- I started playing Cataclysm back in March of this year but I had to stop due to mocks and exams, so now I've finally beaten it a day after I'm finally free. I quickly relearned it in a few minutes, matching my best run of 43 - 100 and then improving to 35 - 100, suffering a bit in the evening with the 30s and 40s, (plus those two braindead ship deaths), and then beating it the next day.
So Cata isn't a great level gameplay wise and although the wave and ship are iconic beginning chokepoints, they get very consistent, which then gives way to random deaths to the slow mini wave, failign the double orb click in the ball, or dying to the second half of the ball with the speed changes. The first two UFO clicks are weird as hell, and the ship right after it is hellish. Maturing is realising this is actually the hardest part of the level. It pretty much never got consistent, and I just kept having to find ways to die a little less often to the entry, gravity change, and yellow orb bit. The cube after has extremely awkward timings that had me questioing everything when I died doing seemingly the exact thing that had worked last time, and once you pass that the level just becomes a nerve test, which I'm happy I passed it first time once I actually got into the reverse ship.
Overall what made this so annoying is how beginning heavy it is, leading you to just die in the early 30s and 40s unless you're having a bad day and getting clapped by the opening wave and ship. ALso I felt like I kept having to find ways around specfic 1-click chokepoint timings which is never fun to do, especially for a beginner extreme.
Anyway idk what I'll do next, probably Crimson Clutter and Poltergeist, with perhaps a new hardest and maybe even a level preview coming soon in Summer.

Yeah it got less fun as it went on, there's definitely worse extremes out there but as you can understand I had to beat this regardless of how ass it was
