My bad cholesterol was “borderline” high my doctor prescribed me statin. I refused to take them and modified my lifestyle, my next visit he saw some improvement in the bloodwork he thought the medicine was working, when I told him I wasn’t taken it he gave me a lecture on how this medicine is helping everyone live longer. I changed doctors after that.

I had the same experience. My cholesterol readings had been good over a 7 year period. I had one borderline high reading and was put on statins. I immediately tossed the pills and made some dietary and exercise changes, not even dramatic ones, next reading and from then on....fine. I am very suspicious of these long term "maintenance drugs" being prescribed where there isn't an underlying condition and non prescription drug options haven't been tried.

I had a cardiologist prescribe me 2 different heart medicines for the rest of my life after 2 visits and about 5 minutes of combined FaceTime. The front desk admin told me I had cardiomyopathy. Long story short, went to a new doctor, got an MRI and I was completely healthy. Always get a second opinion.
Edit: Thanks for all the replies, lots of good information. To clarify, I didn’t mean iPhone FaceTime that was a typo lol. I meant I spoke with the doctor face to face for a combined 5 minutes. Both doctors did ECGs etc. The second doctor did not bad mouth the first doctor nor did they reference their diagnoses, simply ran their own and double checked with the MRI just to see if there was anything at all. Originally went in because of palpitations most likely caused from stress and shortness of breath I used to get from smoking weed (I tried to tell the first doctor I only become short of breath when smoking weed). It’s been over 6 months and I’m running 3 miles a day healthy as can be it seems. No palpitations.

you all need to take responsibility for your own health. How many people are going to eat vegetables, cut out red meat and lose weight? Doctors only prescribe statins because americans are lazy. 90% of the people they see aren't going to make lifestyle changes so the statins help prevent them from dying from heart attack. After a week or two of taking them, she became crippled resulting in her having to use a walking stick and really struggling to walk. Soon after, it was almost immediate, her mobility fully recovered and she lived until she was 92.

The Dr then gave her a " multivitamin " my grandfather reads it after she had been taken it 3 weeks. It was oral chemotherapy. He calls the Dr who admitted he gave her chemotherapy and told her it was vitamins because she wasn't capable of making her own decisions. He didn't notify family. She drove herself to the Dr!
4 days after my grandfathers discovery, she died. The family demanded an autopsy. Strange for a 92 year old! The cancer wasn't what killed her. She died of liver failure because of the drug. The Dr killed her. He resigned and left the state when contacted by the Medical Board.

I can't wait for AI doctors to replace human Dr.s... who seem to be robotically prescribing unnecessary pharmaceuticals anyway, based on the "best practices" (path of least legal resistance) guidelines, developed by big pharma in the first place... as with Purdue Pharma and the Opioid epidemic, suing Dr.s that wouldn't prescribe them, because they went against the "accepted best practices".
Listen to Dr. Drew Pinsky's take on Purdue, "Best Practices", lawsuits, and the beginning of the Opioid epidemic.
Not to mention they were trying (and probably still are) to "fortify" our foods with Statins during C19, under the guise of "best practices", because people were less likely to visit a doctor, so they thought they would just bring the "relatively harmless" Statins to the masses instead... by forcing it into the food supply.

This reminds me of an exchange with my cardiologist recently. I had been on Keto for a number of months and my regular clinician said I could quit taking my BP and statin meds since all my blood work looked really good and it probably wasn't necessary to be on them any more. When I went to the cardiologist, for another unrelated issue, he asked why I had stopped taking the meds and I told him that I had made changes to my diet in order to rid myself of having to deal with the heart meds (and other meds like Glipizide) because of their side effects. He said something like, "well that's all well and good, but you really need to be on a statin, regardless". (I should have told him at that point that I had a heart attack while on a statin.) Before the visit, I had done some research about statins, cholesterol etc, and asked him if a slightly elevated LDL level was necessarily a bad thing. He then cited some study (what's name I can't recall at the moment) that had really nothing to do with the efficacy of statins at all and he made it sound like that was definitive proof and reason that I should be back on the meds...period. End of discussion. I was a bit disappointed at that point, relented and let him write the script. I decided that I would go back on them temporarily and do a bit more research before the follow-up. Meanwhile, the new BP med he prescribed was making me dizzy, and I decided to stop taking it after 2 days. I also found a study online concerning the effects of statins on reducing CoQ10 which I learned was an essential enzyme for heart function. I printed it out and brought it with me for the follow up visit. The first thing he asked was if I was taking the meds he scripted. I said that the beta blocker was making me dizzy, so I ceased taking it and although I started back on the statin, had some serious reservations about continuing them and showed him the printout of the study I had found. He took a short glance at it, handed it back to me, dismissing it as something akin to media hype, restated his old talking points from our last visit and then re-emphasized that I needed to be back on a statin and beta blocker. I then restated that the damn beta blocker was making me dizzy. He snapped back, "Then just take half a tablet every day!" To finish it off I stated again my reservations about the statins. At this point, he took on a defensive tone, got rather "huffy", and said, "well if you don't want to take the meds, I'll just put in your record that you refused the meds...I'm a cardiologist and I take a statin!" In my own mind at that point, I decided that this guy was never going to be empathetic to the needs and concerns of his patient and let him write the scripts again. Only this time, I drove past the pharmacy, went home and threw the beta blocker and the statin in the trash and haven't looked back.

He became stupefied, there were so many prescriptions they gave him without my knowledge. They told me it was "standard of care" after he passed and I questioned them. To over drug the elderly is standard of care? We're a shameful country 😢

I had a heart attack at 39. Cardiologist put me on a statin.
He said I didn't have cholesterol issues, but he was putting me on them anyway to help my heart.
So, I was like "doc knows best" and went along with it.
Anyway about 6-8 mos later I had heard that statins caused kidney issues even up to cancer.
I asked my primary care doc, on a visit about what i had heard about statins, and he confirmed that they can indeed cause issues.
So I asked why they would prescribe something like that, he said "because the benefits outweigh the risk".
I told him I wanted off of them and he said "You can't go off them ever"
I told him the Cardiologist said I didn't have high cholesterol...
    And he prescribed em anyway...
Anyway, long story short I quit taking them anyway.
A few years later, I was talking to a female friend who was 27, and she had a checkup with her doc on a reg routine visit, they had done some bloodwork on her and her cholesterol was a bit high, so they prescribed her a statin...didn't coach her on diet or anything just prescribed it to her.
Never telling her that cholesterol levels change daily depending on what you eat etc...
It's like they just give them to everyone no matter what.
    It's crazy.

I came home from overseas and was horrified at how much medication they had him on that was completely unnecessary. I told my Nana to stop all the medication and the diet immediately, start giving him some healthy fats and less sugar, and get a new doctor. New doctor, confirmed what I said. The former requires at least aspirin and with his history he probably should be on aspirin, an ace inhibitor as they reduce scar-formation in the damaged heart muscle (protect the kidney and reduce the blood pressure a bit) and then it depends what caused the heart attack.
If he is on no medication he will just have heart attacks later on and likely with bypasses, has no alternativ blood vessels left if anything goes wrong.

Statins reduce the risk but if you already have atherosclerosis and your cardiovascular system is damaged from years of foods high in saturated fat & bad ldl cholesterol and maybe smoking on top of that, then medications & surgery might not be enough and it will certainly not fix your cardivascular system and make it brand new like when you where young, the body can regenerate to a certain extent but certain permanent damage can't really be fixed with modern medicine or in any other way.

I started researching now this was 20 years ago. I came across a video made by Stephanie Seneff she was a leading researcher at MIT. she stated that she was not a fan of statins because of the effects on the muscles in your body. Basically, she said it dissolves them overtime. What is the biggest muscle in your body ? your heart. I threw them all away, and I’ve never look back. I will never take that crap ever ever again. In the UK the government/NHS have told Doctors to prescribe more statins. Don't know the exact reason. I saw my Doctor for a problem and she ordered blood tests. The result of my H1c was 6. This used to be the upper normal level but now its been lowered to 5.7.
The Doctor wanted to prescribe statins for me. I said no and she got quite huffy. I knew about the side affects and the relatively low returns. I have permanent AF and take blood thinners otherwise my heart and vessels are fine. I've had cardioversion twice but I revert to AF quite quickly. I’m prescribed a lot of meds I just don’t want to take & skip doses to feel more alert. Some meds have red flag warnings to not take them together. So why wouldn’t they find alternative options? I hurt more when I skip what I have to skip just to take something else but I mentally feel better. I feel this cocktail of meds will lead to a shorter life expectancy. It's all a big scam that has been baked into the very fundamental premises of the practice of medicine and medical education going all the way back into the Rockefeller oil barons in the early 20th century when they were looking to create new markets for petroleum derivatives, which were virtually the entire basis of the new and expanding chemical industry at the time. Under the guise of philanthropy, they used their massive wealth from their oil money to start offering grants of tens of millions of dollars to every major American university or college that had a medical program on campus - huge gifts that would fund the endowments of these schools for generations to come - but conditional on having "proper input and oversight" (control) over their educational curriculums for doctors in training, which allowed them to completely reshape the entire field of medicine and its underlying philosophy in just a few generations, pushing the field away from its naturalistic roots stretching all the way back to figures of the ancient world like Hippocrates, which focused on healthy lifestyle, hygiene, nutrition, and centuries-old natural herbal remedies brought over by the colonists from Europe in addition to those inherited from the Native Americans, and pushing the field towards "anatomical medicine" and "chemical medicine." I.e. using surgeries to cut things out of the anatomy whenever they became dysfunctional (which made money via the patenting of procedures and medical tools or machines) instead of figuring out how to make them functional again; and treating the symptoms of disease with exogenous, artificial chemical agents (which made money via the patenting of "drugs") instead of figuring out how to address the root causes of the disease state causing the symptoms.

I’m sorry to anyone who loses a loved one, and especially when young. I had a relative who’s doctor told him to take a statin but he didnt want to fill it and he died from a heart attack in his 50’s.
My point is that millions of us live unhealthy lifestyles, sometimes out of our control to an extent, and heart attacks are very very common. Therefore just because someone is prescribed statins and still dies young does not mean they harmed that person. Most people are advised to change their lifestyle before they are out on the drugs but people have habits and changing diet and exercise etc is clearly challenging… just look at all the people that are obese or have any other unhealthy habit.

I decided not to take it.(My doctor was not happy). Many decades later, I am still healthy and have no sign of CVD. Seen a cardiologist a few years back and my calcium level is not even traceable and no sign of any CVD, other than the high cholesterol level. I am not in fear any longer. I am glad he is standing his ground on this issue. Great job.

Kinda in the same boat here. I inherited from my family and always score high on my choesterol labs. I've been on/off statins for years, and all I know is when I am on them...I am tired, my ankles/knees/ (and sometimes elbow joints) ache daily. I'm 53yo, 5' 10", 225 lbs and excericise a bit more than average. I don't smoke, and while my diet isn't the best....it isn't the worst either. I do try and eat more fish and vegetables, and may only drink on weekends. I have been living in fear becuase my grandfather had a heart attack, my mom has high blood pressure, my grandmother had faulty heart valves....but TBH, I think I'm in better shape than the three of them. But it does stick in my mind daily that I think I am a candidate for a Heart Attack based on family history., and thus got sucked into the idea that Statins were my shield.....Now I'm rethinking that.

The result is I still have high cholesterol, but now my HDL is high and triglycerides are low. On the Framingham study I score a low risk.
My CAC score is zero and at 58 years old that likely means I do not have soft plaques, as they would have hardened by now. I've never taken a statin, nor do I intend to. Fortunately my doctor agrees that despite high cholesterol, there are no apparent issues.

He did take a lot of meds to keep his vessels open in his later years but lived a fairly normal life until about a year before he died. He had pretty much quit seeing a cardiologist because there was nothing else they could do for him. He died at the age of 87. And he died from metastatic bladder cancer and not from his heart. He had had his bladder removed and a urostomy at age 80. And survived that surgery plus the surgery to remove a cancer tumor from his skull at 86.

He reluctantly agreed. Her memory returned... and 11 years later her memory remains good and she remains off statins. It is devastating to see the amount of people at her aged care home who have memory loss or dementia. The link between polypharmacy and memory loss in the elderly is established. My dad had a heart issue that was created from being on dialysis, and battling MRSA in his body, for so many years. He had a heart procedure and they immediately put him on statins. That was the standard. He began to have all kinds of “dementia” symptoms, hallucinations, and completely out of his head. In researching, I told the doctors they had to take him off the statins! He didn’t HAVE HIGH CHOLESTEROL, and the statins were lowering his cholesterol that didn’t need to be lowered. They brought him in and ran all kinds of tests. Tried to diagnose him with dementia. I argued back - NO! It’s the lack of cholesterol to his brain! After weeks of hospitalization and tests run, etc. they listened and took him off the statins. He IMMEDIATELY came back to us and his mind was restored. I couldn’t BELIEVE the doctors had not listened and were so ignorant to this problem of prescribing statins to someone who doesn’t have cholesterol issues. 🤦🏻‍♀️

You’re aware in the weeks before Lipitor hit the market, the level at which cholesterol was considered too high was changed from 300 to 200. I had issues from Lipitor almost as soon as I started taking it, but I attributed all these side affects to the small strokes I got from COVID Delta infection. Swallowing difficulties, muscle stiffness, nosebleeds, dry eyes, stiffness in my eyes abilities to look up and left and right, sleeplessness, fatigue. I was on atorvastatin for almost two years. I started feeling these weird vibrations in my body at night especially, I could hardly hold a pen and write, I felt shaky when I stood up. I literally felt like my nerves and heart were about to quit. I , too, had to tell the doc, it’s the damn Lipitor and I just told him I’m stopping it. He did some blood tests and my liver enzymes were 5 times the normal level. Liver doctor said I had MILI- medication induced liver injury. 3 moths later I am feeling much better although it’s not all back to normal yet. The more people I talk to, the more I learn these statins cause a LOT of problems. I added Ubiquinol CoQ10, high dose vitamin C and D on my own. The doctors gave me an autoimmune problem with a tetanus booster 22 years ago which has been a nightmare in and of itself. You wouldn’t believe how many adverse reactions to vaccines there are. I tell my doctor what I’m doing when I see him, but I do a lot of research from serious medical sites and I really don’t think I can harm myself anymore than these doctors who have almost caused me to die twice in 20 years. No freaking way was I going to take the COVID clot shot on their advice either. All those having reactions- I’ve been there. They can’t undo it. I feel for those reluctant to take it but forced to for employment’s sake. Those mandating an experimental shot and got symptoms after haranguing those leery- you reaped what toy sowed and I have zero sympathy for you. I have heard several people tell me stories similar to your dad’s. The brain needs cholesterol, your myelin nerve sheaths need cholesterol. Your heart is a muscle and needs cholesterol. Big pharm doesn’t look for cures- they want you to suffer so they make money.

This guy is spot on. I was prescribed a statin after a cardiologist looked at my LDL and EKG results and visiting with me for a matter of 5min with an incredible amount of urgent concern. He wanted me to start this statin ASAP before we even scheduled a stress test and heart monitoring. As a 42yo female who is very active, this seemed very alarming that he didn’t bother to ask this about me or about my diet before going straight to a statin. My BS meter was through the roof with this guy. I contacted a friend who happened to be a surgeon and he referred me to another cardiologist he trusted with his mother. This guy looked at my labs, talked with me in detail about my lifestyle observations and concerns. He had me complete an MRI and other cardiac imaging. Results were I was very healthy and no need to be on a statin and to just keep an eye on things with a 6 lead ekg device. In short know yourself and trust your gut, especially when it comes to industrial medical complex.

Breakfast-Cut out toast and meat with your 3 eggs and add vegetables to make a scramble.
Lunch- buy pre mixed salad bags and add a handful to a container with a couple slices of turkey and pack some dressing. Go easy on dressing. Bring 5 crackers of some kind. Apple, banana for snack.
Dinner- small portion of chicken (1 thigh or 1/2 a breast with air fried vegetables. No rice, no potatoes, no bread. Add a salad if you need more.
Desert if needed 1 oatmeal cookie.
The trick is to not combine bad carbs with the proteins.
    Avoid restaurants and fast food.
Eat at home. Buy organic greens and grass fed beef.

@@Anon-xd3cf Of course. Thank you for asking.
      Open AI fact check -
No, it is not correct to say that 80% of cholesterol is due to genetics rather than diet. While genetics can play a role in cholesterol levels, the exact contribution of genetics vs. diet can vary widely from person to person.
Several studies have estimated that genetics contribute around 40-60% of the variation in total cholesterol levels among individuals. This means that the remaining variation in cholesterol levels is due to other factors, including diet, physical activity levels, and other lifestyle factors.
It is important to note that even if someone has a genetic predisposition to high cholesterol levels, they can still make dietary and lifestyle changes to manage their cholesterol levels and reduce their risk of heart disease. Eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding smoking are all important steps that can be taken to manage cholesterol levels and reduce cardiovascular risk, regardless of underlying genetic factors.
No, the Framingham study did not find that the risk of heart disease was only seen for people with cholesterol over 300.
The Framingham Heart Study is a significant ongoing study that was started in 1948 to investigate the factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease. In the early years of the study, high cholesterol levels were found to be a strong predictor of cardiovascular disease risk. This helped establish cholesterol as an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
Over time, the Framingham study and other research have shown that the relationship between cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risk is more complex than originally thought. While having high cholesterol levels is still an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, other factors, such as inflammation and other lifestyle factors can also contribute to cardiovascular risk. Additionally, the specific threshold for what is considered "high" cholesterol levels and the exact level at which cardiovascular risk increases may vary according to an individual's overall health and medical history.
Therefore, it is not accurate to say that the Framingham study found that the risk of heart disease only occurs in people with cholesterol over 300, as this oversimplifies the study findings and does not reflect our current understanding of the relationship between cholesterol and cardiovascular disease risk.
No, most of the people with high cholesterol in the Framingham study did not have familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). Familial hypercholesterolemia is a relatively rare genetic disorder that causes extremely high levels of LDL or "bad" cholesterol from birth.
The Framingham study was a population study that investigated the relationship between various risk factors and the development of cardiovascular disease. While it did not specifically focus on FH, it did find that high levels of LDL cholesterol are a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease in the general population.
While some individuals with high cholesterol levels in the Framingham study may have had genetic factors that contributed to their cholesterol levels, the majority were likely due to dietary and lifestyle factors, such as consuming excess saturated and trans fats, being inactive, and being overweight or obese. These factors are known to contribute to higher levels of LDL cholesterol, which can increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease over time.

Of course not, what you are taught has to do with selling big Pharma drugs, whether needed or not needed, or harmful to patients. Read the short book ‘The Nature of Scientific Revolutions’ by Thomas Kuhn, it reveals how the accepted hypothesis in any field is extremely difficult to overturn, even when the evidence overwhelmingly shows it to be wrong. classic example is Galileo, followed by Semmelweis centuries later on the need to wash hands before delivering babies so physicians would not pass infections to women.
many examples today: vaccines will save you (Read Turtles All the Way Down), statins prevent heart attacks (while destroying your health) and much more. Beware of what you are taught, listen to your patients, look at contrary evidence.Learn about nutrition and vitamins. May God help you on your journey…

Yeah well after peeking what’s behind the curtain and see disorder chaos, docs following order from pharmaceuticals reps. Yeah no. $$. I told myself I was not going to be a part of that. Helping them see as many patients as possible to Rx as many pills etc.. Quit my cardiology job and never looked back.

YOur typical patient will have 4 to 6, I seen 15 medications. What is bad is drug companies never tested all those med interacting with other meds. The patients come to see me for strange symdrome that their Dr cant figure out. And it always the medications that is the root of the problem and damaging their health but Dr will never state the side efects because of liability. Some patients get so bad from medication that they bleed in stomach & stools & causes cirrhosis , and Dr will blackmail the patient so not risk liability.

I have a friend who is 90 years old, never sick, never had heart disease except for high BP in her 70s. She has some skin issues. Fair skinned. She has had a cholesterol of over 600. She walks and ran daily for years, watched her diet. She takes her BP pills and that was all she has ever had. So did her mother. Her mother lived to be over 100. Had high BP but that was all. She has decided, following her husband's death, to live in an assisted living. She is doing great. Memory intact. She is a reader, attends church regularly, associates with her education peers who also are at the same facility.

My husband was on one statin that caused severe muscle pain. The second one affected his memory and caused confusion.
He doesn’t take any now and is back to normal.

I'm extremely grateful to Drs Abrahamson and Malhotra for their courage in standing by their work. I was put on statins and quickly developed muscle pains that prevented me from going for walks, brain fog and memory problems, and attacks of acute breathlessness. The breathlessness is a known side-effect of statins like the others, but less common. So my quality of life was greatly reduced and I couldn't exercise or think. I stopped the statins and quickly recovered. My doctor started me on a different statins, said it didn't have side-effects, but the side-effects were back in a week. I stayed off the statins for a few weeks then, and went to tell the Dr that I would stay off. He persuaded me that there was one further type that would not cause side effects and put me on a low dose. A few days later I'm gasping for breath and can't remember anything. I can't live like that. I can't walk anywhere, and I can't do anything. If he really wants to keep prescribing then OK, but I'm not swallowing them.

I’m an FNP and I had a cardiologist once tell me that he feels every single person needs to be on a statin daily and that he himself was taking a statin even though he was normal weight, had no risk factors.
