I worked at a GT shop in the 90's. I always wanted a front GT hub. a couple years ago i scored a 1998 Avalanche LE with the black GT front hub. bike was stock except had 2003 XT rear der and deore crank with newer style BB chain and cassette. The Avalanch Le was my dream bike and after 23 years I own one almost mint and snagged it for 250 bucks. it had been sitting since 2003 in a heated garage.

Excellent find! Check this video if it links (or search under our channel for my Cinelli ATB) as it sounds a similar scenario… m.th-cam.com/video/WM7-zJeG6L4/w-d-xo.html

It is one of the best xc frame GT ever made.
It was clearly ahead of its time, back then. It works.🎉
    There is a Titanium version.

    Great review.
Just to clarify, even though the production date was October of 97, that's actually a '98 frameset.
You can tell by the integrated seat collar with the 5mm pinch bolt, the "Triple Triangle" sticker and the machining done on the headtube area.
The '97 frames did not have those features then.

you are correct as it also has the disc tabs on the judy sl. I have a 1998 Avalanch le with same fork and seat collar. only year they made a 6061 avalanche. we called them baby Zaskars.

I couldn't agree more GT Zaskar 👍. I have a 91 Saracen Frenzy alloy, dual suspension MTB. Original Rock Shox Judy T2's used regular. Enjoyed the vlog thanks for sharing 👍.

😂Good one bro everyone knows the 91 Saracen Frenzy double suspension is an unbelievably poorly designed produced and resulted in the worst looking and performing bike ever. You’re funny bro

@@azovandy14.88 LOL that made me laugh so you are "Everyone". I have many other bikes which mark out cycling history. Every one entitled to their own opinion the Saracen has been well used and best of all it was free 👍 You're funny too.

I bought mine as a wannabee single speed with all the old components. I hand polished the frame and put fresh stickers on it and put all the gears and cranks back on it then I put regular forks on it rather than the crappy shock that they had put on it. Stiff as heck but I used to just ride it on nice days on bike paths
    I paid $200 for it

I have an early 90s 7005 series Aluminum GT Avalanche. It's stiffer than a cinder block! It's nice though.

If I’m not mistaken this is a bike I built and sold to a chap about a year or so called Andy who was from Bristol I think.
    It’s a 98 model not 97.
