Yeah, this all seems to be based on a death certificate posted by a volunteer to the Find a Grave website.
The death certificate lists Beryl Christie as a 39 year old "female spinster."
Kamala's grandmother, Beryl Harris was married and had at least one child.
Also, the death certificate doesn't match the birth certificate posted to the same page. According to the birth certificate, Kamala's grandmother was born Beril Magdeline Finegan and would've been 42 at the time of Beryl Christie's death, not 39. Her name at death would've been "Beril Magdeline Finegan Christie Harris."
I can understand getting the spelling of Beryl's name wrong and not listing her middle name or any surnames prior to her becoming Mrs. Harris. But it doesn't make sense that a married woman named Beryl Harris would be listed on her death certificate as a spinster named Beryl Christie.
Kamala's father writes in an article he published in 2018 that Beryl's mom's ancestry was unknown to him. He wrote that Iris (Beryl's mom) was born with the last name "Finegan." But the birth certificate on Find a Grave lists her name as "Iris Finegan, formerly Allen" giving birth to "Beril Finegan." No father is listed on Beril's birth certificate. (It's unclear if they customarily listed fathers or just the mothers only.)s
Kamala's father refers to his maternal grandfather (Iris's husband, and Beryl's presumed father) as "Mr. Christie." He doesn't mention a first name, and it's unclear if he knows it. He said Iris had 8 children. It's possible Mr. Christie was Iris's second husband and Finegan was her first.
Neither Kamala nor her father wrote anything (that I've found) about her grandmother Beryl's death. My guess is that she died much later than 1960 - probably in the 1980s or later, after Kamala was grown up.
I think the Find a Grave volunteer found this death certificate, found a birth certificate that roughly matched up, and posted Kamala's photo of her grandmother, assuming that all 3 referred to the same person.
This could be 2 or 3 different people for all we know. We know Kamala says the photo is of her grandmother Beryl. We don't know (or at least I don't) if the birth certificate is actually hers, and it really doesn't seem like the death certificate is.

I went to a very prestigious Catholic private high school with Kamala's sister in Oakland, Ca. I was surprised by some of the things Kamala was saying from the beginning....like how she was a poor black child who needed to be bussed to better schools. The districts in our area changed the boundary lines for schools when we were young, so many children had to take the bus because your elementary school could be a lot further away than walking distance. Anyway, she was never a poor child in a poor neighborhood. You don't have a parent who is a professor at Stanford and a mother who is a cancer researcher without being middle to upper-middle class. Interestingly, she seems to have recently changed her story to having a "middle class" upbringing. I would have labeled them as very upper middle class based on what I knew of her sister, Catholic private school and Stanford University are very expensive.

Yeah, this all seems to be based on a death certificate posted by a volunteer to the Find a Grave website.
The death certificate lists Beryl Christie as a 39 year old "female spinster."
Kamala's grandmother, Beryl Harris was married and had at least one child.
Also, the death certificate doesn't match the birth certificate posted to the same page. According to the birth certificate, Kamala's grandmother was born Beril Magdeline Finegan and would've been 42 at the time of Beryl Christie's death, not 39. Her name at death would've been "Beril Magdeline Finegan Christie Harris."
I can understand getting the spelling of Beryl's name wrong and not listing her middle name or any surnames prior to her becoming Mrs. Harris. But it doesn't make sense that a married woman named Beryl Harris would be listed on her death certificate as a spinster named Beryl Christie.
Kamala's father writes in an article he published in 2018 that Beryl's mom's ancestry was unknown to him. He wrote that Iris (Beryl's mom) was born with the last name "Finegan." But the birth certificate on Find a Grave lists her name as "Iris Finegan, formerly Allen" giving birth to "Beril Finegan." No father is listed on Beril's birth certificate. (It's unclear if they customarily listed fathers or just the mothers only.)s
Kamala's father refers to his maternal grandfather (Iris's husband, and Beryl's presumed father) as "Mr. Christie." He doesn't mention a first name, and it's unclear if he knows it. He said Iris had 8 children. It's possible Mr. Christie was Iris's second husband and Finegan was her first.
Neither Kamala nor her father wrote anything (that I've found) about her grandmother Beryl's death. My guess is that she died much later than 1960 - probably in the 1980s or later, after Kamala was grown up.
I think the Find a Grave volunteer found this death certificate, found a birth certificate that roughly matched up, and posted Kamala's photo of her grandmother, assuming that all 3 referred to the same person.
This could be 2 or 3 different people for all we know. We know Kamala says the photo is of her grandmother Beryl. We don't know (or at least I don't) if the birth certificate is actually hers, and it really doesn't seem like the death certificate is.
This sounds like Obama part two.

The culture is different here. People who are half black typically been considered black. It’s been in very recent years that multiracial or “other” has been used to described biracial people.
Candace I'm Jamaican and it is very common for the older generation to call their parents Miss and Maas. Maas means Master and not Maasa. Lol its very important to understand cultural nuance instead of jumping to conclusions. Older generation Jamaica is very different from modern Jamaica.

TRADITIONALLY Jamaicans refer to our informal language as patois....but TECHNICALLY....I believe that a patois is a dialect of specifically the French language, while a Creole can be a dialect of either French/English.....it's been awhile so fact-check me on this...but I THINK that this was one of the reasons that Linguistics Professors at UWI started to refer to it as "Jamaican Creole", rather than "patois.

Not all Jamaicans speak patios. Some of us speak broken English and not plain patois. I would get punishment for speaking patios. I could not say certain words such as " nyam" which translates to " eat" in proper English . I am a born and raised Jamaican.

I recently researched some information on something else and I found it interesting as I used biology's Punnett squares for skin pigment.
It's not always accurate because it depends on other factors like blood type or ear shape etc.
But if you find a biologist to do a more in-depth examination, we might find answers in DNA as well.

Let me preface this by saying (i respect candace and i watch daily, I'm also a Jamaican/Canadian, so I'm not particularly invested in America and it's politics, i just love candace because she deals in common sense and logic ) however Jamaica is a very complex place...everyone in Jamaica has pet names, my grandma's name is couraline but shes affectionately known as miss jilly, even my grandfather who's name is Keith is known as "hero" also in Jamaica back then it was common for them to misspell names, im only 33 and my name is spelt differently on my Jamaican and Canadian documents than it is actually supposed to be spelled because my great grandaunt was the one who registered me lol, also most importantly back then you'd find a plethora of kids being raised by their grandparents and even many thinking their (grandparents) is their actual parent/s . In summary i do think candace is onto something here, however i just wanted to give everyone on here who might not be privy to Jamaica and it's a culture a little more background

I don't think the misspelling is the big issue. It's that the woman died before Kamala was born and the other dates don't make sense.

Hey Candace, I’m Jamaican, and I recently had my grandmother visit the U.S. a couple of weeks ago. As I was listening to you, it reminded me of something she said. She mentioned how she’s glad she didn’t sell any of her children. My grandmother is around 80 years old, and this was somewhat common in her time. I wouldn’t be surprised if these people bought a baby to replace the misfortunate loss.

Not everyone born in Jamaica is black, I met a white woman who left me speechless when she spoke to me and proceeded to tell me that she was born and raised in Jamaica and told me where in Jamaica she was born. This prompted a coworker to come in and speak with her because they were both from the same place as they were talking they easily slipped into their native language. Also judge Joe Brown has said that he has met her father and he doesn’t identify as black but Indian and Irish. I don’t know the truth of her but she is someone I don’t trust.
