As a speech pathologist, I would definitely recommend that he goes to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who will be able to do a laryngoscopy and actually have a look at his vocal folds to see what’s happening there! It also seems like there’s a lot of tension in his neck when speaking and he does not really articulate and move his mouth much which might be contributing to the “constricted” sound that you’re hearing! And so, seeing a speech pathologist will definitely benefit him to ensure that he’s not using such vocally abusive behaviours. Im not sure whether Korea has these specialists available but it’s definitely an option for him to consider if he’s extremely concerned about it!
They may not have heard of it. For him to go through it for years, and go to this program, it means the family and specially him don't know what to do anymore.
I think Korea is advanced medically so I assumed they have speech pathologists. I agree that he seeks medical advice for him to be treated. A psychologist too to address the depression out of bullying. We all know that Korea has a high rate of suicide. I feel sorry for this boy. Keep fighting!

I mean everyone's voice varies sometimes even I feel weird about my voice since it sounds like a mix of female and male voice as it's female pitch but lowered a little so it sounds a little like a male sometimes. But honestly I don't think you would have a weird voice

As a girl,if u listen to my voice it's sound like a male voice. Not really but a lot lower than actual feminine voice. When i talked on phone or in a video,it's kinda upsetting for me. And because of this I don't really sing

It's like how I got alopecia and lost a decent amount of my hair :P It may seem petty to other people, but I don't go anywhere without some kind of hat, and im always insecure because of it. When people ask me why I wear a hat, I just say: "It's just my style now. Why do you ask?"

I have a friend who has a similar condition as he does in high school and to be honest he's different from any other guy in my school. He's charming and is actually a very nice guy. I was an international student back then and for 4 years we were in the same class and even took the same mother-tongue language class together. At first I didnt know why he never spoke out loud in 1st year. I had thought that he was just shy in nature, but it turned out that he had that voice problem after all. As years went by, he became more and more confident about his voice and started to speak out loud in class, and that's because everyone around really gave him the support and assured him that it's OKAY. To be honest I never felt anything special about him during high school until I went back to my home country after finishing high school. I started missing him out of nowhere and frequently thought about him. That's when I realised I actually had a crush on him all this time. He's not that handsome or anything, but he's really charming in my eyes because he had a clear goal in his life to become a pilot. I did reach out to him on social media after going back home and asked how things were going, and I actually wanted to get close to him but I knew he just wasn't that into me so hahaha so I gave up. Now, he's gotten so much more confident (which i'm actually verryyy proid of) and is even more charming than ever. He's still pursuing his dreams of (though not becoming a pilot), studying aviation in tertiary education. It doesn't matter whether he has a voice problem or not, it's the people around him that hold the influence to make him a confident person in and out. Even though it didn't really work out between me and him, I was glad that I played a part in making him a more confident person. Sorry for the long post! >.

i m 20 yo and i have a friend who had the same problem too except his voice was the opposite. Idk how to explain but he kinda sound like a kid, squeaky?, had not gone puberty yet? so i wanna say that that this guy right here is actually lucky, at least when he grow older it isnt weird anymore since as the older u get the huskier ur voice is? and yep i agree w some other comments, that the longer you heard his voice, the normal it is.. i hope he gets better tho, emotionally and physically.
If a guy has crossed puberty and is very tall and has a slightly feminine voice then he most likely has a hormonal problem for which he should see a doctor.
It must’ve been hard for people like Wendy and Joy (and other singers) to hear this. Their job relies on their voices.
Especially for Wendy, she has an incredible voice - it's considered to be one of the best in all k pop history - yet she developed vocal nodules around the time of her debut since she overworked her voice in preparation so she knows the struggles of having conditions related to vocal chords. She's okay now, but vocal nodules are known to hurt like hell so I can only imagine how much she suffered promoting their debut.

I don't know if you've noticed but companies usually don't give non-visual members with great voices many lines, and only keep visual members in front even if their voices aren't great. you need looks, weight less then a certain amount, etc.. and you also need to dance well, memorize dancing quickly, be taller then a certain amount, and then the voice comes lastly. of course there is performing and charms before voice overall, but it changed nowadays so that is great and all.
Honorificabilitudinitatibus everyone in red velvet is pretty, so visuals isn't a problem for them and they all have beautiful voices.

Awww, am I the only one that thinks his voice is what makes him unique? He shouldn't have to worry this much, for every person has something that makes them different.
Honestly his voice grew into to me the more i heard him talk. At forst it sounded weird. When i think about it if i was his friend i would get over the fact that his voice sounds like that.

There are a few boys at my school who have a voice similar to his. It's really sad that his friends would ask him to stop talking because they don't like his voice. I see it quite often in class and it makes me so angry.

I feel sad and indignant for him that he had to go through all that... okay it's understandable if one finds his voice weird, but to even mimic/mock him is totally uncalled for. What's wrong with people, seriously...
But at the same time, I'm proud of him for being so mature and strong through it all; and thoughtful towards his family (though I wish he had just been transparent with them and shared his feelings so they could have supported him even more through this)... and my heart is warmed by his family - his family is honestly goals. They truly honour and love one another, and function as one, just like how a family should be (which sure makes a change from the usual glut of insensitive/problematic family members we've seen on this show)

Well.. in my opinion, he is really beautiful and hid voice just sounds normal and beautiful. He should be happy that he is unique and different than others. Shame on all of you who laughed and made fun of his voice. You think it's funny but to the person reciving them it's just rude. I got bullied because of my accent and I felt like I should never speak but the more I spoke the much better my accent became.

I was like him before. I thought I can't do anything about my voice and it will that like that forever. Until I reach age 20-21, someone told my parents to bring me to ENT Specialist. Strangely, my parents didn't noticed & didn't think my voice was weird at all before that Lol. But honestly, I went through a lot of hardship during school & university. I just don't want to talk to anyone and I became a very quite person. I didn't tell about it to my parents. I just kept it to myself. I went to the specialist & yes there's a problem with my vocal cord. My left vocal cord was paralyzed - didn't active (something like that). I undergo with a voice therapy at first but it didn't work. So I received a surgery and thank god everything change after that. Now, I have become a financial consultant Lol. Never imagine that I would be in this career line =D
Does this boy already seeks for checking with ENT Specialist. I hope his voice still can be fix and then become a very confident person after that. Just enjoy your life, be with the person who love you & ignore all those negativity.
