Great Splitter setup. I have a cheap, slow, tractor hydraulic driven splitter (tractor supply). I am more of chainsaw guy... I have 8 different Stihl saws. 36" down to 8". I shepherd our family farm in MS. About 3oo acrs. I live in a 3 bdrm house built in 1815 from hand cut, heart pine, square logs. The house has a single chimney with 2 fireplaces. That's the only heat I have. So... firewood is comfort and life in the coldest months of MS weather. Love the video! Oh... I'm 60 and still doing it all. ;) Approx. 20% of what I consume I harvest or cultivate. Sad to see all the basics being sidelined in the US these days.

hi there great to hear from all and you . i will be 72 next month and stopped gardening. but a real small spot us to plant 5 acres + produce , built the splitter over 50 years ago and it turned out to be a good one by luck , most people never heard of one way back then , a cord was 100 sold about 1 a week as a side thing , back then got paid 1.00 a hour no over time , now days the kids say we don't need farmers cause you can get want you want at the store . glad you stopped in ,thank you john

GREAT JOB, JOHN. DONT LET THOSE PRE-MADONNA FIREWOOD MAKERS RUFFLE YOUR FEATHERS. YOU SHOW THE HEART OF A WARRIOR, SHOWING THE WHOLE PROCESS OF THE HARVEST. NOT DELIVERED TIMBER, RUNNING THROUGH AN AUTOMATED MACHINE.

Nice to see you John. As you know I am 72 years old and feelin’ good ! I am still cutting, splitting, curing and selling my firewood wood all alone. I have a big ‘home built’ hydraulic splitter. I gave my big 4x4 Ford loader to my son. I still have my little 8n Ford loader with a new 6’ bucket ( haven’t used it though in two years). I still have not got to freeing up the clutch on my circle saw mill’s Allis Chalmers wd45 engine yet. There’s more money in just doing firewood .......Your friend Gary in Michigan (Woody’s Sawmill & Firewood ).

Nice system John. I've always admired the way you minimize handling and also believe that a single wedge splitter does a better job without creating a bunch of scrap (lets you read the grain on the twisted stuff too). You have prepared well for working into the golden years.

I see you're old days of development, and most efficient use of time, equipment, and effort in competition wood splitting is peeking its head back out again.
I'm not sure how many people know of your history of building splitting equipment, and in the production side of this.
Are about the big machines that Jeffrey, and yourself have built over the years.
It's been a while since you shown the machine at Jeffrey's house.
Maybe that would explain to people, why you take an interest in what others are doing on their channels.
Which would also give them insight as to why your equipment, and method of you feel is superior to that of the new comers to firewood industry.

John - Great name you have (mine is also John). My hat's off to you with that impressive wood splitting and stacking - don't think I would have lasted that long or been that fast.
I have no idea who's the fastest and don't know that it matters that much. What I do know, being an old guy myself, is that splitting and stacking that amount of wood in the time you did it was no simple task ... it is real man's work. Let someone else worry about who's fastest and you just keep doing what you do and enjoy knowing you can still do it at your age ... something some of those young guys will just have to wait until they get that old to see if they can even still split wood.

Might I suggest, that you stop worrying yourself about speed. Once you pass the seventy mark, speed should no longer be a top priority, and if the younger bucks want to go down that road, then let em.Anybody, with one ounce of common sense, can see that you know this splitting job, inside out, and you dont need to prove yourself, on a daily basis. It wont matter, one jot, how fast you were at wood splitting, come the day of your funeral,or how many piles of nice burning wood,is left out in the yard..All I am trying to say,in a nice way,is to accept that nobody expects a man in his seventies, like you, [and me] to bomb along, trying to break records, which will bring that fate full day ever closer than it already is.The other aspect,is that most folk, prefer to watch a nice leisurely video, not one of faster,faster,faster..Slow down a bit, live longer, enjoy what is left, before it passes you by........Denis Cathcart

Started at 2.20 mark, and stopped with 2.10 left out if 23.59 total time of video.
Breaks down to about 19 minutes 30 seconds total time.
Have you mentioned exactly how long, how many different splitters you've built, or been part of the build of different machines since the 70's Mr John.
That might give everyone more insight as to why you take interest in the other channels methods and devices they're using compared to what you know that you're capable of doing by yourself with your old machine.
Are maybe shown them the big production splitter that's at Jeffrey's house.
Are the hours you've spent at the wood lot cutting up trees into blocks for other people to split.
May very well explain to thses folks the reason for your interest into what the firewood channels are doing, and they're claims that they have the best devices for splitting firewood these days.
Might help them to comprehend why you get so fired up about the claims they're making about what they think is the best of the industries machines.
Have a great day Mr John
