I know how the Cat Bowser fight in the lava course with the many Super Hammers can be cheesed. You can create up to 5 boxes while having the Super Hammer ability by pushing the Control Stick up and pressing the X or Y Button. The boxes can be stacked and this way you can climb over the wall and go to the finish.

There is actually a Speedrun category for all 4 difficulties in Endless. There's also a challenge many people (especially Twitch streamers) are doing. It's called "Iron Bros." where you try to complete 50 levels in Normal without dying, skipping or pausing and so far I think just 1 person has beaten it. There is an earlier challenge before that called the "Nuzlocke" where you try to beat as many levels in Normal (no skip, but this time pausing is allowed), but when you die you change to the next character and so on until you're done. Basically, you can die 4 times

No, you can't run in lava while having a Star. Most likely there were Dash Panels placed under the lava.
And you can shortly hover in the air with a winged Goomba's Shoe. It only works with a Goomba's Shoe that has wings.

You’re doing endless now?! Welp, have fun! Beware of the harder difficulties: they have either levels that troll you, require extreme skill, or might push you into an obstacle right at the beginning if you don’t react quickly. XD
Fun Fact: Super Mario Bros. 3 styled levels are rare to get in the Endless Challenge

BTW, you probably don’t know this, but you know that Super Hammer power-up you used to fight Meowser? Well, you can create blocks (pressing up and B (or Y?) to stand on and could’ve stacked them to cheese that level! XD
