    This is also a prime example of why you avoid the rubberized undercoating. It'll look black and pretty, but eventually only the rubber coating will remain.

      Yep. Thats the thing with these cars. The sills and floor pan look completely fine until you either try jacking the car up or take a hammer to the underside 😅

    this is by far the best rust battle iv seen , I too have a 2003 MX5 1.8 VVT Sport in the same colour and is in need of some welding , the sills and rails are thankfully solid apart from a little rust hole in the upper rail which will be attended too. its a very strong attachment you get with these little things , glad to see someone making even the bad ones have a 2nd shot

    What decides when to butweld a panel or just as in this video, lay panels ontop and patch holes?

    Fair play for taking it on as a temporary repair. Id recommend using some primer on the bare metal before the stone chip though (either rust encapsulator or epoxy primer) and spray the hell out of the insides with cavity wax afterwards.

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi yes just one of the many jobs destined for the car a covity and underbody Waxoil.
      The gravitex underbody coating can be used with any bare metal primer or any etching coat, in our instant it was put over the rust coat that is etching :)

      @@trevorbilzerian5510 that's no problem that's why we gave it a thumbs up :) all the info add to the content , you were correct and it dose look like bare metal as the rust convertor/etcher is clear and we didn't show covering the entire panel just the cavity :)

      Yes I do and I can tell you for certain it has saved man a car, but it's only as good as the person applying it. My blue rx4 that is on the channel was ziebarted and all it needed was two sill sections when most rx4's had rotted away.

    I don't bother with these any more because people have crazy expectations as to what their "budget" will achieve - they think it's gonna roll out concours when you've explained that for the money they have to spend, it's going to be a patch-job. Even for a "patch-up" like this, the time involved is massive - and time costs - I now just go buy a rusty vehicle that's worth a lot more rust free & make it rust free in a way that suits me - as in properly.
    We work identically when doing fast repairs btw - it's like watching a video of me fixing rust to a budget - down to the seal over the welds, schutz, same way of forming the steel - same tools, same welder, same hand movements. Nice work - proper in as far as proper is possible on a tight budget.. :-)
