God this is upsetting, I feel sick. This sport can be so cruel
It's Jonas, Remco, Roglic and others fate this time dangerous dangerous sport🤕🤕🤕
my man WvA even as MVDP fanboy thats Just pure bad luck, first compromising everything for RVV and Pr then falling at E3 and now here
Yeah you could hear him crying on the ground before he got on the stretcher
@@OfficialTomsSkujinsFanClub I wish he wins PR and Mathieu RVV then everyobody is happy
update: He has broken bones so will miss everything fuck, hope the man can pull Something of in the Giro or Tour like Something really special
@@Lion-wd1pxhe may not even be fit by the Giro, something like 7 ribs, sternum, and collarbone fractured. Fingers crossed though, but it’s sounding really bad for him
@@OfficialTomsSkujinsFanClub That sob went straight to my soul. Rarely you hear a pro cry... But after you've sacrificed everything for months, to lose it like this, was heartbreaking.
@@existentialangst285 I doubt he'll be fit for the Tour even.
Poor Van Aert. It feels like he is involved in big crashes like that every year.
That man can't catch a break.
I stopped racing as a junior. I love cycling, but racing scarred the shit out of me.
The pros are true warriors. I raced a few times as a 25-year-old and it scared the shit out of me. I prefer watching races and chill rides now.
Road racing is the tough sport. I raced in Belgium in my late teens and rode for a division 1 amateur team in France hoping to make it as a pro in my early 20’s. Did a few bad crashes while racing in Europe and does take skills, courage to ride in the pack in windy / wet conditions. I had fears of crashing after suffering from road rashes and injuries after that. Now in my 50’s I enjoy racing on Zwift.
@@virtualZ161It is not tough. It is stupid. Tough is x10 ironman. Bike racing is just stupid. I was racing many times as amateur rider, won many races and got involved into bad crashes. Then I realised, what the f... am I doing? Why am I doing this? Srsly I understand pros doing this, because they make money from this but for amateur riders It is just risking life for a biscuit
@@tadziu2400Only the tough guys keep racing. The weak just quit.
@@rckd5903bro XD. I quited road racing but I keep training. My workout shedule is close to what the pros are doing. My FTP is 5.5W/kg mid season. My diet is on point. I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke etc. I have wife and one kid. My training sessions are thougher than 99% of amateur road racers and in your opinion I'm weak just because I don't risk my life to prove I'm better than other amateur riders? What is the point of doing that? Is risking my life making me more tough? I was racing a lot in the past and won many races so I don't have issue with the "toughness" of this sport. I just realised It's not worth it. It does not make me more tough. It just puts me into dangerous situations where I can lose everything in my life and win nothing except fake gold medals and sometimes 100$
1:20 Wout on the floor 1:12 Wouts frontwheel in the air. Seems to be he was the first to crash? Matches his position on the floor.
Tiesj Benoot thinks Wout touched his backwheel and indeed went down first. Tiesj was devastated about it. Always been such a good team player and now he thinks he's the cause of it all. Forza Tiesj, it was a racing accident. Anyway, Wout told Tiesj to go so he went out of his saddle which may have caused him to lose his line with a few inches. In a densely packed peleton going 80+ km/h, there's no escaping.
Yeah! Very unfortunate! Benoot explained it in the post race interview! Such a sad scene.
Man you really hate to see this. Crashes are brutal. Since I've been watching I haven't seen one that involves that many of the big names in it either. Wow.
I'm in awe of these professional athletes.
Gutter caught them out.... look at the road surface - sad sad day for all of them... what a shame to see all that prep go in a moment
Hope that everybody is alright.... I was probably quite a high speed :-/
Around 60-65km/h.
Every who crashed at 40km/h+ knows the feeling
Benoot said after the race they where doing 80km/h on that section.
I once crashed my racing bike at "just" 30km/h and didn't feel like ever getting up again. 😆 That was enough to lose a good deal of skin and get a fractured elbow. Can only imagine how bad it feels at the speeds these guys are doing.
Absolutely devastated for van Aert. He deserves a all the luck in the world for the rest of his career. Sadly it doesn't work like that.
Crashing doesn't feel good regardless of the speed, but yeah, the faster you are going the farther you slide on the pavement. Been down there more times than I care to remember during the 25+ years I raced, but I am very fortunate to have never had more than road rash and 1 severely sprained wrist, which I suffered during a pack sprint finish crash early on. One reason I always hated pack sprints.
Been there done that. Luckily was cool weather and had nylon pants and jacket on, helped me skid on asphalt a bit. Still, no activity for 2 months. A friggin loose dog ran out into the road, I T boned it on a downhill and skidded several meters. Dog was fine. Dog owner came out. I asked why is it loose (against the law here). He said "It's the country" = great, that works for me idiot. Prayers for Wout, that is toooo brutal. Maybe mountain biking is safer.
WVA season is over basically, *maybe* he can turn up to the TDF in good shape but its tough to miss weeks of training in the pro peloton.. Must be so so emotionally upsetting. You bust yourself in winter training, thousands of miles of training. Then you know you have lost a season in the *prime* of your career. Sports injuries are really cruel like that.
I feel for WVA and all the others. I agree it will be a while before WVA gets back to form, may not happen this year. Pogi had a broken wrist last year and that derailed his training. WVA with a collarbone and multiple ribs is gonna have a bit longer off the bike, might make TdF but won’t be in top form for sure. Didn’t hear to much about the extent of others injuries so hoping they aren’t nearly as bad.
It's the small gap in the road surface, & maybe Wind took out front wheel. Seen it before!
Ronde van Vlaanderen becoming less interesting by the day. If this goes on, Visma won't even have enough riders to start.
Maybe if they had lease-a-racer they can work something out.
@@alexamerri2 🤣🤣🤣
Yea they've had a rough run of it for their team in prep for that race.
Now My legend in My land, Jonas Vingegaard, is injured

I love riding my bike. I love watching cycling races. But every time I start thinking "What if I had been talented enough to ride professionally?", I see a crash like this and am reminded that I'm better off in the path my life took me.
Ayayayayyyy I hope they will be okay for the rest of the season.
That's not good 😕
Damn, thats bad. Sickening to watch. I love cycling but hate to see crashes like this one.
WvA cannot win for losing- What awful luck!
My guy is DONE for the RvV as he will be getting ZERO sleep on that chewed up back for at least a week and P-R is looking dicey at best...
Hopefully dude will be back on track for the Giro, but I suspect that he will be asked to do his hyper-domestique thing at the TdF again this year...
MvdP was just gift wrapped RvV unless someone does something seriously out of the ordinary....
Well Pogacar is really strong in RvV, but PR is basically done
Uneven pavement looks to be the culprit.
Isn't that the point of these races?
I mean it's a little groove that I think threw the riders off. They have inches of margin for error and someone probably got knocked off course.@@Bohonk212
Even hero's fall (and most of the time stand up again). Respect! And please everybody get well!
oh no
Ya dang man looks like the front riders avoided something in the road or a pothole and riders behind had nowhere to go. Looks like WvA may have gone down first but a few others also evaded and bumped wheels and went down. Sad to see this happen
Nossa que triste isso que todos se recuperem bem.
Looked like WVA was also run over ? If you rewatch a rider comes through and goes straight over the top,of him. Cycling crashes are the worst.
So many down and no one is really moving in the first like 10 seconds, you can tell this was high speed
damn. all the favourites are down
My boy stuyven broken collarbone.. damn I hope he is able to come back for next year let alone this year
Hope that everybody is Alright
Bini 😢😢😢😢
ouch!!!!
Wout must be the unluckiest cyclist ever. That's so bad... He could've already won the Paris Roubaix but he had a puncture, now he prepared the best he could to be in top shape for RvV and PR and he crashes twice in one week, the first not so bad but this one is in the category of "potentially career-ending"... Get well soon Wout, I hope this was the worst fall in the peloton of 2024 season.
Too many crashes now in the big races is ruining a wonderful sport as well as careers. Caleb Ewan has never been the same since his TDF crash. Maybe it's just too aggressive now and winning overides safety (which is understandable) for riders. Plus the only protection they have is a helmet but no body armour so a bad crash is the end of your season. It's crazy but I don't see any solution which is a shame for avid spectators like me.
Hope everyone is okay and nothing broken. If it was a gust of wind then that happened to me a couple of days ago and I lost it too (riding solo) and was probably only doing 20kph (Z2 training). I am patched up on a lower arm and now on a 7 day course of tablets.
Wout has a broken collarbone and several broken ribs. Jasper Stuyven also broken collarbone. Mads Pedersen (who gave up later) and Birnam Girmay had mostly bruises and burn wounds (painful enough). Yeah, Wout's Classic's season is over unfortunately.
It's ridiculous that they only earn a fraction of money compared to tennis and golf players.....
Intanto lo show continua, avanti i prossimi!
gonna say it now, it is not WVA year, at least he can be more at home with his kid
His season is over.
This is rather unfortunate
When they shownthe crash replay at 1:20, Wout is already on the ground.
Wout looked in a very bad way after that terrible crash, and I can't imagine him being able to race in Flanders this coming Sunday. It can be a very rough sport at times.
he’s unfortunately fractured a bunch of ribs, collarbone, and sternum, and is definitely out of Flanders, Paris Roubaix, and Amstel Gold. Giro is next question
So sad 😢
Wiped out so many big names 😮 geez
What a cruel sport…
Road Rush and Road Rash!
The gutter got them...
great eye
Not the gutter. He was 2 meters from the gutter (the gutter is between the parking area right from the white line, and left from the bicycle path).
Most probably an overlap of wheels.
Tiesj bennot explained after the race that he thinks he was the cause.. it was a moment where Wout told him to go faster and pull ahead. Then Tiesj got out of the saddle, causing his rearwheel to go back a few inches and hits wouts front wheel.
@@l.d.t.6327yeah.. it was told by Tiesj after the race that wout told him to speed up and pull ahead, he got out of the saddle and then hia backwheel touched wouts front wheel.
" its a nasty, nasty Sound someone Crash behind you!"
Yes, it is!
Damn this isn’t good for WVA. This means he will be out of Paris Roubaix as well 😢. This literally couldn’t come at a worse time for WVA. He’s been on a bit of skid of late. His form and results have been falling for the last 12 months and now a crash to deal with. Unfortunately I think we are witnessing the downwards end of WVA’s career. I can’t see him recovering from this and being in contention with the best one day racers again. 😢
That crash registered on the Richter scale. Horrible.
Why they ride so close to each other??? Awful crash :((((
It's a pity that Van Aert is so terribly out of the classic season… It would be an interesting duel between Van Aert and Van der Poel, it's a pity that it won't happen… I hope he recovers quickly and goes to his Giro d'Italia debut! 🤞🏼❤️
No Giro for him
Overlapping wheels, did the Bahrain rider take out Wout's front wheel?
The opposite. Wout took out everyone else. Watch the replay carefully.
They need to find some way to make the sport safer. It feels like it has gotten much worse in the past decade…
I think honestly it happens because there are too many participants, there's a whole group and bunch of people all packed together, if one person falls in front, then everyone in the back falls over them, creating a big domino effect. Maybe there should be a limit to the amount of participants? What do you all think?
50/60 k? Make it 80/90k!
Indeed! People sometimes don't realise the speeds at which these guys are going. It was indeed 80+ km/h.
This is awful, so many season faves look like they're in real trouble. This could change the entire season. Van Aert, Pedersen, Stuyven, Girmay.....yikes.
Looked like shit road surface caused it. You see 1 rider go over a hump or little dip.
Smooth road. Touch of wheels and WvA crashed first. The rider going over the hump goes over the gutter that is more to the left (in the frontal shot) than were the crash originated.
God bless cycling helmets.
And Biniam is not jinxed, The life of a sprinter. There WILL be crashes & people will suffer.
*Gets and advertisement for a washing pod including dirty mountain bikers zooming through a forest before this video* What the f
How's the cyclist now? Get well to all specially to wout. Love you
Wouch!
Van Aert ran up a wheel!
I can understand That WVA needs more riding time to be in shape for the Ronde, but what the hell are Lidl Trek team doing Here ?
wdym wva needs more riding time. he's had plenty of races under his belt already. wout and mads always race the entire calendar. this is nothing new or unusual (for either one of em). and yes, its unusual to see lidl so much but its cos they have a new sponsor now (so more funding = maybe they upgraded their organic orange juse supplier.
Everybody talks about physical damage, which is logical, bet let's not forget mental damage. Will these guys ever dare to take the risks again needed to excel?
Yes they will
part of the sport not the best one similar to evenepoels chute 4 1 or 2 years in the middle
👍🏻👍🏻
Biniam has to admit it. He is JINXED!
Mtb downhill is safer
Not good street😢 fucking
The gust of wind affected only one guy in the middle? He sways to his right, taking out WvA and others? Not the wind, but stupidity or carelessness. And that's why the whole sport becomes unwatchable.
That's right, you get it, it's really and truly all over now, never again, life sucks, everything's just wrong, people suck, crack in the road, the economy, don't get me started, peeing hurts, zone 2 hurts even more, it's Trump's fault, they're all careless and/or stupid, it's windy, the whole sport is now totally and completely unwatchable, I'm not drama, I'm done wiaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaahaahahahahaha!!!!! 😂
Sometimes shit just happens.
E questi sarebbero proff.? Fateli pagare le bici .. vedrete che non cadono più 😊
RIP Wout.
Well he'll live but looks like he wont win vlaanderen or roubaix this year again
Stupid comment.
Asukkels kennen nie eens rechtdoor fietsen 😂
This is why cycling is getting boring.. We there we accept it or noh... Can we have uci strict policy on either it is intentional or what..
I highly doubt any riders intentionally crash at 60kph.
Crashes are part of the sport unfortunately.
