it really depends on PV's. i think the ones with a darker aesthetic look much worse with the toon shader but ones with a colorful aesthetic look better
The thing with the darker ones is the the stages have a lot more texture and the original shading because that stuff is not rendered with the shader but just painted on, completely opposite of the character models because the original more realistic texture is made real time by the shader. It’s like putting a anime style character in a realism painting, It’s awkward and distracting and clearly lazily put together.
They should have just made a new game and it would have done better visually then this port we got for the switch.

I have both Project DIVA Future Tone and MegaMix so I've seen what they both look like. It's cool that the PC version lets you change the visuals. Me personally, I like the Future Tone visuals just a little more than the MegaMix. maybe cause on the Nintendo Switch it looks more low res. Maybe those visuals look better on PC at either 1080p or 1440p, 4k, whatever.
PC has an option to play mega mix with future tone visuals?

@@TheLastFBIagent Yes. I never tried it until yesterday. I was like "Why would I try an older game graphics?" and turns out FT has way better graphic models than MM+.

I wish there was some sort of mix between the shaders, as MegaMix is too bright and saturated, yet Future Tone kinda puts *too* much detail making the characters seem doll-like and uncanny
I think DIVA F 2nd has that mix, the models are a bit low poly, but aside from that I think it got that balance of detail and shading just right. Its my favourite style by far

im really not a fan of the more cartoony looking shading however in some of the music videos I like it for example in zenbonzakura I liked how rin looked with the newer shading

It's kinda weird in Senbonzakura when Future Tone was bright, MegaMix was darker. But when MegaMix was bright, Future tone become less bright.
I think i prefer the future tone visuals, they feel a lot more polished to me than the mmd look of the toon shaders. really cool that it lets us switch between them!!

I think realistic vs cartoonish aesthetic differences aside, I'd be willing to wager the one on the left wouldn't look much worse than the right one (if at all) if only the white balance on the characters was adjusted properly to their surroundings. The shadows are way too subtle and oftentimes the models are far too bright, making it feel like a poorly composited video on top of the background rather than being part of the environment.

the toon shader on megamix is honestly really nice looking, especially if you actually view it on a switch, because of the smaller screen and all, but it seems to ignore the lighting in some of the pvs (romeo and cinderella is a good example). a shame, because it looks really weird and i'm sure it could look better and more balanced if it was tweaked
Like a lot of people have said, there’s different aspects that are good\bad about each. For example, in the pv for Acute, Kaito’s hair looks greasy in mega mix and his clothes look flat, whereas the shiny and flat the shiny look suits Miku in the pv for Teo
Edit: I’d like to add that I kinda wish that we could have the skin color of mega mix, everyone looks *too* white and kinda transparent

people rag on megamix's visuals, but tbh I don't think they look that bad at all. Only thing I think is definitely a step down is the lighting-- in some pv's its really not noticeable, but in others like the romeo and cinderella one, it's really noticeable. Some kind of color grading or cell-shaded... well, shading would've been a big help I think
I like certain aspects of both versions. I like the clothing on Future Tone, but I like the hair a lot tbetter on Mega Mix. I feel like the shadows should've been something that on both versions.
This game seriously needs and option (or a mod) that enables to set the graphics style for each individual song, just like the buttons sounds or the modules. There are songs that look amazing in FT style while others look gorgeous in MM style and it's a pain in the ass to remember to toggle that option on or off before playing each song.
Albeit not technically official, an arcade dump of the game has been made playable on pc with the ability to toggle on and off toon shaders with a button press

It's really nice of them to add the option of switching visual styles in the pc version. I was on the fence, cause I like the future tone style more (they have noses lol), so that convinced me

i love megamix's shading a lot bc its my introduction into the series but they really did the Romeo & Cinderella PV dirty, they should at *least* add dynamic lighting to the model :(

for me not only does it depend on the aesthetic but also sometimes the future tone looks better just because it takes glowyness better
future tone gives me ps2 and ps3 era pre rendered cutscene vibes which i love

Yo I did a side-by-side comparison of this video and a couple of videos of Megamix (on switch) and help why is Megamix style on Megamix+ significantly less bright than Megamix
I will only use MegaMix visual if it gives me 50% more of battery life on the Steam Deck
Putting that toon shader on everything just makes many PVs look like ass, such as anything with even remote lighting effects, and literally anything involving Miku in her original colors; her hair just looks bad, LOL
Romeo & Cinderella here for example, why does the character look so bright as opposed to FT’s slight darkening; it’s literally like the PSP games
I’m so glad the PC one lets you use FT graphics because I find them absolutely beautiful, they should really bring that feature over to the Switch version
I’m pretty sure the reason megamix on switch has the toon shader is because the switch is underpowered
@@sonicfan73887 Multiple people have removed the shader with hacked Switches, and the game ran just fine, so I doubt that was an issue

So, I'm guessing you're more of a fan of the Arcade/Dreamy Theater/Future Tone graphics then. I wouldn't say the toon shader makes everything look like booty, but if you have no experience or respect for the original PSP games, there's no way for one to really appreciate the toon shader to an extent. I can see why you think it looks like butt, but it might be due to the fact that it really does depend on the PV as some have said and maybe people have been spoiled by the Dreamy Theater/Arcade/Future Tone graphics for it to change. Or better yet, Sega is maybe a bit lazy to change anything to make this game different than Future Tone. Let's not forget that the Two-Faced Lovers PV from Project DIVA extend that made its appearance in Dreamy Theater/Arcade/Future Tone has toon shader as well.

tbh i like mega mix shading and bright colours, i feel like future tone can sometimes blend into the background with the darkness. but that means mega mix also kinda sticks out in some instances. if mega mix had some darker shadows and more defined face, id definitely prefer it. but how it is, i like them the same
i think that staff in romeo and cinderella is one of the few objects that isn't a character that gets affected by this filter
also why was the megamix side during rolling girl at such a low framerate
I assume the mega mix side for rolling girl was recorded on the switch version
Windows Version have Over Brightness problem, because it use MegaMix lighting in FutureTone Style Render Mode, it should use FutureTone lighting. PS4 Version have correct lighting. th-cam.com/video/dOrh3IoDnF0/w-d-xo.html
Using the Romeo and Cinderella clip as my example, since both use something to the effect of the old Project DIVA Arcade engine, I can see that with the toon shader in Megamix, it makes the PV seems somewhat reminiscent of the original PSP games (DIVA, 2nd, and extend), while Future Tone carries the essence of the old Arcade game and the Dreamy Theater games for PS3.
The MegaMix shader just makes everyone look like they don't have noses
Thing I notice is that MegaMix looks smoother for lack of a better term? And the lighting feels alot more simple. That make sense?
Also wow why does Romeo & Cinderella have such a drastic difference that it looks like two seperate characters?

I like the Future Tone style really much, but I dont own a PS4. I have Megamix on nintendo switch lite, but obviously I wont buy the same game on PC. In my opinion, Sega add the same option to the OG megamix. I know it sounds stupid, but the bloom on megamix looks like shit

as player who only plays it,thx i couldnt tell differences besides the eyes....ok so right has more contrast and like acute,better textures...the clothes look brighter but somehow also more realistic thanks to some more details....but now ill know the differenc.thx
the biggest problem for me is how flat they characters look, you can barely see any features on them. they look uncanny because their skin is so light and 2-d meanwhile everything else has shadowing to it

I genuinely find a big issue with Mega Mix is the lighting a good example is with Romeo and Cinderella at 0:47 Miku’s so bright and she looks so out of place with the background unlike in Future Tone imo, I mean yeah it’d probably be too much to handle on a switch but still-

I'm surprised this isn't more common of an opinion. I didn't even realize the graphical difference was this big until I switched it earlier and wow it looks terrifying
I prefer the Future Tone version because the MegaMix one looks way too bright and more 2D somehow, which is probably just on my end. It’s just a bit too bright and shiny, and I like being able to focus on beating the songs and not getting blinded.
I play mega mix+ steam and use Future Tone all the time. The skin and light is so bright compare to the PS4 future tone.
But that song catch the wave always have to on shader instead of 3d shader even when I set the visual to future tone.
Lmao 1 year too late and idk if you still care. There are certain songs in Future Tone which use a toon shader because it fits the music videos better, and it still gets forced on the same songs in Megamix +. But if you compare it to the MM toon shader, it actually looks different and they use different methods for lighting. The Future Tone one looks ugly to me because it looks like the models are covered in grease, but at least it reacts to the lighting in the area unlike the MM one.
I searched for this vid to see what game i should buy, but now ive seen that you can switch between them in the pc version of mega mix which i first worried that you couldnt. Im not a big fan of the one without detailed shaders.

It's crazy how much better the Future tone design is. Mega Mix literaly looks like an older game. Also I don't know what's up with the Anti Aliasing but Mega Mix looks pixelated af on my pc. Definitely choose future tone. It's so much more beautiful.
I just got hatsune miku Human size doll like she looks like on the first song she is cute as hell, when you touch its arm it feels like a real human skin, you can change the post, and you can even change the clothing and it is so realistic, I will give it to my girlfriend she's been a fan of miku, damn but is so expensive but worth it,
The reason the mm shader looks bad is because of the background. It's just weird that the bg is super detailed and then the models are just...

I think the megamix fit in with older song and the low res texture. Newer song fit perfectly with future tone cause they're match with the environment
I wonder how a raytraced version could look on newer consoles. Maybe at running at 30 fps in the background while the notes are rendered separately.
Otherwise, future tone just looks much better overall to me, other than the skin reflecting a bit too much light in some scenes. The lighting in megamix just hides a lot of detail and makes the models look like they're from the ps2 era.
I like ft for more soft romantic or certain songs that just look better like senbonzakura, And Rolling Girl
While For More Energetic And Upbeat Songs I Like MM

I hate seeing all the mega mix hate, it’s not the worst it’s just people seem to value realism over cartoony. Which in ur self is fine, it’s just something you have to get used too.
I’ll admit that megamix looks actually really nice and the switch.
Maybe it’s just me who prefers the bright graphics but it’s not the worst.

I like Future Tone than Mega Mix. Mega Mix are too bright and less detail (even they don't make it really less detail, sorry for my bad grammar) and Mega Mix feels like 3D anime. Future Tone are give too much detail, seems like a real robot/doll and if we see their eyes and face, it's give more emotions and expressions because of the detail.

Games pretty much unplayable on pc at the moment with Denuvo killing the frames and causing stutter, as well as eliminating any offline playability.
No must be just your setup, The overwhelming majority of us have no issue playing the game

Nope it’s only available on Project Diva MegaMix+ which is a pc port of the Nintendo Switch version :)

La verdad para mi el project diva future tone se ve mejor que el megamix ya que el estilo d textura grafica es mucho mas detallada los sombreados contraste brillos usa todo esos recursos a la perfeccion dejando una textura detallada y unica en cambio el megamix el texturizado es mucho mas simple mucho menos detallitas mas caricaturesco.
