think that's what she means by letting her dream go. Everyone has the dream of a perfect life, including her. When life doesn't go perfectly, you don't give up.
That being said, I don't know why any spouse would ever cheat on the person they committed themselves to in marriage that they love. How can anyone be so cruel? If you want to be with someone else, get a divorce, and end it. Don't sneak around behind someones back - it will tear people apart when they find out.
Here's my take. I've been in a relationship with a man who cheated. I was early 20s, I forgave him and stayed in a relationship with him. It. Was. Torture. I was constantly paranoid that he was cheating all the time. It took time away from things that I wanted to do, because I was afraid to leave him alone. I didn't feel free until I finally put my foot down and LEFT. GUESS WHAT? he got another girlfriend, AND HE CHEATED ON HER TOO. SURPRISE! I know that Shay was exposed, I saw what he said, and I wonder...how many times did he do this before, before he was exposed? Caught? If she chooses to stay with him, she has to let go of ALL PREVIOUS EXPLOITS. I couldn't. I had to leave. I pray for her to have clarity.

She was able to give birth to several children and be strong and raise them to be kind and thoughtful individuals. She also knows how to be goofy and laugh and have fun. You're off your rocker if you think she's dumb.

Hello Colette. My name is Sophia and I am fourteen years old. Recently my parents had split up. My father, who I love dearly, unfortunately was not the best husband towards my mother. He was manipulative and a cheater. Even though he did all these things, I still find ways to find the good and I struggle with how I could not resent him. However, though I still tend to find love towards him, I look at my mom and see strength. My mother left him. No matter how hard she wanted things to work out, no matter how much therapy sessions and books she read about fixing her marriage, it just couldn't happen. She stayed with my father for years, for her children, till eventually she realized something. She realized that she loved her kids more than anything, and that staying with a man who disrespected her wasn't setting a good example. She wanted to be strong for us, and show us what an unhealthy relationship was, and how to leave it. She wanted to show me, she could make it on her own. So thats what she did. I am so thankful for my mom and what she did. It hurts me to see you like this, because my family has been through it. I hope you can realize what example you are setting for your children and change for them. Show them that you're strong too, and through this video I can see that you are. Best of luck.

We will never know 100% how things are in her life but hearing her talk about letting her dream of a perfect marriage die was pretty sad. First, I wanna say you can forgive someone but also not forget. Forgiveness doesn't mean to stay in a situation that is bad for you. Now, I understand what you are trying to say about your dream. You are saying the perfection you expected in a partner isn't realistic, and that you need to let that part go in order to have a healthy relationship... BUT, I'm sorry, cheating doesn't correlate with that. That isn't a flaw in a partner or something that is a part of them that you need to learn to accept and love. That phrase is referencing imperfections in a partner, not a partner who blatantly disrespects you MANY times. I understand wanting to try and make it work for your kids, but I don't like that you are telling young people to let their dreams die of being in a wonderful- not saying perfect - but loyal and respectful relationship. And in some ways, blaming yourself for having unrealistic expectations.... not wanting a partner to cheat isn't unrealistic. I hope this all works out for your family and that I'm wrong, but you seem sad and it's sad to know you are giving up a dream of love, cause of a cheater, and thinking that is what you need to do to be in a relationship.
The question is: would you tell your daughters that same advice? Would you tell them to give up on a loyal, loving, respectful relationship with a man? And if the one you picked does cruel things to hurt you, would you tell them to just let that die and accept that cruelty?

I to am going through something like she is with shay.. and the answer to your question I would not tell my future daughter to let there dreams go because of a selfish man. never. she would deserve the world and so much more. your right she pretty much is saying because of shay she have to let her dream die. that's not right. he doesn't deserve that kind of power over her. she needs more time to accept and rethink everything that has happened. love is so blind at times and love can make you do things you don't want to do. her heart still loves him and honestly theres nothing anyone can do about that. she just needs time and to figure out how much she is really worth. so do I, I wish I could just walk away but its easier said than done.

I'm happy that you liked my message, because I really wanted to make a point, without being cruel. Love is VERY difficult. Add to that financial connection AND children, and it is almost impossible to see ever disconnecting from your partner. A part of you can't and a part of you doesn't even want to, so it is hard. A lot of people are being really mean and think it's so simple, so I didn't want my comment to come across as nasty, just kind-honesty. It's hard and a choice like that shouldn't be made overnight. AND when that choice is made, people should have everything in order for them. Not just jumping off a ledge.
I believe we need to accept flaws in our partners and the not-so-pretty parts of them. But when those flaw hurt you, whether emotionally, verbally, physically, it becomes more than an imperfection.
I think we all need to see how we treat ourselves and ask ourselves, is that how we would want our children to treat themselves? And if it's a no, then why do we feel we deserve less? Ya know?
Love is a beautiful thing we humans are privileged of feeling. A gift. But people forget that privileged feeling isn't just what you feel for another person; it's the love you feel for yourself that is a gift as well. And at some point, in order to reach that love and respect for yourself, you need draw a line in the sand. I'm not saying to walk away the moment you get hurt, but when you feel that it's changing who you are, then you need to.
The only person that will protect you from pain and give you strength, is yourself. People need to be their own shield and sword. They're worth it; you're worth it.
I hope your life works out the way you want, whether that is with the person you are with now, or not. Just make sure you're your own protector. And are as happy as you can be. You deserve it. Good luck to you ♥️

I'm pretty sure her point was it's dead no matter what. Even if she left Shay, fell in love and met the best man ever, she'd still have to divorce her first love, split her kids between two houses, break their hearts, etc. So I think regardless of what she decided to do she meant her dream of having a perfect life with a faithful husband and happy kids can never be. No matter what! And that's ok, as she said. But don't for one second think if she found someone else that would be "her dream".... Her dream wasn't obviously to have to publicly divorce a man who relapsed on alcohol and started trying to bang cam girls (No hate honestly, it'll take a while for all us to trust him, but I can't judge him from an experience I'm on the outside of) nor was it to be cheated on and stay with the man and work it out. And I have someone now who is my dream. I've been codependent, I've been terrified, I didn't even have my own car, and I walked away. I can't support you letting people think it's "Ok" to let their dream of a perfect marriage die when the imperfection you are referring to is cheating. That is not ever ok. I agree no marriage is perfect there are fights and disagreements, money troubles and the difficulty of raising children. But cheating is not something you should allow!

Marriage is fucking hard, and I 100% support her decision to save her marriage. Just because this happened and she chose to stay with him DOES NOT make her weak. So many people can say "wow she really deserves better" and "you can do so much better, you don't need him" and as much as she might want to listen to those people if DEEP IN HER SOUL shay and their marriage is her happiness, if she leaves she might not even be truly full filled and that does not in any way make her weak. I was always concerned about the dynamic of their relationship, and it's such a weight off to know that she's trying to exist as her own person, without the influence of her marriage so much. I never comment on videos, but this really affected me. I've been following this family since I was 16 (I'm now 24) and Collette's strength and courage really touched and inspired me. You can tell that she is still hurting but it takes a lot of guts to stand up to your issues and not let them define you. I feel like I would have handled her situation in a very different manner which only inspires me more! I cannot condone Shay's actions and to be honest, I'm not sure I can be as accepting as some and welcome him back into my life (as weird as that sounds, I feel like I grew up with him) but I am so happy to have Collette back as a positive role model - she's the best XXX

My grandparents provided a similar example for me and it effected me a lot. They’re still together and there’s still no REAL respect there. He gets away with everything because yeah they fight about that but she’d never leave, she “accepts” him. I accepted a lot of disrespect growing up and that same grandfather had the nerve to ask me why. He has no awareness of his behavior and never will because he never had to. And hearing her “accept it” with everything’s that happen... I can’t help but worry. I hope I’m wrong for her and her kids’ sake but this is hard to watch.

When I was 3 or 4 my parents got divorced. She disnt like my dad bc he was doing certain things that she promised her self she wouldnt stay with men if it happened. My family is happy now, my dad has found love, my mom has found love ,life is fine. Just for everybody to know, its ok if you need a break, its ok if you need to get a person out of your life. It does take time. I just wanted to say that.

Wishing you all the best. Your right life isn't perfect. I imagine as a mother of 5 and a husband struggling with alcoholism it's not easy to find time to work on yourself. But you are and you truly deserve all the happiness you can give to yourself. It's easiest to blame and point fingers but not easy to accept what is. This will all hopefully be just a big bump in the road and hopefully it smooths a bit for a breather soon. There will always be big bumps and little bumps, enjoy the breaks in between, take in the moments of simple bliss.
