      Kristopher Shafer I agree Phil Collins is an awesome singer

    • @BrandonWaters99
      @BrandonWaters99 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Kristopher Shafer I do enjoy a few of Phil Collins's songs as well. The main issue is that the first movie has a habit of putting Phil Collins songs over scenes that should have an emotional impact. Just watch the scene from "Brother Bear" where Kenai is admitting he killed Koda's mother. Then watch the deleted scene, without Phil Collins's song. That's the main issue Doug has with his music.

      Well, since he's not really a Disney fan and has admitted as much himself, you kinda have to take it with a grain of salt. Disney knows what their fans like and makes their films for that audience first and foremost, so these reviews are basically looking at them from the perspective of an average filmgoer who isn't a fan. In some cases, his insights are right on the money (The Return Of Jafar) but in other cases he fails to see the appeal of films that Disney fans generally really like (The Lion King 1 1/2). I keep coming back because it's interesting to hear when he discovers something that he didn't know was good but any Disney fan could have told him.

      I do too. Brother Bear had such a good message for bears/animals too. Sure Bears are powerful, dangerous animals, but like all wild animals, they still have a society. Behavior that is accepted among the other Bears, and in a sense, do have families... like the Wolves and the Wolf Pack. (always holding the safety of the Pack to the most importance, even if it means leaving behind vulnerable members)

      I enjoyed the first movie to. Though I do agree with Doug that the saddest part did not need a song over it. It would have had more impact if it was just instrumental. Anyway.... I have mixed feelings on the sequel. I don't hate it like everyone else. Like Doug I think the animation was great, and while the story was nothing new... its not bad either. Its just been done before. I guess I would call it ok. There's a song in it I like, "It Will Be Me", that's sad but I thought was beautiful. I liked the music in general. Again nothing super amazing but it was nice. I guess that's why I feel conflicted. Everyone seems to have so much hate for this, but I think it was ok. I don't mind watching it for its music and animation and again, its a decent enough if overused story. For a direct to DVD sequel its pretty much what I was expecting. I guess I'm the only one who can stand it. To each their own and all that.

      Koda is nowhere nowhere near as bad as Mushu was in Mulan 2. Yes, he gets upset but he doesn’t actively sabotage the rekindling relationship and the ticking clock element of the Equinox never comes into harsh focus like a race against time, so his behaviour doesn’t impact the journey in a negative way. He hears a conversation out of context and like the kid he is, runs away because he can’t process what it means for him and his relationship with Kenai. He even has an independent face heel turn and tries to make Kenai happy even if it means he has to be alone again.

    I really loved how Koda was so scared he'd lose Kenia. And the part where he saves him and instead of getting anger at and scolding him Kenia comforts him. "What would have I done if I'd lost you." I just love that line of diolouge so much.
    He could have so easily have yelled and blamed Koda for what happened but he doesn't.
    I definitely think the really showed the brotherly love better in this one than the first brother bear.

    • @jbcatz5
      @jbcatz5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And Koda could have done a lot worse. Trigger Kenai’s most unpleasant qualities, steal the amulet, make things horrible for Nita etc, but instead of pulling a Mushu and being the bad guy he gets upset runs off, because he’s a kid who’s afraid of losing his big brother.

    Yeah, I remember when I first saw this movie, when I see a bad movie I tend to rewrite it in my head, and the first thing I thought I'd scrap would be the bickering between the girl and Kenai. I thought it would've been much more interesting to have them reconnect right away and instead maybe have the drama come from the idea that they can't be together, like have Kenai briefly considering finding a way to be human again but immediately ditching that idea because of his duty to, and bond with Koda. Maybe even have Koda like her a lot and even give him a little character growth in a talk with Kenai giving his blessing for him to try to be human again.The girl would be thinking about this other guy she's supposed to marry (if I remember right, wasn't it also a political marriage?) so her feelings of duty to her people could be a factor. Also would've totally gotten rid of the bear hunt.

    You know, when I saw this movie for the first time, I was actually pretty on board with the premise. I wasn't sure if it was going to be as cliched as I knew it would be at the back of my mind and I saw a lot of potential starting out, going through the film. I thought it could be an interesting chance for a Disney movie to show how love isn't something predestined by past experiences and that people change, quite literally in Kenai's case, so they don't always end up together for good reasons. Watching the film, I saw an opportunity to show how love can still exist between two people who don't necessarily belong together, but that's okay.
    But we didn't get that story. We got a cliche fest instead. I knew it was coming, but I held on to the shred of hope that the story wouldn't get wasted. It did. It sucks.

    The first Brother Bear is one of my favorites, and I thought this second one was pretty enjoyable too. They are most definitely cliche, but I always felt in a way that was done pretty well, or at least well enough to make them enjoyable. I think maybe the worse thing about Brother Bear 2 is that, once again, it really had no purpose being made. Even so, I think that fact also works in its favor. With so many sequel movies that have no reason to be made and their terribleness showing just why, I feel Brother Bear 2 shines well despite its unnecessary existence.

      The usual plural of moose is moose; compare the names of many animals, such as deer and fish, which are also invariant. Other plurals are rare and nonstandard: mooses (with the usual English plural-forming suffix -s), meese (jocularly formed by analogy to goose → geese).
