  • A trail run organized by Wild Spaces PH. The last time I joined a trail run was in 2018 and even though this is the shortest at 16 kilometers, this is by far the hardest trail run I have experienced so far. The biggest challenge was the mud especially after the passing the summit. There's downhill mud, mud with flowing water, and ankle deep mud the holds your foot to the ground like it has a suction cup. I couldn't run properly, I tried, but I always slip. Though I was able to counter balance some, I still fell to the ground no less than 20 times. So I just walked 85% of the whole route. I was very careful that my pace was 3 times slower than my usual hiking pace. Like 44 to 50 minutes per kilometer. That's how hard it is because of the mud and the last 6 kilometers also include another 400+ meter uphill segment and another muddy downhill with lots of rocks. The plant life like vines and branches can help slow you down when you're slipping, but they can also cut you and I had a lot of that too. In 2015, I ran a 32-kilometer trail run and finished 4 hour 50 minutes. This one is half that distance but I finished it 10 hours 9 minutes. It's all because I'm very careful in the mud trail. I rarely overtake other runners when I had the chance, I just wait so I can move safely. I probably would have very well if it was a dry season, but still, what an experience it was. My toughest trail run ever and one of the toughest runs I ever joined.
