Only found you a week ago but have already consumed some 30 hours and counting, I love it, especially the full Rohan and Arnor histories! I love that you don't just regurgitate what you have gone over in other videos word by word but instead go in with fresh writing it's brilliant.❤️
@@DarthGandalfYT As a transwoman doing voice training that is extremely relatable. BUT I am now probably closer to 40 hours and in the horrible microphone era but the content is worth it, love how much you've improved as you go! ❤
The sun initially rose in the west, and then swung back and forth between west and east, never setting. The Valar soon changed their minds, and the sun began following the daily cycle we still have today. I'm a software engineer, and this has always seemed like a post-release bug fix via a configuration setting update. 🙂☀️
Great video Darth I really enjoyed it. I have been a huge Tolkien fan for almost my entire life and you provide some of the best videos and insight out there.
"if you ever feel lazy, just look at the elven cartographers that named the entire region east" Sort of like in hitckhikers guide when the entire entry for Earth is "Harmless", it gets even funnier when it changes to "Mostly harmless" after Ford Prefect complained to the publishers about it.
I'm so glad you decided to make more of the longer videos, and it looks like this one is already performing well after 2 days. I hope this means we get more soon 🙂
thanks really interesting. :-) didn’t know that about the Avari elves. I’m trying to imagine the concept of an inland sea. I’m assuming that The sea is surrounded by land on all sides?
The seas of Rhun, Nurnen and Helcar existing at the same time is quite possible even with the latter drying up. It’s actually expected, as while the Sea of Helcar was drying, the latter two seas were split off and remained, even when the Helcar finally vanished.
I think it's said that the Sea of Rhûn was all the time however I might be mistaken, when it comes to Sea of Núrnen I would assume it was definetly the cause of splitting up due to drying of the sea
You should do a mysteries vidoe about Cuiviénen, it’s destroyed between the end of the first age and the downfall of Nùmenor. How did it come about, why would Eru remove it?
Hi Darth Gandalf I just wanna say I think your channels is one of the best Tolkien ones around. Not a lot of the other TH-camrs go into the level of detail that you do (and you also don’t do a lot of what if videos which I think are complete drivel and nonsense)
It's really too bad that Amazon didn't decide to focus their series on the Easterlings and blue wizards. There would be so many interesting stories about the various peoples and those that resist against Sauron, and no need to stomp all over the existing worldbuilding.
if it weren't for distracting comments from incels scrolling below this vid, I would love the experience. 2min in, never heard of you or rhûn before - but you've got a subscribian
Darth Gandalf I just wanted to comment if you have the time you should do like a divide and conquer campaign because with your lore knowledge it could be really fun thing to watch it may increase your viewers as more people may watch your games if you did it I would 100 percent watch !!!!
If you're still looking for suggestions for future videos, perhaps a video about the Lands of the Sun and Gates of Morning? Might be very short given the lack of material to work with, but by the same token it sure is mysterious.
I am noting that DG is using a lot of pieces of lore that were abandoned at various points. What if there were multiple versions of the early history of Rhûn? Edit: what of the giants living in Gondor, according to Gwaithurim legends?
Western-Central Rhûn is basicly like the great Eurasian steppe, one group emerges after the other be it Huns, Avars, Bulgars, Khazars, Pechenegs, Cumans or Mongols
Complete speculation but maybe the eastern dwarves refused to submit and were therefore attacked and their holds besieged by the Easterlings under Sauron's dominion. This would explain the strange dwarven refugees in the shire, Sauron's battle hardened troops, and also why an army was sent with great success against the longbeards in the north.

Where is this information from? Did Tolkien describe this ?
The many peoples living south of Gondor are collectively called Southrons/Haradrim because Harad means south, so maybe the collective term for all peoples living to the east of Gondor would be Rhun(d)rim?
I still wish that you would pronounce Calenardhon with the soft th rather than the hard D. "dh" substitutes for the ð or eth. Tolkien would have undoubtedly used the soft th sound rather than the D.
@@norlockv Exactly. Either content creators don't realise (which I doubt), or they believe that their viewership wouldn't know and would get confused. If the latter holds true, maybe it's time to educate people?
The Rhun people are the true Children of Illuvatar. They did not have Elven masters. They fend off for themselves since their awakening. They are a civilization closer to the origin of man. They were the true potential of humanity. Too bad the only religion they knew is Sauron The sea of Helcar must have been the golden age for the people of rhun. But those pesky Valar destroyed it. That's why their society was destroyed because of the sudden climate and geographical change
I leave this comment in joy and heart ache. For this is the comment celebrating the comments numbering "69!", and all the racous humour that brings!! But in leaving this comment, the number is now sadly 70. I have now destroyed that which I have loved. A moment of bittersweet victory!!
Last time I was this early the lamps of the Valar were still around
damn Morgoth and his spider bitch
Last time I was this late the Entwives had gone missing
Ok

Isn't he great? There are a handful of youtubers who rarely make mistakes on the lore and he is definitely one of the.
I appreciate it. Although after thirty hours of listening to my own voice I think my ears would start to bleed lol.

That is a very nice surprise. I listen to your podcasts when I work in my garden
Although to be clear I am not digging any holes lol
In no way I expected another complete history video so soon, but lets go..
These videos are some of the best available anywhere. I love these long format ones that cover extended periods of times.
The sun initially rose in the west, and then swung back and forth between west and east, never setting. The Valar soon changed their minds, and the sun began following the daily cycle we still have today.

Seriously, a post release patch for sure
Great video Darth I really enjoyed it. I have been a huge Tolkien fan for almost my entire life and you provide some of the best videos and insight out there.
Honestly I didn’t think you’d find 40+ minutes of good material! Great video
Great timing. Time to chill and enjoy 😊❤😊

Thanks for the shout-out to Cair Andros.
I suppose a TV or movie series called:
The Lost Tales of Rhun
would be out of the question?
Hopefully not done by Amazon.
Never read the books but I love listening to your videos they bring me peace of mind
Love your ‘complete history’ series. Keep them up for the different regions 😊
One of the few creators who gets the auto like, always top notch

Love the long podcasts/videos. Thanks bud
So, when's The Complete History of Harad or
The Complete History of Eriador coming?
Another great video!
You forgot the twin Nazgûl sisters from Shadow of war who are definitely canon.
😂😂😂
From that Chinese land further east from Rhun off Tolkien’s map
Fantastic compilation of Rhûn dude! And thanks for keeping your integrity and not adding a boat load of ads and sponsor segments in your vids 💪.
thanks really interesting. :-) didn’t know that about the Avari elves. I’m trying to imagine the concept of an inland sea. I’m assuming that The sea is surrounded by land on all sides?
I knew it would be a matter of time until something like this would come 😊
Great work. I broke it up over several days, but was thoroughly entertained.
The seas of Rhun, Nurnen and Helcar existing at the same time is quite possible even with the latter drying up. It’s actually expected, as while the Sea of Helcar was drying, the latter two seas were split off and remained, even when the Helcar finally vanished.

It's possible, but then Helcar must've dried up at a rapid rate given the Elves went around it, and then ended up at the Sea of Rhun.
@@DarthGandalfYT maybe it was already at the last phase of splitting from Helcar
Awesome, I welcome any and all long form investigations into the geographical and theoretical hinterlands of Middle Earth. Keep up the good work.
Very impressive how much you have researched this lesser known part of Arda
You should do a mysteries vidoe about Cuiviénen, it’s destroyed between the end of the first age and the downfall of Nùmenor. How did it come about, why would Eru remove it?
Hotfix patch I guess
Great video! Do Harad next!!
I love this type of videos
He returns with an absolute banger!
Nice work dude thanks
I’ve been fascinated by the Adunaic language for a while. I’d love a video on it. Take it as a challenge for another super niche topic video

Neat to learn some more about the mysterious Blue Wizards.
These longer historical reviews of various subjects from Middle Earth/Arda are simply great
Happy easter
Hell yeah new DG lore just dropped
It's really too bad that Amazon didn't decide to focus their series on the Easterlings and blue wizards. There would be so many interesting stories about the various peoples and those that resist against Sauron, and no need to stomp all over the existing worldbuilding.
They would have just made that terrible as well
thanks for the video i hope we go here in Lotro one day
Well done.
yay, my favourite c:

Can you make "The Complete History of" a playlist?
You also have the Arnor one, im not sure if any other

I can't wait for SSG to eventually get to Rhun (i predict.. in about 2 or 3 years time) it'll be interesting to see their take on it.
Western-Central Rhûn is basicly like the great Eurasian steppe, one group emerges after the other be it Huns, Avars, Bulgars, Khazars, Pechenegs, Cumans or Mongols
I once again ask for a "Complete History of the Dwarves!"
Holy shit, I sat down to watch this thinking it would a 10 minute video tops
Im still waiting for the Lostladen video ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Hence the expression about going to Rhun nation.
Complete speculation but maybe the eastern dwarves refused to submit and were therefore attacked and their holds besieged by the Easterlings under Sauron's dominion. @7:45 minor correction, they were called StiFFbeards, not StiLLbeards.
The word laden is pronounce LAY-den and LAY-dend
What is Easterling in Sindarin? Rhunarim?
The many peoples living south of Gondor are collectively called Southrons/Haradrim because Harad means south, so maybe the collective term for all peoples living to the east of Gondor would be Rhun(d)rim?
Why would you say "a minimum" of 2 eastern dwarven houses lost their rings to dragons?
I still wish that you would pronounce Calenardhon with the soft th rather than the hard D. "dh" substitutes for the ð or eth. Tolkien would have undoubtedly used the soft th sound rather than the D.
Next you're going to ask us to pronounce Noldor as "Ngoldor".
Tolkien lays out the pronunciation in the texts, including the use of “dh” as a soft “th” as in “other.”
@@coreyander286 That would be ridiculous. Hence, no, I won't be.
