I have that paddle as well, and it is my skinny water paddle. For deeper though still chance of hitting rocks I use another Bending Branches but their classic beaver tail. But my true love is my custom Fishell paddle. I recommend folks look into them. That said... I also take a double bladed paddle as well for times I need to get out of the weather quickly. But I seldom use it. I am by heart and skill, a single blade paddle guy. That aside, your canoe is a beauty. I am sure it gets more than its share of looks and compliments. I have a Northstar Phoenix in Blacklite. And I can't wait for spring so I can get back out on the water. Keep paddling and having as much fun as it is obvious you have. cheers!
Since this video release I have picked up a couple other paddles as well, Bending branches sunburst, and a Werner Kalliste. I love them! What an upgrade. A beaver tail is next on the list. I will look into Fishell, thank you for the recommendation. I enjoy single blade more and more. But those double blades are awesome. Fast and efficient. I appreciate that on the long days. I have been considering a Phoenix in IXP for the rivers......but the Swift prospector 14 has caught my eye.....decisions decisions......I am really looking forward to this coming season as well. Cheers
What another wonderful upload! Hope you have a good week and happy almost Friday friend 🌞 to you! big hugs & support and love ❤️ to your channel! A big big Like #2❤
Wow that canoe is beautiful! Amazing how light it is, perfect for getting into the remote ponds. Sweet paddle as well, bending branches makes beautiful paddles. Thanks for sharing!
That is exactly what I wanted this canoe for. Lightweight packing into those remote areas! The canoe doesn't even seem real when you pick it up. My brain says, this is insane, this can't be right. Lol Thanks for watching.
Thank you. I am very pleased with it so far. Austin did a great job of working with the situation. I will absolutely be a repeat customer. Time to get out there and paddle!
What a beautiful canoe and paddle. Bet it will cruise right along with a double paddle. Looking to lighten up my rig. At 64 getting a heavy rig on top of the car is getting to be a chore. Thanks for the video and enjoy that new canoe. Take care Al
This thing seems to move right along with the double blade! The weight of some of these canoes these days is pretty incredible. All the best to you and yours
The finish looks cool, carbon fiber accessories will be a strong and lite load. Getting a new piece is always exciting. There’s a new snowmobile with my name already on it for next winter. Congratulations and enjoy.
Good stuff my man ! Too bad the lead time on the Placidboatworks is longer now, than when my wife and I got our canoes . Absolutely classic UltraLite canoe’s ! And sorry to hear that the canoe you ordered, didn’t happen. Hopefully you can salvage the craft to your liking. I look forward to our upcoming trips !
I did want the Placid, but I am going to be happy with this one. And if I am not, you know how that goes. I won't mind waiting a year now that I have this one to play with. I am pretty sure the mix up is no big deal. It all worked out in my favor. Pretty sure it was a blessing in disguise. See ya on the water!!!
Beautiful boat! Once you load it up you may decide to leave the seat where it is, and to explore some kneeling options. The load will make stability rock solid!
Thank you! After a season with it, and quite a few trips, I have indeed decided to leave the seat as is. I believe I lucked out when they sent it to me this way. Being able to put my feet beneath the seat and or kneel are amazing options. I find this canoe to be extremely comfortable and stable. And that carbon seat is just beautiful. I love this canoe! It has been in a few gnarly big water situations, my confidence in it is rock solid. I'd like to get her out another time or two before winter hits, but I am not sure that will happen.
Sweet looking Canoe ! I’ve bought both of my Native Kayaks from Contoocook Canoe Co. the owner Pat is a stand up guy and Austin is also a great guy. Enjoy that new boat…..I know you will.
I've been paddling a Mad River Liberty for almost 30 yrs. It is 14.5 ft and weighs in at 23 pds. I've been very careful with it. It's a bit small for long trips. Hope you love your canoe and it serves you well. It's a beauty!
That canoe doesn't owe you anything!! That is impressive. I think I can get away with about a 10 day trip with this one. On my longer (for me) trips of the past, my gear load out was approximately 40lbs. In theory and on paper, this canoe they say can handle up to 260lbs. That gives me plenty of wiggle room. We will see. On more ambitious or luxurious trips I may need to resort to a different canoe. The Wilderness. Now that I have this Trillium as my lightweight canoe, I am really considering putting skid plates on the wilderness to beef her up a bit, and giving her a fresh coat of epoxy. Give her a nice work over. That will be a good fun project for this summer. Thanks for watching and commenting. Always good to hear from ya.
Congrats on the new boat - ti's beautiful. Love the Stealth layup. Ted Bell and company make phenomenal boats. I also considered a Placid Rapidfire - but two problems. 1) Didn't want to wait a year for the boat. 2) didn't want to drive 32 hours round trip to pick it up and haul it home. After talking with the awesome people at Rutabaga Paddle Sports in Madison, WI, I went with the Swift Prospector 14 Pack - being as it's mostly going to be a 30 lbs flat water fishing boat. Can't wait to see your mods on the boat - really hoping it works well. Glad you got a great deal. Sounds like a great company to buy from, and they really tried to make it work either way - take the boat at a big discount with the parts to modify, or just order another boat, and wait. My boat didn't come 100% as ordered, but I didn't feel like waiting either, and just took it as is. Enjoy the paddling...
It doesn’t matter now but delivery is possible. We had both of our Placidboatworks canoes delivered to our house. It’s a 4.5 hour drive, one way. Cheers !
The stealth layup is pretty cool. I am curious to see how well it holds up over time... Overall, I am pleased with the purchase experience. They were great to work with. Those Swift prospectors are very nice canoes. I bet it is an awesome fishing canoe. Enjoy your season.
Wow, sorry that there was a mix-up with the order, but it sounds like in the end it was a great benefit to you. I understand it's frustrating to not receive what you ordered and expected. However sounds like you received a very good offer to make things right. Plus you have ideas to customize it and make it yours. Nice. I'm jealous about you getting out. Heading up to Maine this weekend to help my sister open the family camp on the lake. If the weather cooperates I should be able to get a little time out on the water.
I am really starting to think the mix up was a blessing in disguise. I am very pleased with how it all worked out. And that carbon seat is sick! It has been a bit drizzly all day here. Rain is really starting to kick in now though. I hope you were able to get out on the water for a bit this weekend.
Good for you man! I hope you have great luck with it. I took a ride up to Placid Boatworks last summer with the intent on getting Craig's boat, but yeah, it was a year wait then too. I ended up getting a used kevlar canoe for the time being. (I sold my NovaCraft as it was too heavy.) These wait times are crazy. Best of luck brother.
Yes, much respect, at the time my wife and I went up to Placidboatworks and test paddled our boats, the lead time was only two weeks. Just fantastic, all said. One of the best investments we have made !
@@MeetMeOutside Yeah, a beautiful boat. I was starting to like the 13' since it was wider, but the year long wait was a deal breaker. Justin - your boat is beautiful! - just don't beat the snot out of it!
I will be sure to take good care of her......on the other hand, maybe I need to see how much abuse she can actually handle.....I guess it will all depend on my mood. Who knows what the future holds🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting Al.🍺
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Well, I know how much you like underwater rock gardens, so bring a tape repair kit! Best of luck with your new sweet Northstar. Joe
Heck yeah man! I have been using this thing pretty hard for 2 seasons now. Taken her through the woods of maine, adirondacks, Vermont, She's seen gnarly lake whitecaps and wind, Taken a few big hits.....got quite a few good scratches. never let me down. This canoe is amazing. I love it. Especially when she's on my shoulders.
I find that it tracks quite well when using a double blade. It tracks well enough with a single blade, but it is a short canoe. I think it performs very well. I did get pushed around a bit by the wind on my last trip. On the last day of that trip we encountered very windy choppy conditions that were quite sketchy. I will say it was manageable though. Nothing I couldn't paddle through as it turned out. Lucky for me. She performed very well in those conditions. The stability is good, I can fish from her with confidence. And once you get moving she really settles in, capable of handling rough water. I was curious about all the questions you asked me, and so far I have to say that I am very pleased with the canoe. I will say it is not a beginners canoe. I don't think it would inspire confidence to a novice. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have along the way. I am happy to help.
Great video! And great canoe. I have been looking at getting a Northstar (either NW solo or Phoenix.). Was the order mixup on Northstar’s part or the local dealer Contoocook?
Thank you Sam. Being as diplomatic as possible, I would say there were slight miscommunications on both ends. Fortunately for me, it all turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Most importantly, both companies were willing to do whatever it took to correct the situation. The customer service in that regard was top notch.
Please keep us updated on your thoughts on this boat. After 40+ years of paddling, I have yet to paddle a composite boat. Is it LOUD compared to Royalex? I keep wanting to pull the trigger on a carbon or kevlar boat but worry that it'll be that blonde at the high school dance that you always want to dance with but then she speaks and is suddenly totally unattractive.....
I will absolutely keep you posted on this canoe. Just returned from my first multi night trip in it. The canoe performed very well loaded up for a weekend of comfort. You have to paddle a composite! They are something else. They have a unique sound to them when they are on the water and the water has some chop to it. When the water slaps the canoe. But I can't say it is loud. And the way the water sounds when you glide through it, I find it pleasant. However, when you case a rock, or scrape the bottom of the canoe over a rock, or beach the canoe on sand ( a no no) or when you are portaging and have to push through brush....very loud compared to royalex. Given the cost of these things, they are very concerning loud noises. lol Your analogy made me laugh man 🤣
Your size would be pushing the limits with gear. It could be done, but I think someone your size would be feeling pretty exposed in this canoe. I pack pretty light, and can get a week out of this canoe pretty easily. A better option for you would be the Northstar Northwind Solo. It is the bigger brother of the Trillium. My canoe is a scaled down version of the Northwind Solo. Here is a link to it www.northstarcanoes.com/canoe/northwind/?option=solo

Beautiful canoe. The 21 lbs is insane. Double bladed paddles are the way to go. Enjoy!
Thank you. This thing is stupid light weight!!! I love it. Cranks with a double blade!!!
What a beautiful canoe and only 21 pounds. My Grumman weighed 65 pounds not including the sailing rig. I now have canoe envy.
It is super light. Almost unbelievable. When I pick it up my brain makes me feel like something is wrong. lol.
My Grumman (17') is an absolute tank. I hate the weight but I love its weight capacity. It does well with a 30 lb trolling motor.
