It's a shame she couldn't see her version of "Son Of A Preacher Man" was the definitive version. As much as I love Aretha, she doesn't come close. As for her version of "A House Is Not A Home', I'm flabbergasted. Breathtaking!
loved the fact she'd get her hands on those Carole demos -- she knew a winner when she saw it and just knew she could make a cover all her own sound! Ya just gotta love Dusty -- she was truly a legend and accept no substitutes!
She always strived for pefection and never thought she had reached it! Well Dusty YOU DID... and wherever you are now, I hope somehow you realise this!
There will never be another DUSTY! THE SONGS SHE SINGS AND THE WAY SHE SINGS THEM CANNOT BE REPLICATED! IT'S HER OWN PERSONAL TOUCH ON THE SONGS SHE SINGS THAT MAKES THEM SO GOOD! EVEN BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL SINGER! THATS WHY THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE LIKE DUSTY EVER AGAIN!! DUSTY was the cream of the crop and every one knew it! Her music will keep her with us for a long long time! Rip beautiful lady! I love you.
I wish more time had been devoted to Dusty in Memphis - Son of A Preacher Man is only one of the tacks on that beautiful album, surely her best ever work
Sorry Dionne ( we like you too! ) but I really wish Burt Bacharach could have given Dusty all of his songs exclusively. I guess Dusty covered most of them eventually, but it wouldve given her even more greatly earned success!
Has there been a single female singer to come near her in the last 20 years or so? I doubt it.... if you add in the quality of the songs then almost certainly nothing to match. And that is not a 'everything was better in my day' grumble, cause i wasnt even born then. Music was simply better then. Wonderful stuff.
The recent death of Irene Cara ...Fame, Flashdance etc. reminds me that Dusty was also considered by some in The music industry to be "difficult" or was it just misogony? But Dusty was a perfectionist and thus was considered "diffiicult" 😉 whereas Irene was forced to sue her record company for money they owed her! Lovely business ! And that chewed up 10 years of her successful career in legal mess . Such a shame for both talented ladies! Nevertheless , we will always remember their wonderful music !!😘😘(and no-one remembers those stupid misogonist record execs. !😉) ps. can you imagine those two great gals in a duet?!😃
She sang everything -- with impeccable instinct and brilliant musicality
Unfortunately she died so earlt

Their aren't enough superlatives in the English language to describe Dusty Springfield in totality!!!!
Ditto jason smith

No one can match the soul of her sound. She is the real queen of soul.
We have to say thanks to mister bacarach because he was one of those who better could show up her natural singing talent
Why would she prefer Aretha's version????? Insecure or nice? Either way that's what makes her so lovable.

@jilhal24 Aretha is so overrated...a horrible technical singer...while La Springfield was the very best!
I like them
.they way of singing were pretty different
I like both
House is not a home is breathtaking she gave her heart and soul to everything
I was unaware of the hits she had, wow
I admire she could protect her privacy

What a shame she never sang with monique rabaraona and gorgeous stunning ronnie spector
She was one of that singers who had perfect singing voices
oh yeah -- I can feel how lonely that house is without someone to share it with! Is that Burt Bacarat on piano and singing?
