Stock N80 Hilux vs MQ Triton at Watagans State Forest

- Not finding the track we were after really discouraged us to begin the day, however Watagans state forest is so big that even its most basic tracks had plenty to offer.
Overall were extremely impressed by the hilux but were interested to see what you guys think. Keep commenting, sharing and liking :)
- The Gray triton was equiped with 33inch Cooper mud terrains and a 2inch lift from dibinsons.
- N80 Hilux was only wearing 265/65/17 Bridgestone all terrain tyres which were in the best condition but apart from that it was stock standard.
- Black triton had 265/70/17 KO2 Bridgestone all terrains. Apart from that is stock.

Would highly recommend spending a night at the Watagans too, some awesome campsites and wicked tracks; we managed to drown a GQ Patrol with 4" lift & 35" tyres!

Another good video. Been following you lot from here in South Africa. You have come a long way in terms of your driving skills from when you first got the Triton. Well done. Some constructive feedback... try and improve on audio and keeping the sound levels the same throughout. Cant wait for the next video!

yes, they are really stock and it really shows what the standard vehicle is capable of
Just a thought, what about putting some additional weight in the back of the non-locked van?
Might be just enough in some of these cross axel situations...
Have you considered putting a Disel chip into a triton for that extra power for the traction control to give more power to the wheels might make a huge difference and fix the problem

Chris Nichol hey bud it's a suspension lift, size wise there's definitely more clearance and maybe more traction but being mud terrains could be more of an advantage but we haven't taken the time to actually compare so that's something we will address in upcoming vids, thanks for the comment !

Dead true with the lockers. I’m surprised to see how much the tc struggles with the triton. For some reason the Pajero tc is awesome but poor on the tritons. I wonder why that is though. Same company, why do they differ so much? Is it just software tuning or the ability of the brakes to hold the spinning wheel? Always baffles me and I’d love to find out why.
Maybe the Triton has rear drum brakes and the Pajero has discs, only reason I could think of
I'm with you Mike, re the tc being so bad in the Triton and not the ipajero.. I keep thinking it can't be that bad surely.

Does the grey Triton have super select 2? I've just bought a 2018 Triton and wondering if I'll have the same struggles as Gorge. My selector has 2WD, 4WD, 4WDcLH(Center difflock high) and 4WDcLL (Center difflock low). Love your stuff guys.

Hazelwood Homes yeh it has the same super select in it. the problem is the tritons traction control system and also the diff. it cant adjust quick enough and when it finally does, it cant send enough power to the wheel with grip. but hey its still a good all round ute. just struggles abit on uneven ground.

What size wheels are running on the black triton?
deep water crossings will be helped by placing a small tarp over the grill and tucked under the bonnet( no where, where the tires are ) .it will help with the bow wave, forcing the water under the ute and over the bonnet. not into the engine bay. I've been away from 4x4 for 30 years and looks like I might be seeing you in the scrub.

Hey buddy thanks for your comment, the grey triton runs 33 inch Hankook mud tyres, the black triton runs 265/75/17 bfg all terrains but that would be the biggest tyre we could fit on stock height, hope that helps!

That is Daniels point road and it ia closed with fines being sent out cameras are at both ends. That is the easy side of the track but do not try the mud holes with out a winch people have had vehicle's stuck there for longer then a week trying to get out

The Hilux can’t have “rear lockers” it can only have 1 at the rear.

New hilux revo 4WD system is better than Trition, If looking to The Trition tyre rotation during climbing The System is not able to transferring The traction to Non slip tyre.

Wow.... this guy.... he checks the depth of a creek by standing beside it and poking it with a stick before he sends his 40 to 50 thousand dollar car into it... LOL take ur shoes off and walk through so u can see if ur car is gonna sink or there is rox under the water .... it might onky feel a foot deep with a stick mate but when ur 2 tonne car goes in there it might sink down 2 foot into the mud and u will never get that car out... not in a driveable state anyway LOL silly people
