I have to warn you that I have no formal automotive training, and have just learned by breaking stuff. If you can learn anything from my mistakes then great, but you do so at your own risk!

Great honest video. I did not know about the safety drain banjo union. I presume, because this was blocked the water then got passed the other oil seal and into the engine. I had a new pump fitted 2 years ago and now losing water with water in the oil. The van is going into a VW specialist, i like to know what's what, so I can understand what they are doing or miss. Thanks for explaining this, your honest John approach and dialogue is great.

I have a 1997 VW TRANSPORTER, I had an accident and left the cap off the water and she dried out, I stopped as soon as the red light came on.
But ever since, she is losing water , oil is fine and no sign of leaks, can't think what wrong, I drive for around an hour and the water is near empty.
      Any idea what is ?
I am in Spain and need to drive back to Britain.

@@inserter400 . If you can't see a visible water leak, my first thought would be head gasket or a head problem? Especially if it overheated. I'm really sorry to hear about your issues and hope you get it sorted out and get home ok 🤞.

I did not expect this outcome. Does this mean the next step is changing the waterpump or just a refurbishement of the seals?!

Hi Fred, I'm planning on replacing it the water pump. I've ordered one from Autodoc.

@@LarcsWorkshop no other conclusion for a possible cause? That would be good news!

@@frednetherlands887 . Well it's definitely one cause, hopefully the only one🤞. I can only confirm it with another pressure test with the new pump fitted.

Very common on these engines, hopefully it hasn't been getting mixed in with the oil too long. Nice colour van by the way.
