Thanks so much Jose. My Stop/Start stopped working. So to test it, I connected a trickle charger to the posts under the hood overnight. The next day, the Stop/Start function worked. But only for a day or two. I then connected the charger again, just to be sure, and like the last time, the Stop/Start function worked. But for some reason, I attributed this problem to the Aux battery, not the main battery. I came to your channel hoping to learn how to change the Aux battery and was very impressed with how easy it was and your detailed info on how to change it. Then right there at the end, you mentioned your stop/start issues and you fixed that by changing the main battery. Well, I bought a battery but noticed in your comments someone said the new battery needs to be coded? with a scan tool? Explain please. And again. Great job and thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment. The auxiliary battery does not need to be registered, only the main battery. The car keeps a count of how long the main battery has been in use, and charges it harder and harder as time goes by. When you register the battery in the vehicle (reset the count) that number starts in 0 and the charging system charges the battery softly. To register the battery you need a xentry computer. If you are in NJ I can help.
Check if your batteries are older than 2 or 3 years, if they are I would change them. The warranty on them from the dealer, if that is where you got them, is only two years. If you get the one I got from FCP they give you lifetime warranty.

@@michaelallen1359 great! I’m glad is working.
It makes a lot of sense for the main battery not to be working. As I mentioned in my video, it is not always the auxiliary battery when you start/stop button doesn’t work. If the computer knows that the car won’t start again, it won’t automatically shut it off. What battery did you use? Hopefully your mechanic can restart the count for you.

First, thank you so much for the detail video. Appreciate you taking out the time to explain it in depth. I was driving the other day and on my dashboard cluster it said, vehicle leave car running in yellow. Also, it said auxiliary battery malfunction. I just purchased the battery today and going to attempt to change it out. I haven’t noticed any of the electronics not working properly except the passenger seat won’t slide all the way back, but the reclining aspect of the seat works fully as well as everything else on the seat

I'm reviewing this tutorial to assist with my parent's S550. What a RIDICULOUSLY COMPLEX routine just to check a battery!!! How in the world do you people think Mercedes builds a good car??? No wonder the depreciation is horrendous on these things!!

    • @josecitomarin

Thank you so much for your comment. I actually like the engineering of it. Many cars now have the battery in the trunk from different brands. It’s worst when is under the seat, that is really bad. When you have to change the battery under the hood, in most cases it’s a dirty job. Not if it’s in the trunk. They do depreciate super fast. But it’s good for people like me that get them used and do our own maintenance. Good luck with your parents car. Let me know if you need any more help with it.

Also was wondering on a side note I have been having an issue where the trunk no longer opens all the way automatically... is this related to the auxillary battery? Hi. Thank you so much for your comment. The auxiliary battery will show a warning in the dash. The auxiliary battery control some electronics not all. It’s kind of a back up for the main battery. If your problem is in fact a battery issue, it would be the main battery. I would start there and depending on how old the auxiliary battery is, if you can just replace both while you are at it. I did both so I don’t have to deal with that later, that way I know how long my batteries have really been in the car. Make sure to check out the video on replacing the main battery and don’t forget to register the main battery. You do that with a xentry scanner. Thank you so much for your comment. Those were beautiful models.
Maybe the quality of cars is not as good anymore, but as long as you treat them good, they will last a very long time.
If they use better materials on cars and keep building them in big cities and countries like they used to, cars would be even more expensive. So, the way I see it, it’s kind of a compromise. There is of course the planned obsolescence. No manufacture of any product anywhere want their products to last forever.
