“People joke like, ‘are you going to be 5% exposed, or 100% exposed,’ I’m 500% exposed. I’m not 5%, 50%, we started with $250 million of capital, we bought $3.5 billion of bitcoin.”
    - Michael Saylor
    Location: Miami
    Date: Monday 29th November
    Company: Microstrategy
    Role: CEO
In August 2020, MicroStrategy commenced with the bold defensive move to invest significant treasury assets in Bitcoin in response to inflationary pressures. Since then, MicroStrategy has strategically enhanced their holdings to become the largest corporate owner of Bitcoin and just last week announced an additional $414 million purchase.
The strategy has been led by CEO Michael Saylor. As a developer of enterprise software, Saylor has long espoused digital transformation. Bitcoin is part of that process, digitising the last major building blocks of the analogue society: property, energy, and money.
Whilst this first wave of corporate adoption is entrepreneurial in spirit, the advantages of corporate adoption are clear. Yet, despite a glut of Bitcoin miners maximising their Bitcoin hodling, MicroStrategy hasn't been followed by a wave of institutions following suit. Such inertia is predicated on a range of impediments that may fall away in the next few years.
In this interview, I talk to Michael Saylor, the CEO of MicroStrategy. We discuss the evolution of their Bitcoin strategy, technological disintermediation, and Bitcoin as a foundational societal technology.

@@BitcoinAndChess Unpopular opinion but I felt the Tucker Carlson one was far from his best - it might even be the weakest one of his that I've heard so far.
Sure, Tucker was on board and Michael was enthusiastic but I felt he was all over the place. There was no clear direction to the conversation and he continually jumped around talking points, repeating many of them countless times.
I could tell he knew it was a big deal and probably adapted his style to the target audience of the show, so I'm not saying it to hate. Michael is among my favourites to listen to and does incredible interviews (such as this one).

In Austrian speak or in Mengers’ principle of economics book, he talks about use-value vs exchange-value. Hard money has both high use-value and high exchange value while soft ones i.e homes should have high use-value and low exchange value because they’re consumption goods. This episode is phenomenal. Especially his analog map vs digital maps analogy. It’s quite interesting considering there’s a show on Netflix called “billion dollar code” it’s about a German company that invented google maps in the 90s a decade before google did and these German guys even predicted most of the features we’ve come to like about google maps today. And that’s what Saylor just broke down for us.

Interesting. This is the only point I have ever potentially disagreed on with Michael. Assuming that humans will continue to seek comfort and status property will forever have a premium attached to it.
Utility value collapse scenario is likely going to happen if humans become robots and don’t attached meaning to beautiful things anymore.
      I.e. if art dies.
      Quite unlikely.
      Any thoughts ?

This two-and-half hour conversation was worth every minute. Michael Saylor’s evolution versus revolution analogy is something that we all need to hear, discuss and eventually decide within ourselves as we move forward. I guess I was leaning towards revolution until today. He whipped my head around to a decisive change for evolution for everyone. And to add one more observation, these kinds of interviews with Michael also helps Michael as they act as a sounding board for him to formulate his ideas and metaphors. His mind really works very fast but still needs to hear his ideas to perfect them. I’ve seen many of these ideas develop and get perfected over many interviews. So credit is also due in spades to you Peter for arranging this session and sitting through a long period without saying much. Thank you.

I get more and more impressed with Saylor every interview. It's the rich and deep metaphor that he uses to bring an abstract subject to life - and how he on the fly adjusts to his interviewer. At one point Peter completely (and I do mean completely) flubs and bozos the interview ("Are you talking about the metaverse") and you see Saylor visibly back up and rethink his approach. The only criticism I can think of Saylor here is that he visible looks away off screen and it looks like he's thinking "who is this chump - I thought he was a bitcoiner" (whether he was thinking that or not is another matter... it looked like it). But he quickly rethinks, backs up and explains from scratch.

I do hope you get to do that 'another' interview Peter, where you can ask questions more. I think everybody wants to hear Michael speak about the types of questions you would ask that we all want to hear his opinion on. Go for that 2nd interview! Cheers both of you!

I just listened to the whole thing for a second time… it’s even better than the first time. Especially the last parts… It’s hard to absorb everything the first time especially towards the end when one tends to get tired or distracted and excited with all the things you hear in the first parts by the time you get there…. So definitely worth watching again and again. Whew. It’s truly amazing subject and powerful powerful powerful.

    Michael Saylor is Iconic!💯😇🙏The Beginning
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning-the first day.
6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning-the second day.
9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning-the third day.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights-the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning-the fourth day.
20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning-the fifth day.
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground-everything that has the breath of life in it-I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning-the sixth day.

Love your podcast Pete, and I loved Michael in this one. In the presence of Bitcoiners a certain relaxed depth begins to emerge. Really enjoyed it, especially his remarks on his Twitter approach at the end. I too have things to ponder and an approach to rework. Thanks again. Looking forward to the next one, with him, and otherwise.
