I got one of these calls, guy with a thick Indian ascent said his name was Toney Gonzalez and was calling from the U.S grant department and I qualified for a $9,000,000 grant, I started laughing uncontrollably he asked me why I was laughing I told him because I know Danm well the government isn’t just handing out money.

For someone who works in bank fraud and deal with the aftermath of these parasites thank you
schouvler15 What is it like dealing with stuff like this on the bank's end? Just curious.
Basically it depends on 2 things, how much is the fraud worth an whos fault it is.
First the bank has to decide if its worth investigating and trying to recover, for example a lot of these scams are for like $50 or less from some pos overseas. Think about it the bank has to pay a teller or phone rep $15 an hour to file the case, the investigators $20 an hour and possible a recovery agent. Theyre not going to bother with all that to get back a small amount of money, most cases they just pay you and call it a loss. Sadly thats why these parasites exist.
Second you’re protected and the bank is liable for fraud or abusive practices, NOT stupidity. For example if you write your pin on your debit card, youd be shocked how often it happens, the bank ISNT required to pay that. So it comes down to is it worth it to keep your business. Same goes for accepting those free trial offers without canceling the subscription for example.
To avoid all this just dont give your information to someone who calls you and instead find their companies direct number or ignore it, change your cards once a year, monitor your activity or statements, and if it sounds too good to be true its probably a scam. When in doubt call your bank immediately!
Thats the worst part about these people they are overseas so they hide from most legal action and exploit desperate people.
Micheal i don’t understand how racism has absolutely anything to do with what i posted. Your post seems quite idiotic to me, to be blunt. My comments of criminals overseas committing these crimes is nothing more than fact and has nothing to do with race and everything to do with jurisdiction. Its no different then an American committing crimes online against a business in another country, that company would have little recourse just as we do here. Which is why things like these phone calls happen.

I cant really give advice without knowing specifics mainly what the bank knows, id take what you have to your local bank and be honest with them about what happened. Sounds like some type of kiting scam, as in they give you checks to cash then you send them money.
