It’s crazy to realize that back in the day makeup was actually more environmentally friendly b/c they focused more on refills than repackaging.
But it was also poisonous
Agreed if only we kept that part xD
Brands that offer refills/ sustainable packaging if you're interested.
- Besamé Cosmetics
- Elaté cosmetics.
- Eré Perez
- The Body Shop
- Lush
That's all I have purchased from and personally recommend.
I think we're getting back into doing that again...I was also surprised that was a thing that long ago!! If it ain't broke don't fix it😊
They did tons of animal testing tho
1920's redemption! 😂 There's actually a shop called Besamé that reproduce most of those products and actually work.
They do really cool mascara with a brush and black pan don't they?❤
came here to say this @hope!
Oooo I’m totally going to look into this!! That could be fun as it’s own video!!
Love that brand!
You can also get vintage inspired makeup (remember Tangee?) and bath products from the Vermont Country Store.
I’m gunna show my nana this video. She’s 96 so it’ll be cool to see what she thinks of the 100 year old products. ❤
That's so cute! Please share her thoughts ❤
Ooh p.eaze share her thoughts :D it baffles me that there's people still alive thats nearly a century years old!
I love this idea. I hope that she enjoys watching it with you.
Such a fun idea and she lived through the 70s too so she would know how that all went lol
@@Johanna-n2l Aw y’all are so cute. ❤️🫶🏻 I definitely will share her thoughts and let y’all know. She definitely speaks her mind too and criticizes, so I’m sure she’ll have some funny things to say. 😂
Wow Hope, well done with today's video! You really put your all in it- as you always do. I love the sets, your outfits, etc. You clearly spent a lot of time researching. I am so proud of you. I am grateful for all you put into TH-cam. Well done!
Ohhhh, I loved the smell of that Covergirl foundation! I feel like I can smell it through the TV.
Yummy
I would be so scared holding a 100 year old hairdryer
Frrr
It shocked me a little bit as I plugged it in, and I was TERRIFIED 😅 safe to say I won’t be actually using it again any time soon haha

Did u know u can use eye drops or contact solution to add to ur mascara or eyeliner to bring it back to life or moisturize it. Just add in like 3-5 drops and shake it up 😊 I do it all the time, it really works! ✌️💜✌️💜
Thank you for this tip!! 🙏🏼
A couple drops of Inglot duraline in the tube works too! Drop drop shake shake shake ❤
Fun fact, ACTUAL 1920’s lipstick was actually dark blue to show up dark in V&R’s photos and on film and black! So often you’d see women out and about with full black pencil thin brows, black lipstick and black eyeshadow.
Marilyn Monroe was an icon in the 1950’s, 30 years later! So comparing her red lipstick to the 1920’s trends was completely wrong
Love this video so much! In the 1920’s nail polish the white actually would have been used under the top of the free edge of the nail to whiten the appearance kind of like a natural French manicure!
I have my mom’s white pencil she used to whiten her nails. She was born in 1916. Love this video ❤😊
That bedroom and bathroom tho 2:20 😍😍😍
Omg Hope’s a real one for this, sacrificing her skin for us🥺💖 sending prayers for you girl lol💗 love ya!!!
My grandmother used to love pear soap, used it everyday up until she died last month. Her bathroom smelled of the orange pears soap. So i welled up a little when hope brought it on screen❤
I collect vintage Avon perfume bottles! Especially the animal ones. I love your 70's dress. 😊
My mom sold Avon, my dad still has some of the animals
I sold Avon for a bit in the 80s. Lol I think I spent more than I ever sold 😅 between my mother and myself we have a few boxes of the little perfume bottles my very first one was a gift from a grandmother of sweet honesty perfume in a lounging unicorn bottle lol. Right now in my bathroom I have that small blue milk glass pitcher/bowl from Avon. I can't remember what was in it. Skin so soft oil maybe?
Oh my gosh the filming setup!!?
As someone with pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes, I’ve been wearing brown eyeliner and mascara my whole life. It’s much less harsh than black.
Same except green eyes
girl the pink bathroom??!!! i need a tour asap plz😍
Slay hope you look super beautiful in all of it
She always looks beautiful
@@rachelbyrge9521 I know right
I could've sent you loads of vintage make up to try 🥺 I lost my nanny last year and I've kept ALL of her makeup from 1940 onwards just for the memories 🥰 there's some really cool stuff in there too, wish I could attach photos here 😭 I still use Avon make up to this day! New of course, I'm not sat digging through my nans dusty eyeshadows 😂 but I still get a brochure delivered every month and honestly they do some great stuff!!!
And another fun fact about the pears soap... my MIL gave my partner a bar of pears soap to put at the end of his bed to help his restless leg syndrome 😅😂 apparently its meant to help - he didn't find it helpful 😂 but loads of people have sworn by pears soap for restless leg syndrome!!!! ❤
Here's a history lesson for everyone. Mascara was originally mad for mens beards.
That first black and white close up photo is stunning. I’d love to see a video of you becoming a pinup model for a day or something and actually learning some pinup poses
For the 1920's hair, I think the soot is specifically from the smores maker.
Today, there are still similar products in use (see: hot combs) for textured hair that do not have the same issue. Im sure using a stove, rather than the smores maker would have improved this.
girllll you look so good oh my gosh
That specific brand of lip tint has been sold at the dollar tree for at least the last decade. it's funny how it didn't become a trend until someone decided to start selling them for more 😂
I remember that 70's Cover Girl foundation. My mother wore it..and I can remember EXACTLY what it smelled like!
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH HOPE!!! you have inspired me in so
many ways!!❤
OMG, massive flashback with the 70s rollers. My mom curled my hair with a set very much like that one. They are, in fact, terrifying.
Is no one gonna talk about how beautiful her bedroom is that is so gorgeous a lot has changed, but it looks beautiful❤❤❤❤
That bedroom look amazing 🩷 only pinky vibes 🌸💕🎀
I remember my grandma had like a weird compact foundation thingy from like the 50s. I used it because I didn't know it was like 70 years old and started breaking out really bad. I hope you dont break out!!!!
18:10 i did not expect to see myself 🤣 i love your videos so much!!
haii hailey!hove ur content!!
In the 70s, I only wore Maybelline Very Black mascara and Rose powdered blush. I plucked my eye brow once and let them grow back immediately. Today, I still don't wear a lot of makeup.
Who thinks hope should give American girl dolls preppy makeovers 😊
My mum actually bought a vintage hot roller set - because they are better rollers, and the plus is one you remove them they can’t keep adding constant heat to your hair like a curling iron, meaning less hair damage! :)
NOT JAMES CHARLES’ PALE FACE ERA💀💀💀 4:07
Hope, you have timeless beauty which means that no matter when your true beauty shines!
Anyone else sick and happy that Hope posted?
Can we appreciate how AMAZING the backdrops are ! 💖
Hi Hope! I absolutely ADORE your channel 🩷
In the 60s, I had the very fashionable backcombed flick-ups. This hairstyle meant sleeping in copious amounts of prickly rollers every night and the use of lots of lacquer to hold it with lots of hairclips. How I suffered for my fashion. Cold cream was/is just greasy face cream like Nivea, Astral and Ponds.
YASSS HOPESCOPE POSTED A VIDEOOOOOOOOO!!!
I went from this 😐to this 🤩 after I saw that u posted, luv uuuu 💗!
I graduated high school in 1977. You nailed the look. I remember a big splurge was to get a bottle of nail polish for $1.00. I was earning a 0.75 an hour for babysitting.
Can’t believe you put that on your skin 😂😂😂
the way Hope started calling every product mascara accidentally made me chuckle
1:02 giving the Dijon mustard of foundation lol❤
You should try Besame Cosmetics. They do replications of old school makeup!
As someone approaching fifty, I can confirm that brown mascara and/or brown eyeliner is a returning trend. When I was a teen and probably into my twenties, brown mascara and eyeliner was just as prevalent as black in the make-up options. I think the brown ones were more commonly used by those with fairer hair and lashes, then black was for those with darker hair and lashes but for those in the middle, there were brown/black options…which were essentially just dark brown.
To be honest, I am of an age and background of only wearing make-up when you’re doing something special like a night out or generally something that you’d dress a bit nicer for. So the sheer amount of make-up that seems normal to younger people now, just seems overwhelming to me and I wonder how your skin gets the chance to breathe.
My Mum used Cold Cream every single day and she had beautiful skin…oh and make-up in the past was far more scented than it is now.
“Ayyyyyyyyyyy”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I can’t even right now hope 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hope, you are amazingly brave! Thank you, to you and the team, for this fun video. ❤
Brown mascara has definitely been a thing for a while. I bought brown mascara in the 90s. It’s not a new trend.
I'm a huge fan, and who else thought there wouldn't be a cord on the 1920, I didn't know there were outlets😂😂😂😂😂
I like brown mascara in that it creates a softer look in the daytime versus black which can be more dramatic
I love how the older make up had compact that were reusable and refillable. It really bothers me that so many brands today just make throwaway crappy packaging and have no refills for their products.
so the wet setting gels are used for dry rollers. Hot rollers are just used as hot rollers with no pre-prep. The trick was to let them heat up for about 20 minutes put them in when they were burning your fingers and then let them cool completely so you spent a good hour and a half, dealing with them. But they would last a long time and you sprayed the crap out of your hair afterward.
i collect vintage nail polish and tbh some of the cancerous chemicals they used to contain made for better polish. you can also thin almost any old polish with solvent and they come back to life. i've never bought one new packaging, this was soo cool to see!!!
I still have my first hair dryer with cap on tube that's fits onto it and still have it I was 18 years old now I'm 67 years 😂
Max factor pancake make up. It’s what they used on the stars and it’s what I used in the 80s and then they took it off the shelves, but you can still buy it. It was amazing.
OMG HOPE!!!! I LITERALLY LOVE YOUR VIDS!!!!❤
Great video!!!!! It took me back to when I started to wear makeup. Thank you for the memory! Just FYI. Makeup brushes and different "sponges" were also available in the 70's and 80's. I used to use them when I was applying makeup back in the day. My mom did not like foundation as a rule, but when she used it, she used a makeup brush. Also, I used a variety of colors (as did my mom) for mascara in the 60's-80's. It was not based on eye color. :) Loved all the final looks, but I think you nailed it with the '20!! (either one). LOL!
i love your videosssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I like these kinda videos
It's like we're taking a road trip into our history and what it was like
I don’t know why, but I love watching your videos when it’s thunderstorm😂
I LOVE your dress for the 70s look!!
RUN. DON’T WALK. HOPE UPLOADED.

Under an hour squad 👇🏼
Your mom was an Avon Lady? My grandma double-dipped the MLM companies by selling both Avon and Stanley products. And she was amazing at it. The bigger bedroom that was supposed to be the Master was actually where she kept her products organized, and I remember spending time with her bagging her product orders and delivering them.

This is the earliest I've ever seen a video!! This video was so fun!!
Also... those look like the UV bulbs in my reptile cages😂😂
Hey Hope, just so you know, I was around in the 80's as my early teens and up. I have found that if you live long enough, all fashion and makeup trends come back in style. Case in point, I saw that there were jeans that had a v pattern in the front that was trending. That was a 80's style completely, I used to have multiple pairs of jeans like that lol, I also used brown mascara because it made my blue eyes pop.
The filming setup ❤ The outfits ❤ The hair ❤ The VIDEO❤❤❤❤🎉
I think those sunlamps were used on babies that had jaundice. They still use natural sunlight and light treatment for jaundice.
In the video 15:43 she said mascara when talking about lipstick 😂❤
At like 13:10 or math she said mascara instead of eyeshadow aswell
I was really impressed by the 1970’s rollers! They were surprisingly good 💖
There is this modern brand that makes products inspired by the 20s and the 30s you could have used that brand, they also make mascara like the one you should.😊
1:30 1:18 3:23 i love all off the backrounds sooo pretty
Wow I loveeeeeeee your bedroom aaaaa ✨ it’s giving manifesting vibes
I love that these videos have short intros.
Did anyone noticed... Her editing style have changed a little from the last video ✨🌷
This is my favorite video!! I can tell you worked hard on this one. Thank you ❤
Have you ever tried the products that are made from famous anime manga ? Like Pokemon sailor Moon you name it and try their latest candies and treats from Japan ?
Girly how did you make these AMAZING backdrops???
You are taking me down memory lane with all of the 70s stuff. I still used a lot of that stuff in the early 80s too.
My Grandma was born 1920 so loving this video ❤❤❤
I feel like I still do my makeup like the 70s… 🤦🏼♀️😹🤦🏼♀️😹🤦🏼♀️😹
