I have a solar power system set up for a 6.2kWp grid-tied system, and it's really worth it. My electric bill is between 2 to 3 thousand a month from a supposed 15-18k monthly bill. I'm on net metering too. One of the biggest mistakes that I made was when I only opted for grid-tied, and now I am planning to upgrade it to a Hybrid System with a battery. For those of you who are planning to install solar, please do so. It was Slater Young who helped me decide, not only on the installation of the solar power system but also on the construction of our dream home. Thanks, Slater!

ang ganda ng solar system, this can be a big change for the Philippines if ever maging malawakang project ito ng bansa. maganda at malaking tulong para sa lahat, makakatipid talaga
This isn’t hate speech but a fact check. The solar energy system has been known for ages. If governments genuinely prioritized citizens' welfare, they would have made renewable energy accessible long ago. But instead, they favor big players-the large energy and oil companies. As a result, only the wealthy can currently afford solar power. I don’t have anything against the rich; I’m also working hard to achieve financial success. One day, I hope to afford solar power, not just for myself but to help my community, especially during power outages caused by disasters.
13:45 yes and no. go strictly grid tied if for example may mga tao sa bahay during daytime at binubuksan ang mga aircon. go with hybrid or with a battery if you're going to use aircon in the night/during sleep
You really have to invest a lot for the set up. I hope it's really worth it. Our government should really consider looking at the benefits of solar power amd focus on using alternative sources of energy to lessen our electricity bills. Thank you Slater Young for sharing and more power!
The problem is the price upfront. Realisically speaking only the upper class and businesss would save a lot on electricity bill. Normal houshold wont ble able to afford this kind of setup.
yes and no. there are installers for the rich but it can also be really cheap like those people with a small solar setup who doesn't own land and not connected to utility.
13:42 Huawei should correct you on this. The batteries in your Huawei product use LFP cells. In short, it has "at least" 10 years of useful or cycle life.
It might be 6-7 years if you are expecting to use 100 % DoD. Normally for LFP Chemistries you're looking at 80 - 90 % DoD. Again the DoD figure depends on the Specifics. Also you have to take into consideration the climate. It's more humid in the Philippines than here for us in ZA. so that greatly reduces their lifetime.
We also use the hybrid setup with around 8kwh hybrid system and smart batteries. Halos mag zero bill nadin kami even though gumagamit na kami ng dalawang 2.5hp aircon daily at 3 small .5 hp aircon. During night blackout gamit na gamit din si battery 🙂
We have a 6kw system JA + Huawei with 30kw Luna battery back up. (Initially grid-tied lang pero nag hybrid na inverter na kami para minsanang gastos sa labor and stuff, added batteries during a week long power outage a year ago since may konting disposable naman kami) Our monthly bill is -600 to -1300 pesos a month, with air conditioning 24/7. Hybrid setup, battery is only used during outages. At night we consume the power back from Meralco which was “deposited” during daytime. Net zero kami and all our appliances are inverter, energy star, LED lighting etc. We produce around 21kw of power a day and consume just 15-17kw. The most we spent is pay a carpenter 500 pesos to mop our solar panels twice a year. The battery isn’t used much so projection for lifespan is around 15 - 20 years which is fine with us vs buying a big generator and liters of fuel just to keep our life running smoothly during typhoons and such. If magpapakabit ka palang, please, might as well pay a bit more for a hybrid inverter kasi for sure gugustuhin nyong magpakabit ng batteries, it’s life changing plus minsanang aberya and gastos nalang.
Idk bakit maraming mas ginugusto yung hybrid or mag pa upgrade ng hybrid, kasi sobrang efficient niya and reliable. Yes totoo din naman kasi na yan na yung pinaka "best" upgrade na pwede natin makuha sa solar powered system but initially hindi talaga siya budget friendly. If you're just looking for something to cut down your bill or atleast minimize the cost then I suggest yung grid tie na lang muna kasi bukod na mas mura siya, hindi ka na mamomorblema pa sa battery or maintenance and even sa replacement. Hindi ka na talo sa grid tie setup with net metering lalo na kung business owner ka at yung business mo malakas kumain ng kuryente. Totoong mas mabilis roi mo niyan lalo na kung may business ka like laundry, etc
Another informative and worth-the-time videos, I love how he easily explains a complicated topic and you never get bored until you finish the video. BTW I know you cover engineering related topics but if you can also tackle money growing techniques like time deposit vs regular savings vs Pag-ibig Savings :)
SPS user here for 3 years. Meron lang akong Off-Grid/Double-Throw set-up. 1kW Solar Panels with 5kW-hr LifePo4 battery. Ako na ng design and set up sa lahat, with one helper I hired. So far, total cost I have is around 75KPhp. 60% of the cost comes from the battery. From having an electric bill of 3-4.5K per month, nasa 350-700Php nlang ngayon. Dahil may battery, may kuryente ako kahut brownout. Just pointing out that what he's doing is a very good investment. Especially, if ikaw mismo gagawa.
Thanks for sharing this informative video! It's great to learn more about solar energy. However, I couldn't help but notice at 1:55 there's exposed wiring between the solar arrays. In the US, it's standard practice to enclose PV wires in EMT conduit to comply with building codes and ensure safety. Considering the investment made, it's surprising the contractor overlooked this crucial detail.
ROI depends on how much energy u use, the sun, efficiency of your panels, inflation and how much the energy company is willing to pay for your energy. Dito sa Australia it takes 10yrs+ to get ROI. Unlike sa pinas na laging may araw and 2 seasons lang. So sulit talaga magpa solar sa pinas.
Im from singapore, im so envy with those who can install solar panels and make use of sun for free energy in the long run. I stay in public housing, the govt here install solar panels but charge us market rate. There is no way for us to enjoy for those living in public housing here!
Me i will go for grid tied first. I am ok to have brown out. Its not always. Plus my house is just gonna be around 150sqm and will be a efficient house that i dont have to always turn on my AC. If i have a budget already after i got my roi for solar panel maybe i will just add battery enough to power lights and charge phones and internet and water pump. I think that is the most practical way to have solar. Efficient house plus lots of solar. Then just battery for emergencies enough to cover basic neccessity needs.
If you're in a relatively stable PU area, the most sensible would be a hybrid grid tie system with a minimal amount of battery - say for powering efficient DC fans, your internet gear or Starlink. during hours long outages. Once I build my retirement home, this will actually be my plan - maximized Solar Panel coverage and around 2-5KW of Battery Storage that will only be used "sparingly". I will still have a Diesel Genset though for those really long post-typhoon power failures (or I go somewhere else while waiting for power to be restored).
Cost wise I think more or less almost the same. It is more on choosing between Sustainability (renewable energy / less emission / freedom) over Grid Connection (provider reliability / maintenance / services). A win some - lose some situation.
Salamat sir, sobrang solid na explanation, need lang siguro iexplain further na yung net metering medyo matrabahong proseso(depende sa lgu) baka kasi isipin ng iba na matic na bibilhin ng DU ung mga sobrang solar harvest.

Good content, and I really appreciate how you explained between a hybrid and a non-hybrid… You really point out the pros n cons, very informative and educational. Kudos to this video! This video will certainly help Cebuanos make the right decision.

Hi Slater. We are also trying to lower our bills and have begun using solar powered lights in our home. Para sa masang tulad ko na walang 2 million, or even 100k sa bangko, can you give us a review of items that we can use to build our solar powered system at home? Net metering is good pero kahit hindi na muna yun magawa for now. Just a simple set up na pwedeng magamit in case of emergency black outs. If you can do that, we will greatly appreciate it as well. Pinaka popular bilihan ng electronics ay sa Raon, so.. can you make a content and review of items na accessible sa Raon? Huawei is trusty for sure, we just cant afford it yet in this economy. Roi in five years is effing good! And upfront cost is even lower than I expected. Nakaka aaze din na comparatively ang liit ng space na gamit ng batteries. Only question that I have is pano kung nag shot down ang grid due to maintenance, does that mean contnious PA rin ang supply. Ng panels sa grid?
kudosss!! hoping next is algae generated power!! yayy been studying this and it's satisfying to know a lot more about algae! and also this will also be a part of my architecture thesis!! 🥰✊
I’ve been wanting to install a solar system at home but wasn’t sure kung asa mas better sa hybrid ug grid tied. Mostly man gud mga systems sa gawas ang akong makita.. maayo nalang gani you did this video! Have more idea which one i could start with considering the cost of each system.. thank you!
When my aunt bought her solar system. prices were crazy... Now its less than half :D It´s good but she was fuming. The price dropped hard at 2016/17. She bought it early and the professionals took much more money to instal it. :D Nice video
here's what I can say, if your bill in meralco is around 10k+ or higher, just get a solar, youll thank your self, you can ROI that thing for 3-5 years. in my case im already in 5th year but my ROI for my solar is long time already been met I think 2 years ago. sa sobrang mahal ng kuryente sa pilipinas, mabilis mo lang talaga mababawi yung ROI mo. my setup is off grid setup, its just that meralco for me is basically just a backup power for me now, just in case na maubos yung karga ng battery, but that rarely happens now specially this year, I guess all thanks to El Nino, usually kasi around 400-600 pesos lang MSF ko kay meralco, this year around 200 pesos or less na lang. 12kw solar power with 8kwh battery backup, all DIY, total spend is around 980k.
Kung ROI is 7yrs eh pakabit kana agad lalo na kung may pera ka naman, i think life span ng solar panel/cell is 25yrs + maintenance, sulit na sulit yan pag-zero/negative bill mo sa nx 10-15yrs, nka-aircon na lagi walang alalahanin na bill ng koryente
Positive thoughts kuya! Lols 😂 even sa business hindi mo agad makukuha ROI po same with the split system they have. Not just that environment friendly yung system they have! 1yr palang Pero laki na Din na titipid nila!
mabuti tumaas yung presyo ng kuryente kaya gumanda ROI nila. back then, nung unang install ito, around 8-10 years ang estimate ko sa ROI nila. but still poor, sobrang bilis ng ROI kapag na-install ng ibang installers saka kung hindi huawei yung equipment.
clean energy? not really (maybe) imagine the carbon footprint left by producing those components specially the batteries not to mention that you have to replace batts every so often it is an alternative this is just my opnion...yours may be different and I respect that
Very minor comment about the video: Near the 5:20 mark of the video, you can add a seizure warning/countdown for viewers who might have epileptic seizures :)
I have a 6.9 Kwp hybrid inverter set-up with no netmetering yet. I would like to install batteries now. Can you please share your supplier who installed your Huawei batteries?
Nabanggit mo yong lifespan ng battery how about naman yung lifespan ng solar panel itsel? Mga ilang years kaya ang length of service? And cost of maintenance of having the set up, both parts and labor.
Boss, can you show us the complete circuit diagram of your solar setup sa Skypod ninyo? Good to learn kasi meron kayong accessories like the optimizer and such, I'm sure meron pa sa ibang points ng solar wiring setup mo. Just to gain insights lang po, for the reason of this request. DIYer kasi ako. Thanks
As you lower your carbon footprint, are you planning on buying an electric vehicle? Or would that be impractical because the roads in Cebu are so bad and gets flooded easily from a downpour?
Still not practical in long term battery pa lang mahal. Ang kalaban ng solar power ay maintenance cost.
Practical po siya, kaya po my mga legit installer na my 3 years warranty for workmanship, yung set-up ni Slater, ang service life ng battery 10 to 15 years or more (considering the cycle), yung solar panel around 25 years ang service life at ang inverter around 10 years, and yes mahal siya sa simula pero kung tamang system naman, worth it in the long run. Sana nakatulong po ito.
Solar Panels have become dirt cheap. Sana you did an itemized breakdown so we can compare it to today’s prices. As I understand, panel prices might have gone down by 50% or more. Not sure about batteries but am sure it’s also gone down significantly since lithium prices collapsed by 80% from its peak. Just to give you an idea, a Jinko 550W panel is only 4,900 or cheaper. The thickest hardiflex board which is roughly the same size is 1,600 I think. A glass door with the same size as a solar panel would be more expensive. So are panels cheap? Yes! Thinking that payback could be achieved in 2-3 years given our expensive power rates.
A few questions: How much is a solar panel per square meter? How much power is generated per square meter? How much power is generated per square meter in a whole year? Minus the days when it does not generate power. How long is the life span of a solar panel? How much is the total return after total investment during it’s lifetime? Are solar panels recyclable? If they are how much power is needed to recycle it?
you can Google it and find your best specifications of Solar Panel , SSC and Batteries of what you want. All manufacturers are giving their best specification that meets your needs but be ready for their price. 😂
Hi Slater, I was wondering if there might be a more affordable solar setup for families on a tighter budget like ours? We've been facing a lot of brownouts lately, and it's been quite inconvenient. We’re thinking of installing a solar system and maybe a generator as well. Any budget-friendly recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
BTW yung 16 pesos/kwh niyo dyan sa cebu with 5 years ROI is actually not that bad. When compared yan dito sa manila 12pesos/kwh, mas maikli pa ang ROI talaga
I got same issues with the flicker thing when it switches to battery. kasi nakakasira daw yun ng mga appliances. I wonder what ATS to use to solve this problem.

Only question that I have is pano kung nag shot down ang grid due to maintenance, does that mean contnious PA rin ang supply. Ng panels sa grid?
Hybrid system sir yes po
Did he mention how much the upfront cost was for a system this size? I must have missed it.
@@poultryboy1984 yes, the total installation cost is 2.4Million Pesos (Hybrid and Grid tie)
kudosss!! hoping next is algae generated power!! yayy been studying this and it's satisfying to know a lot more about algae! and also this will also be a part of my architecture thesis!! 🥰✊
I’ve been wanting to install a solar system at home but wasn’t sure kung asa mas better sa hybrid ug grid tied. Mostly man gud mga systems sa gawas ang akong makita.. maayo nalang gani you did this video! Have more idea which one i could start with considering the cost of each system.. thank you!
Dami kong learnings, thank you po🙂
This would be convenient every summer when things gets expensive.
I was waiting for this
Great video, thanks for sharing the Slater! 💡
When my aunt bought her solar system. prices were crazy... Now its less than half :D It´s good but she was fuming. The price dropped hard at 2016/17. She bought it early and the professionals took much more money to instal it. :D
Nice video
here's what I can say, if your bill in meralco is around 10k+ or higher, just get a solar, youll thank your self, you can ROI that thing for 3-5 years. in my case im already in 5th year but my ROI for my solar is long time already been met I think 2 years ago.
sa sobrang mahal ng kuryente sa pilipinas, mabilis mo lang talaga mababawi yung ROI mo.
my setup is off grid setup, its just that meralco for me is basically just a backup power for me now, just in case na maubos yung karga ng battery, but that rarely happens now specially this year, I guess all thanks to El Nino, usually kasi around 400-600 pesos lang MSF ko kay meralco, this year around 200 pesos or less na lang.
12kw solar power with 8kwh battery backup, all DIY, total spend is around 980k.
Very complete, detailed and informative. Thanks Engr Slatee
Kung ROI is 7yrs eh pakabit kana agad lalo na kung may pera ka naman, i think life span ng solar panel/cell is 25yrs + maintenance, sulit na sulit yan pag-zero/negative bill mo sa nx 10-15yrs, nka-aircon na lagi walang alalahanin na bill ng koryente
Positive thoughts kuya! Lols 😂 even sa business hindi mo agad makukuha ROI po same with the split system they have. Not just that environment friendly yung system they have! 1yr palang Pero laki na Din na titipid nila!
mabuti tumaas yung presyo ng kuryente kaya gumanda ROI nila. back then, nung unang install ito, around 8-10 years ang estimate ko sa ROI nila. but still poor, sobrang bilis ng ROI kapag na-install ng ibang installers saka kung hindi huawei yung equipment.
As always very informative content..
2. 4M-- 5-6 years ROI sobrang worth it!
thanks Young Slayer for informative video
Very informative sir!! thank you.
Great video sir
Please tell us about the maintenance. Would really help us who wanted to have our own solar panel at home. Thank you in advance! ❤
12:54am 12/16/23
edit: 2:27 oooh Huawei =)
Thanks slater! God bless
Im gonna contact you sa Ph kapag nagpakabit ako ng solar panel. Im one of your new subscriber. From New Jersey, USA
Slater thank you fir thus video its very informative🥰🥰🥰
Okay lang yung grid-tied kasi mas mura ang kuryente sa gabi kesa sa araw.
clean energy? not really (maybe)
imagine the carbon footprint left by producing those components specially the batteries
not to mention that you have to replace batts every so often
it is an alternative
this is just my opnion...yours may be different and I respect that
Do you have any idea how "often" to replace a new battery?
Better than traditional coal plant or nuclear power plant energy. What's your solution?
Its renewable energy better in the long run
2.4M is kinda expensive with that setup but still, overall it's worth it!
Solar Panels it pay for itself in d long run usage . Thanks Slater
Ano po assurance na di siya liliparin sa bagyo like the one na tumama sa bahay niyo dati?
Very minor comment about the video: Near the 5:20 mark of the video, you can add a seizure warning/countdown for viewers who might have epileptic seizures :)
I have a 6.9 Kwp hybrid inverter set-up with no netmetering yet. I would like to install batteries now. Can you please share your supplier who installed your Huawei batteries?
Battery service life is dependent on the number of charges and discharges...
Sa DOD din at full charge voltage. Dapat di sinasagad ang battery para tumagal.
good explanation
Is there any particular roofing sheet you recommend which will sustain the load of the solar panels ?
Or invest your 2.4m in s US dividend ETF returning 10% pa and use the dividend to pay your electricity bill, zero maintenance pa? Hmmm
Nabanggit mo yong lifespan ng battery how about naman yung lifespan ng solar panel itsel? Mga ilang years kaya ang length of service? And cost of maintenance of having the set up, both parts and labor.
Solar panels 20-25 years, very low maintenance lang yung solar panels di kana gagastos ng malaki.
Thanks
How long until that negative bill catches up with the tots cost of those solar panels and maintenance?
Totally worth it if we can afford it
good job, man.
As you lower your carbon footprint, are you planning on buying an electric vehicle? Or would that be impractical because the roads in Cebu are so bad and gets flooded easily from a downpour?
meron ba yung pang bahay lang? doon ilalagay 2 aircons ng bahay, and how much will it cost
@@mangjose03the problem is the lifespan of the batteries
A few questions:
How much is a solar panel per square meter?
How much power is generated per square meter?
How much power is generated per square meter in a whole year? Minus the days when it does not generate power.
How long is the life span of a solar panel?
How much is the total return after total investment during it’s lifetime?
Are solar panels recyclable? If they are how much power is needed to recycle it?
you can Google it and find your best specifications of Solar Panel , SSC and Batteries of what you want. All manufacturers are giving their best specification that meets your needs but be ready for their price. 😂
Ff
pwede kayo mag setup ng ice plant etc. extra business dami excess nyo power
Yayaman nyo ah. Sana all😂
life goal talaga yung solar, yung initial setup lang talaga yung biggest hurdle ng solar
Yeah, maganda talaga yung solar energy as an alternative energy source. Medyo may kamahalan lang pero dapat talaga ma-maximize ito sa pinas eh
Sir Slater, i hope you can account all cost and you can have a video after 3,5,7 years to compute the real actual ROI.
Eating popcorns while looking for experts comments here. 😂😂
madaming nega ehh,
I got same issues with the flicker thing when it switches to battery. kasi nakakasira daw yun ng mga appliances. I wonder what ATS to use to solve this problem.
Have you tried using voltage stabilizers/regulators?
I want, Manifesting 😊
