Nathan, Thanks for pointing out unique places to visit and experience that the average tourist may miss unless they have carefully researched things to do in Taiwan. As you mentioned, there is nothing wrong doing the 5 star hotel and major tourist sites but one shouldn't neglect to, "get off the beaten path", and see areas that a group tour might not include in their tours. For Taiwan travel businesses , Taiwan government emphasize tasty food too much but ignorance the Taiwanese culture which most of the foreigners interested in ,especially the tourists from western countries. Nathan, swimming in Taiwan rivers is very dangerous. There are a lot hidden swirls and river rises extremely fast during rainy day. You won't have a chance to survive that.

舊的孔廟(台北府文廟)是現在北一女中的舊址，總督府拆了建北一女中。
這個孔廟是在日本時代由台北士紳捐地捐錢興建，不是重建，日本總督府也捐了2萬日圓，全部興建費用26萬日圓。

反而其他城門在國民黨來後全被改成北方宮廷式的建築
