When I was young, the top & bottom tank were soldered on. You took your radiator to a repair shop. They would boil it out and for a few bucks, give you back a clean unit. Today it's cheaper to replace the unit.
Today, everything is either cheaper to replace or impossible to repair, forcing you to replace anyways. I don't like that. It takes the joy out of tinkering and fixing things to get them to work. That's why I'm still holding on to my 10 yr old carburettor bike. It has everything I can either fix for find small parts to replace. For ex, if only the dog lever is broken, I'd replace the lever not the whole f..ing transmission
here in the USA an aftermarket radiator is cheaper than the labor to clean like this.... and the engine will be just as dirty so that needs a cleaning too.
Probably true, but also state that most aftermarket radiators are crap and hop you get a year or 2 out of them. Depends on price of redoing a radiator. 😢😢

Just find a brand name unit and toss the old one out. I was using Spectra (brand) in my small fleet and never had a problem. 3-5 years was typical before junking the truck. (already 15 years old)

Who are these people? The radiator was empty of any/all liquids at the end. It was thoroughly cleaned and will have the correct fluids added when it's installed, NOT at the repair shop 🏪
In a lot of repair manuals they refer to coolant as water because back in the days radiators actually used water. Oh and by the way all your coolants are water based since you mix them with water 50-50.

Bud you can’t repair this type of radiator like that. Those aluminum tabs are going to fail when pressure builds up. This is more or a “watch me clean this dirty thing” than a real repair video.

Not really. Back in the 90s we had some repaired. But it soon became obvious that the aluminum tabs became weak and would not hold. Even with a new tank, new seal, there were leaks soon appearing. Costs just eventually did not justify it as opposed to just getting a new one.
Any water works. The reason fit rusting and going chalky is when the vehicle sits for extended periods of time. The metal will be stripped of ions and rust. Regardless of coolant, if your vehicle is going to sit then drain the coolant system. If it's one of those touchy vehicles with too many sensors and unnecessary seals then some lubricant additive (and i dont mean oil), run it, drain it. Idk, never failed me.
I used to Rod out plastic tank and copper brass tank radiators at a filthy run down radiator shop in Chicago back in the 80’s. Copper brass constructed radiators were already being quickly phased out due to rising copper prices. higher weight solder lead. Most customers were cheap skates that complained about the cost to perform a rod out 45.00
Well, it depends, i have done this with a 98 terios (no parts available in my area, and ebay options are just ridiculously expensive), but i used indian gasket in the seal. No leaks yet after two years.

В советские времена радиаторы были латунные. Я не раз чистил разными методами. На десять литров воды ,пол литра кислоты соляной. Заливаешь в радиатор. Естественно радиатор снимают с автомобиля. Заливаешь ету смесь И пол часа ждёшь. Потом сливаешь .етот раствор. Распаиваешь верхний бачок. И щупом Чистишь каждую трубочку. Как в видео. Заливали сыроватку. А что бы не было такого в радиаторе. Верхний патрубок снимаешь с радиатора Запихаешь в верхний вход радиатора чулок капроновый нижнюю часть .сантиметров Двадцать ,можно чуть больше. И надеваешь Край этого чулка на вход радиатора, а сверху патрубок.резиновый. хомутик затянул и все. Ездишь неделю ,может больше. . Следишь что бы не перегревался двигатель. А потом слил воду и вытягиваешь чулок. В котором вся эта субстанция. Я однажды еле вынул. И можно тот чулок ставить назад . Позже процедуру повторить. У меня такой чулок был постоянно. Ну правда в те времена тосол был дорогим удовольствием. В радиатор наливали обычную воду. А в эти радиаторы воды нельзя лить .
Обычно такое делают, вроде бы, индусы, все восстанавливают или из говна и палок и все у них замечательно ходит. У них нет денег на новое, но очень ловкие и откуда нужно руки для починки😁

When I was a kid ( 1970) there was a “ real” radiator shop at the corner and I watched them do this on a hundred of them a day and would solder the holes A real art form gone.
The shop probably was a filthy dump . Messy work customers don’t appreciate anything just want it for nothing. Chicago cops were the worst always looking for discounts.
I'll be having to do this in a few days, 1967 car thats sat unmoving in our garage since 1993. Still held water and looked clear when topped up, but I can guarantee there's crud in the bottom that needs flushing out.

Я такое делал собственными руками на моем mitsubishi outlander конечно же использовал герметик тот Что используют для клейки стёкол автомобиля и всё офигенно уже третий год ни грамма не пропустил
If the radiator looks like that, you'll be flushing the engine, as a minimum, and replacing the hoses. Nice work but symptomatic of much bigger issues. Unless this is a classic that you're restoring as original, it's just not worth the time.
Радиатор можно помыть не снимая бочка, слава богу, на сегодня есть масса химии спокойно отмоется и так . А если снять бачок обратно так не поставите. Будет течь и ещё масса головной боли. Мыть радиатор надо не разбирая радиатор.
При таком загрязнение, химия для промывки системы охлаждения специализированная, безполезна, только либо мех способ либо использовать какую нибудь ортофосфорную кислоту.
In the old days, we built a water filled tank, that raised and lowered the radiator. We desoldered the ends, cleaned or rodded the core, and resoldered the ends. Then pressure tested. The crimper ends, are great. And it's great to have money to spend, on a new radiator, and I would recommend having a few in stock, but you can save a lot of $ for your fleet, by maintenance, over replacement costs.
Лучше электролит 34 плотности промывать, с перва залил час простояла, три раза так повторял, на четвёртом оставил до утра, слил и три раза сполоснул водой, салон радиатора тоже самое, но зимой ездил в одном майке, попробуйте и убедитесь сами, но электролит на 27 плотности маловато для очистки. Не жезла не гвоздя удачи на дорогах.

Throw an enzyme dishwasher tablet in there while it’s still on the car and run it with the cap off until it’s warm. Also works a treat on large diesels after an oil cooler repair (which have had a failure and oil has entered the cooling system)
I have had little success rebuilding plastic tank rads but I have found that filling them with bicarb and letting them sit over night cleans out a whole world of garbage just be sure to flush it both ways starting with back flush.
I mean... I'm not an expert at this but just looking at the way that thing was constructed, clamped together with those super finnecky breakable tabs i can already tell that that wasn't supposed to be taken apart.
You can laser treat the rust off, but damn if radiators are like this, i hope somebody makes a version where you can basically split it apart to clean the inside more manually

This happens because of the situation of normal water, drinking water or tap water. It is preferable to put the engine coolant without adding water to avoid problems, this will last for a hundred years without problems.

It’s actually called a “radiator” but close enough. And instead of going through breaking the seal to clean out years of gunk, JUST BUY A NEW RADIATOR!! They’re pretty cheap actually!!
If the radiator is that dirty, that engine is where the time should be dealt cleaning. A new one is waaaaay cheaper, that style at least, than the time it took to do this.

И пол часа ждёшь.
Потом сливаешь .етот раствор. Распаиваешь
верхний бачок. И щупом
Чистишь каждую трубочку. Как в видео. Заливали сыроватку. А что бы не было такого в радиаторе.
Верхний патрубок снимаешь с радиатора
Запихаешь в верхний вход радиатора чулок капроновый нижнюю часть .сантиметров
Двадцать ,можно чуть больше. И надеваешь
Край этого чулка на вход радиатора, а сверху патрубок.резиновый. хомутик затянул и все. Ездишь неделю ,может
больше. . Следишь что бы не перегревался двигатель. А потом слил воду и вытягиваешь чулок. В котором вся эта субстанция. Я однажды еле вынул. И можно тот чулок ставить назад . Позже процедуру повторить. У меня такой чулок был постоянно.
Ну правда в те времена тосол был дорогим удовольствием.
В радиатор наливали обычную воду. А в эти радиаторы воды нельзя лить .

Обычно такое делают, вроде бы, индусы, все восстанавливают или из говна и палок и все у них замечательно ходит. У них нет денег на новое, но очень ловкие и откуда нужно руки для починки😁

В целом, можно и без разбора радиатора, смесь приготовить, вода - ортофосфорная кислота, залить и греть радиатор, такую грязь пробьёт.

Кока-Кола в помощь. Но это только если новые радиаторы в принципе отсутствуют в продаже. Тогда восстанавливать. А так - лучше купить. Они не дорогие.

When I was a kid ( 1970) there was a “ real” radiator shop at the corner and I watched them do this on a hundred of them a day and would solder the holes A real art form gone.
The shop probably was a filthy dump . Messy work customers don’t appreciate anything just want it for nothing. Chicago cops were the worst always looking for discounts.
Not entirely gone there's still a radiator shop in Richmond VA we use it still

Still held water and looked clear when topped up, but I can guarantee there's crud in the bottom that needs flushing out.

Here in the U.S. they just soak them in an acid bath, flush them and repair any leaks.

Алюминиевые зажимы одноразовые,на них появляются трещины, поэтому второй раз они уже не прижимают крышку как следует,ну если выхода нет то конечно годный совет 👍

Уже порядка десяти лет занимаюсь ремонтом радиаторов и бывало не один раз повторялась данная процедура- всё целое и не бежит. Главное чтобы руки из нужного места росли

Проходишь по пластиковой крышке по стыку термогерметиком , выжидаешь минут 15-20 стыкуешь и обжимаешь .
Стоит как новый 👍

If the radiator looks like that, you'll be flushing the engine, as a minimum, and replacing the hoses.
Nice work but symptomatic of much bigger issues. Unless this is a classic that you're restoring as original, it's just not worth the time.
Радиатор можно помыть не снимая бочка, слава богу, на сегодня есть масса химии спокойно отмоется и так . А если снять бачок обратно так не поставите. Будет течь и ещё масса головной боли. Мыть радиатор надо не разбирая радиатор.

Главное в обратную сторону промывать.
При таком загрязнение, химия для промывки системы охлаждения специализированная, безполезна, только либо мех способ либо использовать какую нибудь ортофосфорную кислоту.

In the old days, we built a water filled tank, that raised and lowered the radiator. We desoldered the ends, cleaned or rodded the core, and resoldered the ends. Then pressure tested. The crimper ends, are great. And it's great to have money to spend, on a new radiator, and I would recommend having a few in stock, but you can save a lot of $ for your fleet, by maintenance, over replacement costs.

Лучше электролит 34 плотности промывать, с перва залил час простояла, три раза так повторял, на четвёртом оставил до утра, слил и три раза сполоснул водой, салон радиатора тоже самое, но зимой ездил в одном майке, попробуйте и убедитесь сами, но электролит на 27 плотности маловато для очистки. Не жезла не гвоздя удачи на дорогах.

Throw an enzyme dishwasher tablet in there while it’s still on the car and run it with the cap off until it’s warm. Also works a treat on large diesels after an oil cooler repair (which have had a failure and oil has entered the cooling system)

I have had little success rebuilding plastic tank rads but I have found that filling them with bicarb and letting them sit over night cleans out a whole world of garbage just be sure to flush it both ways starting with back flush.

I had an after market radiator made totally out of aluminum including the end tanks ! Even with nearly pure antifreeze. It leaked after 10 years.

New radiator for a Honda Civic costs around 10k PKR. Whereas, this repair only cost 500 rupees which is basically 1.8 USD.
You can laser treat the rust off, but damn if radiators are like this, i hope somebody makes a version where you can basically split it apart to clean the inside more manually

Внутри ещё должны быть трубки с отверстиями их тоже надо вытаскивать. Они служат что бы равномерно распределять тепло по радиатору.

If the radiator is that dirty, that engine is where the time should be dealt cleaning. A new one is waaaaay cheaper, that style at least, than the time it took to do this.
