They flew right over the defense bunker and radar warning with four AAA placements. There was so much reenforced concrete in them they couldn't be destroy with bombs. In fact one is still standing because of the difficulty and expense to remove it. Good reminder of the horror of the time. Let us all work to make sure this never happens again. There just has to be a better way.
I can't answer about this particular one but I know that at least one or two still exist in Berlin, same for Vienna. If I remember correctly, there is also (or was) one or more in Hamburg and perhaps another city. Many have been re-purposed for living or office spaces or built around as monuments to the war. And yes, you are correct, these formidable towers are exceedingly expensive to destroy and so not much effort was made - certainly, this would not have been a priority in those decades immediately after the war, with so much to clear & (re)build.
It’s the Friedrichshain bunker. The Soviets made several attempts to blow it up which damaged it but eventually the easiest way to deal with it was to heap it over with bomb site rubble. It looks like a park with a large hill in it now.
I think that’s the Friedrichshain flak tower which ended up in the Russian sector. They partly destroyed it and built up the surrounding park with bomb site rubble. Only the very top of one of the corners is visible today. The Zoo tower was the only one fully demolished at enormous cost by the British & the Humbolthain tower was only half destroyed due to its proximity to the rail network. The latter is very visible today although the southern side was also built up with rubble to form a park. You can walk up to the top and there are tours by arrangement inside the remains. The utter devastation to central Berlin shown here gives some indication of the utter horror civilians must have endured.
weird the residential areas looked more kaput than the industrial section that got cut out near the end they showed only a bit of industrial works than it cut back to the homes and churches
All videos, gut gemacht! Better to not use the music though, just leave the false film projector sound. What a waste of massive, massive unfathomable amounts of human labor... war is...
I had no idea that Berlin was destroyed to that capacity. That must of been a Hell Hole. I guess they asked for it. Imagine the innocent children that suffered. Germans and Jewish.

3:56 running horizontally must be Landsberger Allee then.
berlinteo Thanks. We have added your comments to the annotations.
Around 3:12, the bunker with the flak emplacements. Does that still exist? I heard they used so much concrete that it couldn't be demolished.

The destruction is beyond belief, not one undamaged building left, and look at the city now. Incredible. No more war. NEVER AGAIN.
We will never forget . Hope for more peace human rights love and understanding on earth .
Keep up your work. I am in Berlin. If I find the time I will have a look.

Just horrible what someone so evil caused.
