      That's what I was thinking. In a way, it kind of shows how the industry is unwilling to competely let go of old ways and revamp. No one was pressed to hear what someone like Kaia has to say this topic (no shade seriously) but they some how had to shoe horn her in because the industry has picked her as the model of the moment. Vogue you need to hold yourself accountable for all of these experiences they have had. You are one of the biggest media outlets and have a big fashion platform... so are y’all gonna do something or are you gonna keep using emotional trauma of black models for views and likes. Vogue and the modeling industry literally discriminate based on physical appearance. Where are the dark-skinned Mexican indigenous women, dark-skinned Indians, little people, amputees---models with cleft palette, missing teeth, "large" noses, acne, etc.? Only people within a certain mold get picked. All the types of people I listed can be model-worthy. This is the rich and privileged pretending they struggle like us plebs. It's all just rich, relatively thin girls with good skin.

    • @missnoneofyourbusiness
      @missnoneofyourbusiness 4 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      If I remember correctly, in Mexico they used brown indigenous women to catfish on their followers on IG about the time Yalitza Aparicio was popular. They would post a "cover" and hype about the next number and people would go "Oh they're.putting indigenous women on their cover! Yeah!" but then the next print cover was ye olde whitexican model.

    • @GnomeOfArgentina
      @GnomeOfArgentina 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@missnoneofyourbusiness Yeah, I remember that one-off. It's all just quickie pandering, but, at the end of the day, they still stick to a particular type of model.

    • @RoxanneLavender
      @RoxanneLavender 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      A lot of rich people who would buy the pieces are older women as well, not skinny, not tall. So one would think they'd at least try to sell to their biggest customer base, the people most likely to spend $50,000 a pop on a cocktail dress, those older wives of industry tycoons.

    • @Belihoney
      @Belihoney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @@RoxanneLavender those old women WANT to look like the young models though. That's the problem. It's apart of the marketing of the aspirational life style/ look. As women, we have been brainwashed to think that youthful women/ girls is the only beauty that matters or is the highest kind of beauty. The women of that tax bracket have the money to chase it and the chase has become a lifestyle in its self. Its not changing with their generation because they see that look as aspirational and something that they can achieve given their resources. Maybe with ours (I'm a 94 baby) when we get to that age, it will change.

    Why do we divide people by their skin color???

    • @MissRoee
      @MissRoee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @My Subliminal Results No, because we ARE different. Racism, blind or intentional, does exist and when people say they don't see colour or want a world where we don't see colour.... that's part of the problem. You need to see someone's story and acknowledge it and the ways it has shaped their opportunities, treatment and life. Of course we should love everybody, but that happens by seeing their story and their colour, like it's not a bad word or like we all need to blend into one culture. Because when we accept all cultures, we DO all look different and that's beautiful.

      @@MissRoee Nope I respectfully disagree with your 3rd sentence. This might never happen, but I want to live in a world where no "story" would be need to be acknowledged based off the colour of my skin. I want to become very successful without people (1)seeing me as the "black guy" who made it despite all the odds or (2)acknowledging my struggles. I wish I could live in a world where no story would need to be told or acknowledged due to darker skin. I wish darker skin colur was irrelevant to opportunities, treatment and life. IF "colourblind" can give me this then I am all for it.

    Ok, literally this is about ‘Racism and discrimination’ in the Model industry. But funny thing is, there is none ‘Asian’ models on the screen instead appearing some caucasian models. Interesting. Because I believe there is a lot of Asian models who experienced about racism and discrimination more than other models of race.

    I wrote a letter to different magazines about the lack of diversity on their covers. I was OBSESSED with fashion magazines but it was rarrrrrrrrrrre occasion when I would see a woman on the front of it that was a woman of color. For years, during my teenage years, it would be Beyonce, Rihanna, or Halle Berry that had multiple Vogue covers. Mind you, these stars all had the same skin complexion and were three of the many black celebrities that could have been featured. It was so frustrating. Eventually I just stopped buying magazines all together because I couldn’t get past the cover without feeling like “ I “didn’t matter. I think even this video is a trend, because what real change is being made? Vogue, do you really care or was this an opportunity for you to jump on a bandwagon to receive viewers. Although it’s a dope thing to be culturally and racially diverse with your business it still seems to me that it’s more of a “oooh BLM now, let’s join in on this money maker”.
