Chief has some great stories, so happy he’s in Toronto now
Great enforcer and fighter and to tell you as an Islander fan back then, i really respected his sportsmanship. When the fight was over it was over, no nonsense on way to penalty box. I knew he respected most of his opponents. I SAW HIM OUT ON HIS FEET TWICE AND STILL FIGHTING.....TOUGH DOESN'T DO HIM JUSTICE.
Love the Chief
Old school guy. Way better than he says and was a reason his teammates played with an edge
I loved Berube in his first Flyers stint.
Chief!!!! Happy for him winning a cup.
Miss those old NHL days....nothing like them.
The Chief could really throw em.
I moved to Burnaby when Craig played in New West and can tell you that he used to put up points and PIMs in junior. The fans loved him.
Hahaha, I remember that tough guy competition in Williams Lake. Craig was a legend! All the guys from our boxing club entered the competition under pseudonym names hahaha...because you weren't supposed to enter if you had any formal combat training.
In Craig's first BCABA fight, he easily beat Gary Circo, who was a 165 lb golden glove from Prince George. That was epic. I also remember Craig being a very athletic baseball player, with a long list of advanced pitches. He also made a big impression on the ladies in WL...you're a legend Chief!
We need a chief and cote back out there now lol
Awesome!
Loved the Greg Smyth stories! 😂 Wish there was footage of Berube actually laughing when Smyth terrorized his team! Lmao
I actually met Berube once in 2000 when he was playing the Islanders. I was doing late night valet at the hotel next to the Coliseum and walked up to him and told him he’s great. He at first looked like he was getting ready to fight me lol
Chief was one tough customer..
He could throw them very fast!
John Van Horlick played for the Chatlotte Checkers in the Eastern Hockey League.
And Van Horlick was a bad man in Charlotte. He beat up Dave Schultz when The Hammer was with the Salem Rebels. No tougher league than the ol’ EHL. The 70-71 and 71-72 Charlotte Checkers are arguably the toughest team ever. I’ll talk to Van Horlick this October in Charlotte at the Checkers reunion.

Yes.
The Charlotte Checkers of those years were very good and very tough.
I was a LI Duck fan so I would only see the Checkers play once a year but would follow the Checkers stats in Hockey News. Almost all their top players had 150-200 penalty minutes.
My favorite former Duck, Hal Willis, played for Charlotte those years. He was a 300 penalty minute defenseman.
The Checkers were so good and so tough they were able to "loan" the Ducks Blaine Rydman, who became the Duck policeman and later played in the WHA.(He had 5 or 6 fights with Blake Ball.)

I spoke to Norm Ryder one night about the old EHL. Ryder played for the Ducks and later for Nashville. He told me Don Perry was the toughest guy he ever played against in the EHL.
I wonder who Van Horlick thinks was the toughest?
Why the Flyers EVER let him go will always be beyond me
Baby players.
LOVED THIS...Keep it up boys!
As a Flyers fan from back in the 70s and 80s, the funniest part of this story is that Greg Smyth couldn't fight .... at all. I had high hopes when the Flyers drafted him, but he was a punching bag. Very seldom won any fights.
Ugh wish he was our coach. Put him back out there with Riles as his assistant lol
Love this
Don’t worry about it Chief a biker kicked me in the nuts also. It happens
Pumped up after that lmao
Good old Western League boy making us look good
CHIIIIEEEEFF
Smyth
Warriors and a legend.
These are the guys that made hockey hockey. Ow it’s a bra and pantie league
he's doesn't speak like he got punched 1000 times lol
When men were men
Why do hockey players always tell the best stories out of any other sport?
Chieeeeeffff……
