The Maginot Line ended at the Belgium border as no one at the time of construction and at the outbreak of WWII thought that an armoured division could advance through the Ardennes Forest with few roads through it which were mined, so the Northern end was left to the forest to form the defence. This caught everyone in the French and British High Command by surprise which led to the Evacuation from the Dunkirk beaches, with a lot of French and British Soldiers trapped on the Maginot Line. The French were captured when France capitulated, most of the British escaped only to be captured later, to spend the rest of the war as POW's. It was mainly a Scottish Division stationed there along with a French Division.
This was definitely the most incredible video yet. An entire segment on an Air B&B! As a history buff, we were blown away. Again, thank you for having the owner speak on camera, it added so much. Thanks for showing the rustic part. Eric loved your dance moves. Did you go to France just to stay in the bunker? Fantastic!
Your film work is amazing 😍😭 I have been loving watching you two travel, I’ve steadily been adding places to my bucket list as I watch your videos !! I love the content you two put out and the amount of work you put into your videos!! Can’t wait to keep watching 💜
Been a fan for a couple of years, and this has been one of my favourite videos. That bunker looks like an incredible place to stay. Also have to say I'm really enjoying the longer format to your videos these days. More EA is always good! :D
Very informative, and I recall my grandfather speaking of the Maginot. Contrary to what some might say, there were plans to close the obvious gap, even with Blitzkrieg it could have bought enough time, but the cost of construction was crippling on a nation just out of WW1 memory. Love you guys.
"Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times." - G. Michael Hopf. Given the historical significance of this bunker compared to what it is now, I can't help but think that we're at the second half of this cycle when watching this.
Hey Eric and Allison, I love your vids and enjoy seeing your travels, I wanted to order some of your merch but I was wondering if you ever plan on doing larger sizes?
You guys take us to places we will never get the chance to go see. So glad to be a part of your subscribers family! 💙 The bunker was awesome and creepy at the same time... but so interesting. Might be the oddest place I’ve seen you stay at so far !!
When you look at the picture with the soldiers you can clearly see in the background how it was back then - there where big trees around but they cut the lower branches for better view and some camouflage combined.
I left you for a while, too many sponsorship $$$$ reviews, but OK I get it, we all have to pay bills THIS is maybe my favourite post after your early Ireland videos ..so accessible and unique for young and old that have limited resources. Well done you two ! I now have 1 hr to do researching this bunker, Well done, bien fete Hector ! I see its now totally sold out !
Nice job! Although it would creep me out to stay in that bunker I think you did an excellent job of filming the experience, and the surrounding forest is beautiful. P.S. it’s a moat.🤗
The picture of the soldiers with the puppies, they were used for two reasons. 1, to keep them company, & 2, if someone was sneaking up, very camouflaged, and the soldiers didn't see him, the dogs would hear them first, and bark, which would alert the soldiers that there is someone there.
Another great episode. The interview and little history stuff worked really well. Too much work to do every time but an occasional longer episode is a great idea.
The Maginot line was built between WWI and WWII. It was built in a way that would have protected France, if the next war was fought like WWI, but it was almost useless against the modern weapons of WWII. The German panzers were able to breach the line, with no problem.
Ok - I know this is going to sound really creepy because Hector is probably young enough to be my son, or maybe grandson; but I think I'm in love with Hector! He's a man who thinks outside the box and obviously knows how to get things done.
DURING WORLD WAR II, German Nazis built concrete bunkers up and down the west coasts of Norway and France. These fortifications were known collectively as the Atlantic Wall, and it was this barrier that the Allies breached during the invasion of Normandy.
@@Linda-k5d6d I'm just a history buff, and world war two is a big thing for me. I guess I know what they were used for . And it's great that they are making some use out of it! But the idea where that place was used to kill, and men most likely took their last breaths there, really makes me not want to go there haha.
Hey, y'all! So, this was French built, probably in the 20's or 30's and last occupied/used by the Germans as France was overrun in May/June of 1940. Did they tell you anything about that aspect of the history?
9:16 - Imagine if bunker door is not opening after closing door and you are stuck-up inside bunker then you have lifetime opportunity to discover hidden secrets and histroy of this bunker 😂😂😂
Oh interesting! My (Allison's) mom added canned pears to our cottage cheese growing up, but I haven't tried fruit in it since I was a kid. Next time! 🍎👍

Interesting place. Thanks for the history lesson!
I really enjoyed this history lesson -looks like a great place to stay.

Awesome bunker! Thanks!
Great video! Really interesting location!! Glad the field mice weren't TOO sociable!

I have been waiting for the latest upload! 🤣🤣🤣
I would be so scared staying there but great vlog guys lol
The decision to build the Maginot Line was in 1929, the bunkers were built in the 30's.
was that a darts board on the wall - did not know the French played darts! beautiful peaceful place anyway.
Mark from Bournemouth
Love it
Another great episode. The interview and little history stuff worked really well. Too much work to do every time but an occasional longer episode is a great idea.
I love history
Love this guys 😚
Another great video. So informative. Thank you.
This video has all the history buffs salivating
One cool place on the planet ,that's 4 sure.
The magino line know I spelled it wrong he's speaking of is definitely a explore but careful not to get lost in it as it's very long
From an Aussie, cottage cheese and chips is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen 😂
You two are so adventurous and also very cute!
I am going to travel and sketch. Come and see you. Your channel theme is very good.
Bunkered down. Tipsy tips. Sorry, Eric. I'm stealing those :)
🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻😂😂 too funny!!
Ali looks good in black!!!!

Pretty damn awesome! However, the crossbow on the wall had be at hello
The best food ever cottage cheese and chip don't forget the sausage haha.
Do I’m guessing that there were also a lot of escape paths to allow for retreat?
Just looked at this place on AirBnb and it seems it’s been viewed 148 times, it’s £85 a night in November
you could have held the axeblade with one hand and use the other one to bash the blade into the wood.
Those carrots looked bomb!
Ok! I haven't watched yet, but the title made me do a double-take! Watching NOW! Ha! Ha!
Love from karachi😍😍
Excuse me if I geek out, but I believe there's a "history tour" from Normandy through that area of France. I'm pretty envious of you guys right now.
I don't think I could stay some place where so many people were killed.... But it looks great.

This bunker never actually saw any firefight, and if anyone died there, it was by natural causes 👍
02:15 can you level that frame for me guys?
The entrance of the bunker is at the back not the front. :)
And somehow, some way, someone will STILL hear our baby crying in the middle of the night lol
That has to be my favourite post of yours ever. All are good but this was exceptional.
Bunker from above with that path looks like Darth Vader.
I kept thinking a silhouette of a ghost would pop out of nowhere behind you guys during the tour 🤣👻
We're so glad none did! 😂
I always look forward to your uploads! And this Air bnb is now on my bucket list lol.
If you asked me: no Thanks...not my option for a night ( haunted/dangerous) ... creepy one I would say...
It was interesting...
There is no way I would stay there. Visit? Yes. And pay my respects. Stay overnight? No.
you two would be great History Teachers...all you have to do is show your students your videos lolol... nice video and history lesson..
Please make your incredible videos in 60fps, its better for large displays.

Sipsy Tips! What!!!
Is cottage cheese and chips really any good?

Did you ever think that the bunker could be haunted ? Lol
Well, you don't see that everyday!
Leve your phone like that a fox will runaway with it ore a raven...happend to me.....got it back do...tracking.
Just add a little apple sauce w the cottage cheese and chips and you have my childhood, lol 🤣
Oh interesting! My (Allison's) mom added canned pears to our cottage cheese growing up, but I haven't tried fruit in it since I was a kid. Next time! 🍎👍
So close to a little town called "Schengen" ;-))
Amsterdam or Rotterdam in the schedule? So easy to get to get to and you'll love the people! The Netherlands is amazing
She has some hairy arms😁💪
800 Francs in 1968 would have been about $160 US dollars
The unfinished room looked like silent hill
Whoever wrote that in the guestbook wasn't very original! Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is the original! They stole it from that!✌🐢
