- lois maxwell guest stars in the episode 'interlude in venice' in 1966. because her work as miss moneypenny in the bond films is so well known, this scene demonstrates the difference between the melodramatic expressiveness of moore's first show and the tighter, colder 007 storytelling, where it's all about The Hero, and others in the story -- both women and men -- are in his shadow (cuz they're childishly stupid).

@darknessbydesign some of the same pigeons appeared in casino royale. makeup and trick photography are used. they're actually african grey parrots, which can live 70 years, with good catering. most people know these parrots from their SFX work. they make a lot of the sounds in british movies & tv, including the background chatter and clinks of coffee cups in this scene.
That back projection is pretty striking.
Keep expecting someone to pop out of a coffin wielding a knife 😂

During this filming was taken, the Venice water was clean clear. Now the water looks polluted and not clean clear anymore. Sad wasn't it? Maybe due to the dense porpulations around. I never knew that Monney Penny had appeared in The Saint before. They have known for a very long time before James Bond.

I wish they would do a remake movie of *this* Saint. A thief who steals from thieves. Just that.
white-hat con artist stories have kind of taken over from robin hood characters i think. my favorite is 'leverage' where they do have a high tech thief character (like the later post-mission-impossible-movie versions of simon) but most of the leverage story is about the team social engineering the (awful) mark, how the saint used to do it.
but the thing is you don't get the jaunty stuff, like simon hopping aboard a stranger's yacht, or his knowing grin & deep contacts getting him into the heart of a powerful family's private business. i don't know if people would believe in a character like that anymore. someone too marvelous to refuse.

So what? Did Lois Maxwell enjoy being upstaged? Lois was beautiful, but they always put her in the same films (Like Bond films) with better looking women. I know she's playing the girl's stepmother, but still. Upstaged much, Moneypenny?

Roger Moore and Lois Maxwell were both born in 1927 and when appeared together in The Saint they were 37-38 and by time they starred together in Live and Let Die were both 45 and 57 by the time they made last appearance together as James Bond and Miss Moneypenny in A View To Kill.
People's life expectancies have risen over the generations, affected by diet and health practices; smoking and drinking were very chic back then. Sometimes fashion and makeup might make someone look more mature as well. But those two also lived in interesting times when a number of actors had some form of military service in their background; I imagine that kind of experience will age someone along.
