- In this weeks episode we share what we think is the best tub canopy for your ute. This rei smart cap canopy is so well designed and we can even put the boat on the roof.
The Rsi smart canopy is a great addition for those wanting to keep there tub on there ute and is also affordable. The Rsi smart cap canopy is a modular system meaning you can customise it to suite your setup. You can have someone to install it bt we opted to install it ourselves and we shoe you how easy t really is.
We are super happy the way it has turned out and let us know in the comment section what you think.
What’s in this episode 👇🏻
✅ Rsi canopy build and install
Our trip around Australia all started in 2019 when we lost a dear friend and something like that opened our eyes up and decided to travel and make memories as tomorrow is not guaranteed. Took us about 7 months and we were on the road. We decided to create videos to share with our family and friends all around the world and to inspire some right here in Australia to do the same.

Fark yeahhh! The canopy looks good!
Awesome job my friends- just a suggestion you might want to consider putting a dust suppression system on too keep the dust out of the back . I cannot wait to see it fully fitted out and what you include in the build. Thanks 🙏 for the update as usual great vlog. Take care.
Awesome job guys. What a great solution with so much storage. 👏
I recommend you check out the Decked draw system, I have it on my Ranger and they are fantastic. They are an American COY that sell them here in OZ. Efectively you will lift the floor and have all the storage in the draws. You could put the fridge up the front without a fridge slide and use the step that is already there. Love your Chanel keep the great videos coming.
Thanks so much Jason, will let Deryck know.
Very interested to get an update in regards to dust ingress. That was the only reason I sold my ute for a wagon but the ute suits my needs way more tbh. That canopy and the accessories look like a good option
Nice work guys the hubby was very impressed with the build process! 👍
Congratulations guys looks great
Thats looks fantastic, looking forward to seeing how you fit it out inside
Thanks so much 😊
Looking smart, Bobby looked happy being supervisor 😅
Thanks so much, Bobby had a great day, didn't know what to do with himself with all cardboard and straps to chew! 😂😂
It looks really good. Hopefully have the inside sorted soon
Thanks so much,. much appreciate it!
Great looking canopy that suits the Chev. Looking forward to how you setup the inside.
The chev is looking good and is all coming together how I pictured it 🙌🏻
That looks mint. You probably already have a plan for power but something like a Bluetti Power pack is all you need for the rear. Stay simple.
Thanks so much and so awesome to see your comment poo up, yes power will be a big consideration ad we want to be able to get away with just the car for some trips. Have a great week!
Yea it’s looking great.
Absolutely agree the BLUETTI units are brilliant..
Looks great guys. Can’t wait for the rest 😄👌
Thanks so much really appreciate it!
Thank you. Getting there slowly 😁
Got a Smartcap on my BT50 and absolute love it.i have the roof mounted table. Dust proof and water proff too
That's amazing to hear! Yes we havenheard they are great with dust too.
So far we are super stoked with it
Looks Awesome on that truck
We really liking the way it’s coming together
Looks good. I think it is a great way to go. Yep you can buy boats in Victoria ;-)
Aha, thanks so much 😊
Was not a fan of the smartcap canopy when they first came out but I have got used to them now, must say though it looks mint on the Chev and in black....... 👍
🎉🎉yay! Looks great ! Cant wait to see the fit out!
Great video
Thank you 🤙🏻
Looking good, great work
Thanks so much 😂
Looks good and well made. I just got a new motorbike and it's gray and black. I'm now freaking at being side swiped. I'd say the same thing about your pickup truck, start thinking about being more noticeable from the sides, like lights. Orange truck lights, for example.
Looks awesome guys - very nice
Great to meet and chat at the 4x4 show last Friday (Tassies 👮♂️😉)
Looking forward to your updates re your ‘order’
Wooohoo. It's all coming together very nicely, team. I do like your new "trades assistant" Deryck. She's a keeper mate. 😊
😊 thanks so much Dave, we try amd keep it together when working together and I try not to get too bossy 😂
We are very happy with how it’s coming together. Definitely keeping the tradie 😁😂
Well done looks great good to see you both up and and excited for your next boating adventures😎
It looks fantastic. It's really starting to come together.
Looking Great
Thanks so much,. much appreciate it!
Thank you so much 🤙🏻
Great effort guys, makes it look so much better that before. These canopies really look the part and so easy to fit.👋👋
Just need to get Sue some high heel shoes and possibly a step ladder.😁
Looks great ❤ keeping it real 😊
Thanks so much, we are as pleased as punch with it!
Thank you. Really happy with the way it’s all coming together
Looks great 👍
Thanks 😊
Hey Guys wow!! Black Angus looks shmick!!! you did an awesome job Deryck! And so did your helper! 😊 We have the same problem needing a ladder! Lol great to see what your up to and can’t wait till your back on the road 😊
😂😂😂 thanks guys that gave me a giggle! Hope you are travelling well 😊
Thanks guys. Yip off to Bunnings for a ladder 😂 hope to on the road soon 🙌🏻
@@suelandolt6840 it was also funny seeing Bobby helping lol 😁🐾
Love Bobby the site supervisor very cute ❤❤
Thanks Karen, he is living his best life with a big yard and fur friends! 😊
He goes alright 😂
Looks great guys. Have a few mates with RSi’s just a tip make sure you regularly check the bolts tension as they are known to loosen up and the seal sag in and cause leaks etc. can’t wait to see what your entire set up will be.
Good job mate it looks great I think 💭 you will need a step especially for Sue catch you on the road some day 😉 cheers legends 😄
Whoah 😮 that looks super cool guys, very impressed with how it came together and keen to see what else you add 👌🏻…. Hello Bobby boy!
Thanks so much guys, hope you are well and have a great week!
Thank you so much, really happy with the way it’s all coming together
Awsum build - looks fabulous. Well done. Cheers
The word is awesome . It’s not that hard.
Hey Derek take a look at Squeeze Box Ladders. They are so light and fold down so small. We have a 4 step. Might be great for canopy.
Love it, wow
Thanks so much!
We put a Smartcap on our baby Z71 (Colorado). My husband and I built it and installed it while he had COVID 😂 We used an engine hoist to get it on as we didn’t have any mates to help. Looks sick.
Great job guys! Yes a hoist is a great idea! Could have done with one but managed to get a few friends to help. Good that you managed to keep busy during covid!
Great stuff you guys like what you put up. Just putting it out there I think you should have put the bin on the other side as that's the side caravan door is on & especially if a fridge/cool box goes in there, also it's not on the traffic side when pulled up. It might even be the side you use the most because of it's easier access.
Looks amazing Deryck “Black Angus” is starting to look the part. Can’t wait to see it with the boat on top. Like Sue has said it’s affordable and you’ve shown it can be done DIY to keep the cost down. Well done guys we are so happy that everything is coming together for you and we can’t wait to see the next new addition to come. 🎉😁
@@TrickeyzTravelz. thank you guys. Really appreciate it. It’s all coming together now. Hope you guys are well and enjoying the travel life. Hope to see you soon 🙌🏻
Yep can’t wait for the next round of campfires and beers minus the rivers flowing through the campsite 😂
This made me giggle!
Canopy looks smart. When are the Canapés coming out to celebrate.
100! Looking forward to a few on the road, can't wait to get these wheels turning again!
U can get a step ladder that fits over the wheels so u don't scratch the paint work with an aluminium one. outback equipment sell them. Cheers.
Looks mint!!
nice now get that boat on and go catch some big fish living the the dream
Looks amazing
Fantastic 🎉
Looks like a really great setup I think it would work for me
Can you tell me what is the height of the opening at the rear
I’m thinking of adding a Cargoslide tray as well
Wow! Love it guys. Sue, you crack me up. Definitely need a ladder. Hey, Derek, can’t the boat loader be moved forward so it doesn’t hang off the back? Ps got Chevy envy…..loving the mods x
Ahah, thanks so much! Will have to leave Deryck to the tech questions! Have a great week 😂
Thank you so much. Really happy with it. Boat loader has to be that far back for boat to miss the Ute and the boat comes down onto a bracket that fits into the hitch
Looks good, mean canopy do you miss the 79
Looks good. Where does your outboard motor go?
Where did you get the boat loader from thanks
nice canopy, where you guys in Epping today?
looks good...any weight issues coming up ?
Wow looks great, boat motor where are you thinking of storing when travelling?
Boat loader will be in the back of the canopy, we are still tinkering with the fit out in the back!
I’m hoping the next ep we will be able to show what we do inside the canopy
Maybe one of those wheel steps might be take up less room then the step ladder. The steps which sit over the wheel there should be one that fits your tyres?
Take a look at Squeeze Box Ladders
Check the clamp bolts on corrugated roads ,they come loose
Thanks for the heads up, will keep an eye on them.
Does Smartcap provide the weight of their canopies or the weights of the individual components making up the canopy that one orders, so that one can calculate the total weight? Being made of aluminium or steel, its weight could have quite an impact on your GVM etc.
We use an over the wheel step from camping shop. Hope this helps. If you like a photo I can send to you guys. Awesome video ❤
The step folds up very compact and extremely solid.
Thank you. That’s a great idea, will definitely look into it
I do the same in our navara
@@justvanningit you are very welcome.
Hay I ve been overseas for 3 months what happened to the old canopy and van?
Is that your new van in the background ?
No, that’s our friends van that we staying in at the moment while we wait for ours
Where did you purchase "The Lazy Loader" boat loader from, please?
I bought it second hand from qld
Ah, good on you. I think they stopped manufacturing.
Is it waterproof?
Absolutely, 2 of our close friends have this canopy and a 3rd friend previously and they are waterproof.
Assume you guys have decided not to address that elephant / the real reason why the new van….
Maybe they got bored with the old one as it had limited work space for daily office work
We have decided to wait for the new van because we think that will help everyone understand why we made the change. Sometimes seeing how something will work is easier than us just telling someone how it will work.
Good answer Sue, theirs just no convincing people, back in 2019 Zone used to manufacture 17 models of caravans, today they manufacture 3, they’ve streamlined the business for many reasons, the company overall is now worth over 100 million due to the many changes, and less human error, manufacturing three models is working for them currently, but I can see they are not for absolutely everyones needs. We will collect our Zone in September, I’d like to see you two, and Bobby in the great outdoors one day soon. 🎉 The car looks smiko..
@@highvibe4839 Do they make a Donut Van ?
@@highvibe4839, Really, do you turnover your $200k caravans every 12 months was well - being a bit gullible
Just for transparency, did you pay for the canopy?
Wie gee om?
@@SuperStefanventer I do. If the video is just a commercial, I would rather watch something else.
I’m loving the look of that canopy but for practicality you can’t go past a chassis mounted canopy.
I’m betting within a year possibly 2 you’ll sway it out for a chassis mounted canopy.
Will be interesting to see how we go having had both. Will keep everyone updated.
Its only $$ :-)
HAhahahah. Don't fall off the ladder accessing this monster. Honestly, it looks great, but neither of you are 6ft 2. Hope it works out.
Awesome job my friends- just a suggestion you might want to consider putting a dust suppression system on too keep the dust out of the back . I cannot wait to see it fully fitted out and what you include in the build. Thanks 🙏 for the update as usual great vlog. Take care.
Thanksbso much, that sounds like a great idea! Always love hearing frombyou and hope you are well!
@@66pheonixpatrick76 yes dust manages to find its way in
Yea I think it’s all coming together now. Will see how we go with the dust 🙌🏻
@@justvanningit i truely look forward to your vlogs. I personally find your vlogs inspiring, I hope you stay travelling and exploring this great country of ours as long as you can .
@@justvanningitwe had scupper vents installed in our canopy after our first trip off road. They worked a treat.
Hey Derek take a look at Squeeze Box Ladders. They are so light and fold down so small. We have a 4 step. Might be great for canopy.
