I believe he trained for several years in Wushu, i.e. Chinese martial arts (that's why he was so flexible and could excecute a flawless jump reverse crescent kick, as you saw), and today he still trains in various martial arts, including Iaido (sword drawing), Kendo (Japanese fencing), and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
This was his first single after leaving Van Halen and one the best shredder "fast" solo guitarist of the time. His new band was loaded with talent that could match his showmanship.

David Lee was a martial arts guy, very flexible indeed.
I started going to rock shows in 1977 up until the present day and Roth was unequivocally the best frontman and overall entertainer I've ever seen, no one could work a crowd like Dave, and the dude was always having such a great time it just rippled out into the audience. Good, happy times. By the way check out his YT channel he regularly uploads dance numbers, music ditties, stories, or whatever pops into his head. The dude has still got the moves and flexibility even at 69 years old and continues traveling the world, last I heard he was living in Japan learning swordsmanship.

David started as the lead singer for Van Halen. They were huge in the 1980's. Don't remember why, but he was replaced by Sammy Hagar. Yea, David had a great sense of humor and liked to make it fun. A great singer and entertainer. A real showman. Keep on rocking 😊🎉❤
Dave left the band due to musical differences with Eddie VH wanting to bring in keyboards, plus Dave's ego got a little out a little out of control as well.
DLR also said he grew very tired of EVH's constant desire to get back into the recording studio, Eddie was very OCD about recording and being a perfectionist. Once Eddie built his own home studio (5150) he pretty much lived in it and Dave mostly wanted to play live in front of a crowd. After the 1984 tour finished, EVH immediately wanted to go back into 5150 studios and spend the next year working on their next album. DLR had enough and wanted to break away on his own project and manage his music on his own time, as well as branch out into some other musical styles EVH wouldn't want anything to do with.

Darlin, that WAS the produced version of the video. Dave wasn't a singer or a musician, he was a showman who sang and played, the ultimate front man.
That is the studio recording. The video was taped on a sound stage but there's plenty of footage from this tour (1986). The song is about the Statue of Liberty on the centennial of the French gifting her to us.

David Lee Roth is a very energetic, flamboyant, and a great showman. He was also in several movies. I think the band was called Van Halen named after the guitarist Eddie Van Halen. Eddie is considered by many to be one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time. I never got into their music, but I used to watch them on MTV back in the day. I'm familiar with a song called Jump which is a little more tame but has similar theatrics. If you do more David Lee Roth I think that might be the way to go. I enjoyed your reaction and your facial expressions made me laugh.
Roth has earned belts in kung-fu, jeet kune Do, karate and has practiced sword fighting for decades.. trained in high-level kenjutsu from which he is considered a master of the six foot staff.. and now lives in Japan where he trained for yrs after leaving Van Halen. Give credit where credit is due, don't sell the man short..

Honestly, even today... David Lee Roth just isn't human. He's absurd, weird and so freaking talented. My understanding is he's a total sweetheart as well. This was after he left Van Halen. He put together sort of a SUPER group. The bass player is considered one of the best of all time... He was in a band called "Mr Big" after this. The guitar player is from another planet.

I read down a few comments, but I didn't see this mentioned, (It might be down below here in the comments), David studied martial arts. He loved doing the jumps etc as part of the show as well as a "sword" he swing around. I went to his Eat'em and smile concert for this album in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. He came in on a suspended surf board above our heads, and he paid to have the venue, civic arena, open it's roof. That was great, all of a sudden there was a nice fall breeze! I checked, it was on September 25, 1986 Pittsburgh, PA; Pittsburgh Civic Arena opening act was Cinderella which also had great songs. I did also attend Van Halen's 5150 tour, their first with Sammy Hagar on May 13, 1986 in Pittsburgh, PA at the now gone Pittsburgh Civic Arena with BTO opening.

It wasn't my first concert but one of the greatest concerts I ever went to was Van Halen in the late seventies on the 4th of July in a very small Arena and it was sweltering hot and people were shooting off fireworks and doing all kinds of crazy shenanigans.
My sister drug me just see them about 4 years later for this and I have to tell you man there's no comparison. They're really early days were just phenomenal something that blows your mind.
Similar to that first Boston album, the first Van Halen album which is self-titled, is regarded as one of the greatest debut albums in rock music history. You can pretty much do anything off of it and get a lot of bang for the buck.

In this song there are only great rock stars playing, but in my opinion David should never have left Van Halen, although in the end he returned, he left at the best moment of the band❤

Love him hate him I can only take him is small doses. Some say he had a martial arts background that's where those moves came from. Myself I'm not entirely convince they seem more like gymnastics/dance/ballet, maybe that wouldn't be a macho thing to admit to... He had quite the rock start stage persona all his own.
