This is a beautiful maple. I love the branching. And the trim really brought out the trunk.

Good base level work David. Need those initial bones to build a finer structure on down the road!

@@2588ryand now it’s late spring and I start working on them again. I don’t touch them from late winter to late spring. Let them push new growth and be healthy.

Great video again David. Wanted to ask if it would be worth doing in the next growing season a defoliation to bring on some possible new shoots\buds in those areas that Need branches to fill in those gaps ?.. I found when I did it there were an abundance new shoots/buds as well as the new leaves at the same time. Double bonus ! Keep the vids coming, you always do a great job. Thanks 🙏

@@chris996ss yes I will be encouraging this tree to back bud and push as much inner growth as possible. I’ve cut back hard so it should help with back budding this year. I will feed heavily now and partially defoliate next year. I’ll keep trimming the maple this year to push inner buds as well.

Aussie Dave here David, nice video 😊. I'll use your technique on my Japanese maple 😊. Can I use the same technique on my trident maple also. 🤔

Great video! Just wondering what your recommendation would be for placement of JMs during the aussie summer period? Due to the layout of my house I don't have a suitable area for full sun all day (can't put up a sun shade for reasons sadly). I do have 2 spots - my standard spot gets morning sun and then covered by shade/roof from the afternoon (say about 2pm onwards), while the other spot gets no morning sun but full sun basically 2-3pm onwards.
I've got 1 JM that gets a prolonged duration of sun compared to the other 5 (which are all very healthy and green), and it seems to be taking a hit with the leaf tips browning a bit while the foliage itself is turning yellow. The leaves are not crispy and I do water it daily especially on hot summer days. Any tips on placement or ideas on why this might be happening? It is being fertilised as well and basically under the same condition as the other 5 JMs so I'm thinking maybe it's getting too much sun? I have doubts that the issue is overwatering.
    Cheers

@@antonlab definitely the first spot you mentioned is better with morning sun and then shaded in the afternoon. I can water usually 4 times a day in summer and it’s all about keeping up the watering if you have to place it in full sun. I’ve found I can have Japanese maple is full sun but need to water 4 times a day to stop is from burning. Hope that helps

Not sure it's potted at the wright angle or correct or correct view .The top wright hand side needs to be reduced so it's lower . One high apex one low for it to be correct .
