      I used to hate Berube because I hated the Flyers.....I Miss Tony Twist. I remember when Keenan was coach. Tony Twist one punch KOed Shawn Antoski. Then Twist kept going over to Eric Lindros & Lindros wouldn't fight....

      @@2112Fade2Black i hope u can answer this question. Is hockey and the blues in STL close to as popular as the Cards and baseball, or is baseball way more popular in STL than hockey? thx

    • @2112Fade2Black
      @2112Fade2Black 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Bd Brown Because at that time. Lindros didn't have any concussion problems. He was a big strong guy 6'4 240 and liked to hit. Mike Keenan was the Blues coach and Keenan wanted Twist to fight Lindros. It's been so long ago but from my memory. I think Lindros had hit a Blues player that Keenan thought was a cheap shot. In a PC after the game they asked Keenan about it and he said he sent out Twist to pay Lindros a little visit because of the hit...But Twist wasn't the kind of player like the old Flyers Schultz or Bob Kelly that would just attack another player. Twist wouldn't just start a fight with anyone who didn't wanna fight. Twist was a Goon but he only wanted to fight other Goons. I think he fought Probert 5 times...

    Towards the end of this interview you can see the juices starting to flow and The Chief's eyes start to light up when talking about 5 on 5 line brawl stuations. For a moment, he was starting to glow with excitement again....like his pilot just got lit and he was back in enforcer mode ..then he settled down and regained his composure as Coach Berube..I loved that!

    Last night against the Wild, Craig Berube coached his 500th NHL game, becoming one of only six men in NHL history to both coach 500 or more games and play in 1,000 or more. Fittingly, Ric Flair read the starting lineup for the Blues in the locker room -- and a brawl broke out during the game. Congrats, Chief!

    Is it just me, or do a lot of former enforcers or gritty forwards make good head coach material? Let's see, assistant coach Steve Ott was pretty gritty during his playing days. Former Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant was quite the scrapper. Bob Boughner of the Sharks fought Berube a couple of times throughout their careers. Even guys like Rod Brind'Amour (Hurricanes), Todd Reirden (Capitals) and Rick Tocchet (Coyotes) were known to drop the gloves. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

  • @kingbee48185
    @kingbee48185 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    He was an enforcer, but had a great deal of class. Never saw him use his stick, give a sucker punch or cheap shot, and he held his own with Bob Probert 3 out of 4 times, got the better of him at least once. Wished he had been a red wing and had a chance to win a cup. But I don't agree that Bettman made the game better by hyper regulating it and cutting down on fighting. The fans love it. We don't want to see anyone get hurt, but the spectacle of 2 gladiators engaged in a fight sold tickets. At least here in Detroit.

    I know Berube was using it as an example, but it wasnt just Gretzky having guys for protection. Every team during that time had a guy, or guys, who were there for that reason and every captain was heavily protected back in the day. He's kind of right probably the problem with watching hockey in the ,70's, 80's, and 90's like I did was it was super overkill it would take like 45 minutes to calm down the entire bench clearing players fighting at once. Sometimes the guys today are a little to sissy boyish but probably health wise it's better. I could be wrong but maybe be just a tad bit more fights would be cool, but for the most part it's probably better for less brain damage and what not.

Fighting will always have a place in hockey, but you don't go on the ice just to beat the shit out of somebody every night. Players change, coaches change.
