Well, America is a racially diverse country and the series is about women in prison. This means a wide range of women end up in prison : white, black, Hispanic, Asian, African, gay, straight, religious, atheist....It wouldn't be realistic if it wasn't diverse.

And the best thing is almost every character is incredibly well-written. Maybe show runners, screenwriters and producers should learn a lot from this TV series.
