Solid review Brandon! Urethane just looks good for so long - and we wanted a smaller logo on these premium plates compared to the massive logo other brands sometimes put on for a more sleek look. Sound dampening, and you can fit 800lb+ on the barbell so pretty much all mere humans should be good. We have a full set in our employee gym and never had a problem throwing the plates around with one or two hands (cue jokes already mentioned below). As always, enjoy watching your reviews.
Looking forward to shipping to the UK/Europe in 2023. Will be upgrading to these or the Rogue 6-shooter Urethane plate whichever is available first for Europe shipping
I have them at home and absolutely love them. Can't think of anything not to like. Home gym people underrate urethane coated plates, they are so nice to have vs. cast iron.
Really cool idea we haven't thought of - props to whomever sent that in! Shorter basements for OHP for taller people like Brandon or to mimic a less stable bar press.
I have a low ceiling basement. Loading the plates on the bar through the hex hole would allow me to actually overhead press. Never thought of that before
I originally wanted the cast iron version of these or the Rogue six shooters, I got impatient for either of them to come into stock so I bought these. No complaints whatsoever though, they are holding exceptionally well out in my garage after a year of use. Thanks for posting this! 👊
Impeccable timing, just had 2/3 my order for these delivered yesterday and the other 1/3 today. 750lbs worth, but alas, no 35s in my set. The only 35s “allowed” are part of my bumper plate array. My gym, as yours, is in my basement, but you have great ceiling height. Mine cuts off at 90”. I’m only 6’1” but still for overhead presses, snatches and jerks I have to use the Rogue dumbbell bumpers for clearance issues. That limits the max weight I can use but no other solution for the Olympic lifts, because the hole in the REP plates won’t help me, but OHP I can see. I’m relatively new to your channel and have found you to be totally legit. Super legit. Mad respect for your tenacity in training, efforts, time you spend on your reviews, content and insight.
I own Steel Plates, Rubber Plates, Crumb Plates and Urethane Coated Plates.... My favorite set to use is the Urethane coated plates.. They match my urethane coated dumbbells. They look and feel beautiful. they are a joy to use. I love them. I recommend them over any other plate for a home gym.
Off topic, but I cleaned up my gym today and used your old basement cleaning video as inspiration. It would be great to see you drop an updated video on cleaning your current gym since there are much more people with equipment and stall mats now
I've been heavily debating swapping out my Rogue calibrated plates for these. I miss the feel of a nice, easy to grab plate but was a bit concerned with the hole style for the reasons you covered. Might just hope for Rogue to have $5 shipping in November and try to get urethane 6 shooters 😆
Or check out American Barbell and get their rubber grip hole plates. If you email them they can quote you the same grip hole plates in urethane instead of rubber :)
Thank you, your review saved me from buying these plates after I saw how the handles fit in your hands. I ended up going with the round hammer strength grip plates that have a very generous handle on them. Great review!!!
My home gym set up has me using my Powerblocks for most workouts a barbell would do, so my search for plates is mainly for a leg machine to help my knee health and to use the plates for workouts themselves (overhead presses, around the worlds, etc). From the insight in this video, it seems Rogue or another six shooter is probably the way to go unless I find something else.
Great reviews sir. For a garage gym in NC would you pick these over Rogue machined Olympic plates? The price is about the same. I like the look of the Rogue's grey and black but was thinking the Rep urethane would hold up better. Thanks for any input.
Brandon, great update! I’ve been lurking for too long but finally hit that “sub” button. Why do you keep multiple sets of iron plates? How do you think about selling vs holding? (maybe worth a video?) My goal is to upgrade to these Rep urethane plates, but curious if there are any good practical arguments to keep the old ones?
Great channel and excellence content! I,m also a basement guy. Anyway originally wanted a pair of 45,s but now I'm leaning toward rogues calibrated 55,s. I'm just using them for belt squats and leg presses. The question do they chip alot and any rust issues? The humidifier is set at 40% to eliminate any rusting.
I loved the urethane revolver style plates when my gym got them but after a few years they started showing signs of wear especially around the sleeve hole.
@@BasementBrandon I just measured mine at a little over 17.5 inches. And per the REP website they are listed at 444mm. That is a 3mm deficit on a deadlift which probably is not noticeable. The Rep website also shows the urethane plates as measuring both 17.7 and 17 inches in diameter. I thought damn 17 inches is small for such an expensive plate. Perhaps it is a misprint.
You mentioned the oily film. I’ve got that going on in spades. Any suggestions on how to clean that? Just repeated wiping or did you use a degreaser? It seems to be diabolically self replenishing for me.
Been using these as my favorite 2.5 and 5 lb change plates. Bumpers are getting too big to fit on the bar and weight pins, so a couple pairs of these 45s are probably gonna be next step. That price though, guh.
Great video. I have a good lead on the American Barbell Olympic Rubber plates; but, they are only 17 inches in diameter (much smaller than most). Would you steer clear or pull the trigger? Insight appreciated.
I don't like that, but I guess the only time it would be an issue is with deadlifting. Would put the bar lower and make it slightly harder, but that might be a good thing too lol.

Hey Brandon, I know this is an older video but was hoping you could answer something-are the 45’s wide enough to be stored on their 1.8” sides on something like a titan/rogue mass storage rack similar to how bumpers are stored? Any insight is appreciated
It depends on budget, but best bang for the buck is a good machined plate (to which there are several options from BoS, Rogue, StrengthCo, Troy, Ivanko) IMO.

My six shooters were great! Loved them. I just think the strength co are more aesthetically matching to my gym and I wanted to have made in USA plates if possible.
I have bigger hands and I actually like the shape of these holes vs the 6 shooter. The round holes feel like they smash my fingers together and this shape seems to spread them out differently. Weird
