    The second Gullwing Steering Wheel with the access door on it's facial, can clearly be seen during Season 2's episode, "Ring of Fire". That particular steering wheel is featured early in the episode, after Michael Knight was shot at by Cray (Christopher) Callan. KITT drives to Michael's rescue..., then breaks into a 180 slide (while opening the door for Michael to get inside). As Michael Knight hops inside KITT, the access door on the face of the Gullwing Steering Wheel can be seen from the Passenger's side camera point-of-view.

    Love your videos!
    Building my own kitt replica and I love learning all these details.
    I was at universal studios in 1988 and i saw and spoke to kitt I actually have video.
    It's pretty cool to see that may have been the car..
    I had asked kitt a question how much was he worth and if I can buy him.. he replied with you can't afford me.... And after that I said to myself I will own it one day.
    Over 30yrs later I'm building my kitt.
    Going to have my childhood dream ride come true..
    thanks for all the great videos.

    I always wanted a KITT steering wheel. I still get a kick out of it. Got to sit in KITT when I was a youngster but it was my baby brother that got to touch the steering wheel.

    I've always wondered why car designers don't have the center consoles angled toward the driver, like KITT's were. I'm not saying it should look like KITT, just not parallel to the dash.

    Hi Joe Another excellent Video!!. Its been a lot of years gone by and I could be wrong but .I believe that the first wheel that you showed is the one that I had to repair back in the late 80's and I assume that it is on the Car you have now and you drive yourself I can't put a date to it, but I am pretty sure it was on one of my first visits to work on K.I.T.T that I had to repair it , I didn't have much time to repair the damage that some one caused ..Not sure why anyone would deface a beautiful Steering yoke like that by cutting a chunk out of it . But as you know there is all kinds of Crazies out there I had to borrow some two part epoxy paste from Universal maintenance , it was a quick and dirty job and I didn't have time to sand it as well as I wanted to Because I had about 10mins to work before the park opened to the general public ,So I sprayed some black lacquer over it trying to match up the paint as best I could ..I think its cool you still have it , Hell I wish I had it to hang up on my K.I..T.T. STILL ROCKS WALL with my Flag, License Plate, and Shadow Box with Original K.I.T.T Parts that you sent me .As always You and Sarah and the Kids , STAY SAFE ,AND KEEP UP THE OUTSTANDING WORK FOR THE FOUNDATION !! Later Jake

    What’s interesting about this is a few KITT replica owners hate this wheel because it hits them in the nuts when they have to turn hard or fast.
    Are the screen used ones not as wide?

    Speaking of steering wheels, in one DVD extra Jack Gill said they had a car with two steering wheels - one on each side - so they could shoot scenes where KITT would drive up and MK would get in without a switcharoo (he said the Hoff would always try to take over driving duties from the stunt driver). Any info on those cars?

  • @tryksta7247
    @tryksta7247 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Awesome stuff. Particularly interested in that issue with the hole in the center of one of the wheels.
    It always appeared to me that there was a pilot wheel with the "Knight Two Thousand" lettering and then an alternate car using a wheel with an indented hole in the center swapped back and forth between seasons 1 and 2.
    The "hole" actually appeared more like a design indent and not for practical stunt use. Can you confirm if that was the case? Or were all the center holes always for stunt work?

    • @KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial
      @KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The original Scheffe wheel had a hole in the center for mounting the wheel that he covered up with a piece of styrolite. When the wheel was molded by universal, that hole in the original wheel created the indent you see in the copies.

    I have a question regarding the first wheel shown . .on the underside access door.
    Once removed does this give you direct vision to spline thread and nut ?
    If this is correct , how come all the versions shown " off car" show a mounted rear boss,moving the splines further from the wheel ? .
    Why ? and is there a set measurement of rear boss stand off ..
    Thank you for your time .
