Also totally distraught that we didn't get any character interactions afterwards, I was totally looking forward to Max being like "why are you wearing my clothes?!" to Emma, and Lauren being like "Why are you wearing MY clothes" to Max. I feel like that would've been a much better time filler than that god awful podcast at the end
@@CytheriaXylia they do interact in one ending, idk if they mention what he’s wearing I can’t remember. But to get this you have to kill Chris, Ryan has to bleed out then you have to shot Travis and then max and Laura reunite
I was saying the same thing, but I just realized something. They said that Silas was gone and out of the area for a long time. So he probably wouldn’t want to count on killing silas because he couldn’t find him for 6 years. That’s just my thoughts but it kind of makes sense. He still could’ve mentioned silas though.
I mean, to be fair, she probably wouldn’t have believed him and thought he was fucking with her. Most people ignore information that seems to hold no logical sense
Although you could be referring to something else, I’n still very early in this episode so I thought you were talking about at the beginning when he told her to go to the motel
I've been thinking about that too, and I believe they should have had it where he does tell Laura the truth, or at least most of the truth if you can get him to respect and trust her after the first full moon in the station. She could still be out there a little too gung ho and still kill Kaylee, which gets her wrapped up with the Hacketts like normal. Travis could have told a fib, claiming that Silas was locked in the shelter and he was on his way to finish the job when he found them crashed in the woods, and that since she let him free and got Max cursed, she should help him in the hunt for Silas, and maybe it's possible for Laura to find out he lied and that Chris was the one actually locked down there giving her the option to just kill Chris to free Max and escape, or to stay on the path of hunting Silas, however long it takes. There's so many better ways they could have gone than the insufferable disaster that is a lack of communication. The devs retread far too much of the same things as Until Dawn that they really should have learned from and improved on, instead of just recycling it on a bigger scale.
''yeah so there was this guy I liked, his name was Ryan and he got this chainsaw and like cut my hand off after we kissed in a game of truth or dare...'' is what I imagine his main focus would be
I was wondering how he was going to explain it to disability services to get assistance. Its hard enough when the reason is completely natural and medical.
Jack 5 days ago: "I don't like this cop, he's gonna end up killing us or something" Jack now: "my main group are alive, plus travis, because travis is cool"
Travis is the best, not only because he's played by Ted Raimi (although that alone could be enough) but because you feel for him. He only wants to help his family to lift the curse. And in return he always gets yelled at by his ma 💀 He's definitely my favourite character from the game
@@NippyNep yeah, he literally made sure the "prisoners" were well fed, and let them take showers. and even knowing max is a werewolf, he still didnt kill him.
It bothers me they were looking six years for Silas and he ends up being near the crash site at the beginning of the game and Travis is just like, “Well, never been here before.” SIX YEARS!!!
@@madladdie7069 It doesn’t change the fact that he said, “never been here before.” Like he didn’t even know that cage was there and it looked like it hadn’t been moved since the fire. And why didn’t you think that maybe check the place where the fire happened? I really like the game but holy crap.
@@MitchellFace This is just another plot hole, I think. He directly contradicts himself from earlier when he said he knew right where to look and he does lead them right to that spot. How would he know where to go if he didn't know any of it was there like he says right then? Nonsense.
@@treg5298 That one's explained pretty easily. He's driving to the spot where the first two veered off the road. Because in hindsight, they must've almost run over Silas. Gosh that would've been funny. They don't look up for a second longer, hit the wolf boy, Travis drives up and gets him with a silver bullet. Chaos avoided😀👍
The podcast is one of the worst ways they could’ve concluded this. I don’t know why we didn’t see someone who survived delivering the evidence to the cops. And their appropriate reaction depending on what you find. It’s just very undercooked. But still one of the better games they’ve made.
For sure, i don’t know why they made the podcast so terrible, they extended so much, and omg is Anton annoying, the most skeptical motherfucker leading a horror podcast? Like i wouldn’t watch that even if they paid me, suspend the believe a fucking ton, my dude 😤
Like House of Ash style. I think they wanted to try sth fresh, but why not make the good ending so that Ryan starts a podcast a year later and invite Dylan and the rest to talk about it. We can have some charater development moments or funny dialogues like how Emma tries to plug her socials, or Dylan became a programmer / mechanic and got himself a cool prosthetic etc. etc.
I thought there was going to be a scene at the camp where the characters are explaining to the cops what happened and showing all the evidence you as the player gathered. Would've been more interesting.
@@blackguy_134 yeah and it would be cool to see the cops reaction to all the bullshit that happened. Also though isn’t Travis the only cop in that town/county?
Fun Fact: If you didn’t find any evidence at all during the game, Grace and Anton will start indirectly roasting the player by calling them “lazy” and “they didn’t even try”.
Jacob is the only realistic character unironically 💀💀 except for those times the mf heard screaming and totally brushed it off. Somehow all the characters were so optimistic during all this shit like whattt
tbf hes the only one whos had that much alone time and his encounters were probably the most horrifying but shortest lived, so he had fk tons of downtime to just soak it all in and let the adrenaline die down. not to mention the guilt.
After seeing people in combat and other stressful situations... Yeah this is fairly accurate. Every person has their mechanism for handling dire situations. The vast majority of people have a sort of robot switch. They are not experiencing the events but trying to deflect the experience... Of course after the situation the majority then have to deal with what they dealt with as their mental walls start coming down.
There is one ending where you get to see them. If Ryan and Travis die, instead of going to hunt Silas she goes straight to Max and you actually get to see their reunion. She comments on his amazing outfit too.
Yikes that ending, so anticlimactic lol. I wish the characters would have at least gotten back together, like have an epilogue or something? They're all over the place, we didn't even see Nick turn back to a human, Jacob was last seen crying in the woods, Max and Laura didn't get reunited... Like idk, maybe there's an ending with all that but damn, we care about these people, show us what happens!
Exactly. A lot of people play story games in part because they want to connect with the characters. But how are we gonna get genuine closure when basically all of the characters don't get at least a final scene.
I tried to separate my distaste for the other Supermassive and Dark Pictures Games. For a while, I did. I even started to like some of these characters, which is something I’ve never been able to say about the previous games. But, in the end- just like all the others, including Until Dawn- Seán was really the only aspect I liked about The Quarry. One of my all time favorite actors, Lance Henricksen, was so criminally underutilized! Sure, he was only a supporting character in Detroit: Become Human as well, but Quantic Dream knew how to play to his strengths. *This game,* on the other hand, was a complete waste of his talent. These are just my opinions, by the way. For those who liked The Quarry, more power to you. I’ll probably watch Evelien play it next, but I’ll only be doing it for her.
I like how big bobby was able to shoot off his finger like it was nothing but when he got stabbed he was like, "ohhhh! I've never been stabbed before! It hurts, daddy!".
Jack: I'm a pacifist! I like saving people! *Jack's logic: one person in the family is dead, now I gotta kill all of them..* Jack: So anyways guys, time to save our people! *saves only the counselors and Travis*
I was kinda hoping to see more of the characters and how they interacted after it all ended. Like did Jacob ever tell them he messed up the car? What about Nick and Max? Stuff like that.
It felt way too abrupt but ...not in a "ran out of time" way? Like it felt really planned to have the game end that way but it was really disappointing
They knew there were werewolves lol. I'm assuming the point was that when in the forest, there was no time to explain anything. Just try to cover them in blood and continue trying to find the white wolf before it was dawn
tbf, it seemed like the whole family was undereducated and undersocialized. I got the impression that they just don't understand proper etiquette and were just trying to complete the mission they were given - keep the kids safe and don't get bit. They don't seem like they have the skills to think that they should tell the kids so the kids could help them.
Well, to be fair, charged doesn't mean convicted. Also if Ryan was able to send in information and proof to his favorite podcast they probably weren't convicted (plus the second news clip saying more info lead to the belief of their being unidentified animals causing harm).
I feel like they did not focus on that part enough at the end!! Jack seemingly forgot about it or at least he didn't read the newspaper articles on the computer screen
I feel so bad for Travis. He's trying so hard to protect everyone. His family, the counselors. Everything. He's been hunting down the main wolf that turned everyone so he can free everyone who was turned. This poor guy
It's kind of on him, most of the problems in this scenario comes from bad communication skills, if he could be the person that helps communicate that nobody's trying to get killed or kill anybody, and they're trying to solve a problem then none of this would have been an issue in the first place
@@dodhethompson4841 In part. He could've gone with the couple to make sure they stay at the motel. His brother Chris could've told the counselors that that night hunters would be taking care of rabies infected bears that were spotted in the area or some bs like that. Jacob could've accepted that his summer fling is over. But horror wouldn't work so well if the characters didn't all make mistakes that sensible people would avoid.
I feel like Dylan was the only character we really got to know. Like we found out he likes to do radio, that he wants to become a scientist (i think), that he puts on a different face in front of others... while everyone else we didn't see or hear that much about them. Laura and Max, we got a good amount, but not the amount we got from Dylan. We got a little from Ryan and Emma, learning that Ryan has been to Hackett's Quarry many times, and is good friends with Chris and his kids, Emma we found out that she likes to cheer people up, that she don't like to see people sad. Kaitlyn, Abi, Jacob and Nick we didn't get much out of. Dylan is my overall favorite. I love the sarcastic comments and jokes he always has
Exactly what I thought about the characters. I think that if they just gave some better scenes (rather then them just sitting around or worrying) we could have gotten more in depth.
Awkward but lovely relationship between Ryan and Dylan too. Wonder if it's possible to save all and keep arm. And shame they don't have reunite scenes like years after.
At the campfire you can ask kaitlynn about her life, while she's cagey at first she finally tells us she'd like to be a street performer I guess she loves the spotlight
People beef Jacob for nicking the rotor arm without knowing that the consequences would involve werewolves, but I have beef with Chris. Why would you schedule the end of camp to be just a few hours before the full moon? Any sensible organiser should at least leave 48 hours to ensure there's time for any vehicle malfunctions to be dealt with. Even if there aren't any simping jocks with a poor concept of boundaries fucking with your van, break downs can happen for a host of reasons. Jacob didn't know the stakes but Chris did. I feel like responsibility lies far more with him than it does with an emotionally immature 17/18 year old who doesn't know werewolves exist
Also the fact that there were still werevolwes on the FIRST DAY OF CAMP. Laura and Max arrived at camp when it was already past midnight, meaning that Chris had to greet the campers just few hours after he finished devouring the camp maskot. Who plans like that?? Literally just make the camp two days shorter! It's so dumb. The real villain wasn't Jacob or Silos, the villain was awful organisation.
Chris isn't the only Hackett to act stupid either. Mrs. Hackett clearly has poor common sense and no concept of gun safety. there is literally no other way that struggle could have ended. I also can't believe she would say "we don't want more blood on our hands and then *not* lock up the infected family members in her secure, electrified cages under the property for the night. The whole family is full of morons.
What I also wonder about is it seemed from earlier in the story that they were there for 2 months... so what happened on that full moon inbetween? the one where Max scratched Laura's eyeball out. How did Chris guarantee the campers safety?
@@cassandrathomas6015 Remember there were locks on the cabin doors. If that isn't enough remember how Chris was locked up in the attic of the Hackett house. I am assuming, but if Chris wasn't disturbed by Ryan and Laura going up to the attic he probably would have stayed there for the rest of the night not breaking out of his chains. If the Chris not being bothered rule applies then it would work for that 1 night Max turns Werewolf.
@@kevinstephenson3531 Yeah, I'll agree with you on that. I do dislike that there's no way to take a path to killing all the Hacketts without player characters dying too. I don't mind that he's got a human form, but it does fly in the face of his role in the carnival. Only being able to be put on show 2 or 3 nights a month doesn't make for the best investment, especially with how dangerous it could be for someone to get a little too close to the bars.
@@ShaimingLong Given the "feral pale boy sighted up and down the coast" bit that Travis mentioned, I would assume that "human form Silas" at least had some obvious animal traits even outside of the full transformation. Yes, we see his form for a second at the end there, but it's probably his mannerisms, more than purely his appearance. And given how "weak" entertainment was back in the day and the fact that freak shows are often either just handicapped folks or fake, Silas just looking crazy wild and eating raw meat or something would probably suffice for visitors. Kinda wish they expounded on his actual origin a bit, tho. Probably the weakest part of the story that you go this whole "werewolf lineage with rules and shit" route, but then you keep going back in history, uncover all the werewolves and end at "yeah, this guy was just a werewolf all the time or something and his maybe-mom was a witch/ghost".
The ending is the only thing wrong with this game, no apology from Nick, no seeing how that relationship went, no confrontation with Jacob, no conclusion to Jacobs relationship, no kaitlyn slapping Jacob for stealing it, Jacob never saw Dylan’s hand, Ryan and Dylan/Kaitlyns is left open, there’s no reunion, no interrogation and they have you play as Max for a sec just for no one to ever see him again
Exactly. I didn’t really mind the podcast I fell like it’s kinda cool considering there’s actual podcast of unsolved crimes irl. The thing I didn’t like was the lack of reunion. Like the counselors couldn’t see each other, explain what the hell happened and finally reassure themselves that they were safe.
The first half of the podcast was kinda boring to me, but I enjoyed the second half. Though, I'd wish the ending was more like Until Dawn, where you see what the survivors are saying to the police.
Even just idk having footage play behind the podcast audio of characters who had connections to each other meeting again at sunrise, and a hint of the police finding them (typical horror flashing police lights showing up AT LEAST) more than just an Article saying they were arrested, and MAYBE released because of plausible deniability surrounding weird animal attacks. It just feels like a cop out
I didn't hate the podcast, I acc found it mildly amusing lol, but I definitely think it would've been much better to get interviews w/ the characters like in Until Dawn & House of Ashes. They could've just had the podcast as an extra feature for anyone who wanted to listen to it, rather than making it the only ending, & forcing you to listen to it during the credits.
Emma: "Maybe I just don't like to see other people sad" Is that why you kissed Nick specifically to upset both Jacob and Abi, and continued to egg Jacob on when he was already crying? Oh, Emma, you're so kind and altruistic...
Those werewolf encounters really did a number on her. She completely forgot who she was before it, lol. I think they were trying to go for a redemption arc possibly but it does feel strange
I like how Jack even correctly guessed that the other option for Max would have him swim across the lake and get killed before he finds anyone else (he gets killed immediately upon exiting the lake if you choose to him swim). Man basically wrote this game.
If Travis had just told them who he was from the start and been like, “Yeah, that’s my brother. I know he’s not up there right now so y’all should go to this motel instead.” a lot of shit could’ve been avoided.
This game started SO STRONG. I agree with Sean on alot of points, but the ending?! We didn't get to see everyone reunited, and then that "podcast" was painful. It felt very rushed. :(
@@tiffanydesireedahlia3141 That's so strange! You'd think they'd want everyone to see that ending and make other things or dialog more specific? Ah well.
@@saraharnold2059 That's kind of the point of having choices that actually affect things in this game, you really shouldn't take Jacks playthrough as the whole experience this game has to offer. His is just one path.
The podcast at the end actually was painful to get through. I don't think I have ever wanted a game to get to the fucking point more than at that point.
@@xKiittyWhitex true but let's say for instance you didn't get much evidence or there isn't must sponsors to show, then in that case how much longer can two people go at talking about something that they don't have enough evidence to show is bizarre yet bonifide
Honestly their story couldve made for a really kickass movie: one where the main couple is a werewolf and a werewolf slayer trying to save him, maybe have a scene or two where she has to fight him or he has to hold himself back, and a scene where he fights another werewolf to save her, etc
I have three things that disappoint me about this game: No one interacts after the night ends, some of the characters lose purpose after a certain point, and the werewolves don't really look like werewolves in my opinion. They look like the wendigos from Until Dawn. I couldn't even tell the 'white wolf' was supposed to be white, I didn't see a difference.
Same! They lit just look like they 'repainted' the Wendigos. They didn't even look remotely wolfy... Incredily bizarre to me. They could've just made up some creatures and it would've been more interesting, really. That sort of broke the immersion for me whenever I saw the creatures... I was like, 'is this werewolves...?' Maybe they just didn't want to animate fur or something? Even so, give 'em a snout or something with some crazy fangs, idk.
Jacob and Emma were victims of the determinant fate. Early deaths mean less content. Nick is even worse, literally just gone for 90% of the game and only one possible death. After Laura is brought back, the rest of the game is dropped entirely. It’s like if once The Stranger showed up in Until Dawn, he became the main character and brought Chris along and they were the only people who mattered.
@@hotdog8109 they planned to focus on Laura it seems but their game formula is the exact opposite with multiple characters in focus so they did as little as possible with them until Laura came back
"Or just a way out maybe? I'm done being chased... and stabbed." Yeah, you can tell that this night has been hell for Ryan by the sheer number of times he came dangerously close to accidentally expressing an emotion.
As a nurse- anything penetrating the lung, major arteries, or the brain- NO TOUCHY. Anything else is a 50/50 chance Also the shot at Ma was perfectly portrayed in graphics!!
I don’t care. Nothing will top the HYPE that the ending of Until Dawn had. Seeing every character meet up again, the music, the monsters, trying to get everyone out the house. it was just SO GOOD. i just wish this game had that character development so you can get excited about saving all the characters.
@@idontcareaboutyouropinion8494 what are you talking about? Of course it does, you can save characters or kill all of them, its your choice, i mean i know supermassive games are not on the same level as detroit become human, but still
@@idontcareaboutyouropinion8494 bruh what do you mean the game is literally a choices game ofc they matter. There is a lot of hype because we actually had character development to the characters and having these beloved characters meet back up again after actually surviving to the end is so rewarding.
Travis: We can still save Caleb, he’s all that’s left of my family. We just have to kill Silas. Mr. Septiceye: Right, right, right, of course. *Caleb enters* Oh this one must be Caleb. Pass me the silver bullets, ladies
You can actually save Caleb, Kaitlyn, AND Dylan simultaneously. However, this requires Kaitlyn to get infected in Chapter 9. If she is infected, all you have to do is miss the QTE to shoot Caleb with the silver bullets and that's it.
I'm genuinely annoyed that there's no ending like in Until Dawn where they're all being interviewed by police. I would really have liked to see what happens when they all get back together at the lodge...Jacob is just in the woods crying...Kaitlyn and Dylan are around...we don't get to see Max and Laura reunite...Even though we got the curse of the fortuneteller as a kind of overarching storyline, it felt unfinished. Like they just didn't want to write the ending
You can see Max and Laura if you pick the choice where Max leaves the island. Its riskier and can get him killed but he can survive it and they reunite there.
@@vexkelclover You could argue that since the article changed to "unidentified animal loose in North Kill Forrest" they were set free after the initial inverstigation.
I was really expecting interviews like in Until Dawn where they explained the evidence to the police, and then you would get a different post credit scene depending on if you found enough/“good” evidence.
So earlier in the game everyone was saying that if Bobby had just talked to the campers a lot of this could have been sorted out quicker and it kind of felt like a plot hole in the game but after "Ow! You stabbed me! That really hurts! DAAAAD." I 100% believe that just straight up didn't occur to Bobby to try talking
Bobby really feels like Lenny from of mice and men. He’s very strong but kind of naive with the whole “ow you stabbed me” thing. Like… he just seems like he’s not all there. And the overalls he’s wearing also make a good reference to Lenny too.
Bobby wasn't the only one with an opportunity to talk to them though... but the biggest plot hole for me is the family having electrified cages, but they don't turn inside of it
If I had to guess I think he has a developmental disorder or at least is a very big stupid idiot like the horror movie stereotype of “ very big strong guy who acts very “childish”/isn’t very well socialized”
I don’t know if jack will see this but when you choose whether to swim or stay for max. If you choose to swim and he swims across he dies immediately a painful death to the werewolves. Your pure good choice skills paid out dude.
Its somewhat strange that they didn’t put max in the end scene of “who died and who lived”. Or maybe I just missed it. Idk. The ending felt a little premature. A lot of potential left on the table.
@@NewbGamingNetworks max is in the end "alive and dead" sequence- first one they show :) i totally agree about the ending though. yeah it was technically done but it still felt abrupt somehow?
I'm not surprised tbh. Max didn't really seemed like a character who could fend for himself or think things through. And without a weapon or a clue about what's going on, he would die pretty quick.
I really hope the game designers learn from what people REALLY liked about this game, and what people were disappointed by. They create such interesting stories, I can’t wait for them to make one thats amazing the entire way through
I find it awful how Silas' mother kept her son in the cage and showcased, but then whined about how "her poor boy suffered". Yeah, he did. Even before the fire.
I really wonder how he became a werewolf. Was he born a werewolf? Was he bitten by yet another werewolf that’s still out there? Or did did his witch mother curse him for freakshow purposes? How bad a mother was she really? The Hacket kids broke him out of his cage just before he turned werewolf so there is nothing to suggest that she kept him in that cage all the time. For all we know she could have been locking him in that cage only on nights with a full moon to keep him and the rest if the world safe. But using him for a freakshow did not exactly deserve the award for best mother of the year
@@VleesetendPlantje14 totally agree, it is all very interesting. But wait, now that I think of it, if the kids wanted to save the werewolf, doesn't that mean that he was probably in the cage most of the time or at least poorly treated? Otherwise, he could've escaped sooner by himself. Just thoughts, though... But yeah... "My boy is turning into a monster every full moon? Wellp, time to make me some money" x-x
the fact that the mascot is a sheep and the counciler is a werewolf is basically referencing the quote "Wolf in sheep's clothing". That's really clever.
This game is inconsistent and incoherent sometimes. One moment you get something that's very cool and clever, as you said, and the next moment, You get the weirdest things you've ever seen.
I liked that idea with the motion sensor lights, that could be interesting for other horror games or movies, you can see a light turning on in the distance which means a motion sensor has been triggered but it’s far away so you can’t see whether it’s the monster or other people And then you see other lights turning on on the monsters path, it creates suspense, which way will the monster go? Which light will turn on next?
Dylan saying to swim in the lake all night was so satisfying for me, like once I learned that they can’t go in water I’d be sat out in a boat or a pool floaty with a couple beers watching them howl at me, then just wait to see if Silas pops up so I can pop a cap in him
I would do the same thing, but I'd have a way to get them to piss off, like put batteries in the megaphone or just have anything that can make really high frequency sounds. Hell even a fucking violin would work. I dont know what a werewolf would do to get across water and I'm not keen on finding out lmao.
I love that the only things Jacob did in Jack’s play through was: Strand everyone, get mad, strip naked, lose the rotor arm, fail to help Abi or Nick, abandon Emma twice, get his foot caught in a bear trap, get knocked out and imprisoned, and then get released only to wander off into the woods and break down crying. Way to go Jacob, really putting that machismo to work 🤣
At the end I felt bad for Jacob. He must, Canon wise, feel terrible guilt for what he did. If you killed any player imagine how low he would feel realizing he wanted one last night with Emma got people killed Fuchs you up. Could only imagine if had a game play where Emma dies dude would loose his it permanently I woukd assume. Also any of his deaths are sad, either drowns in the lake if you get him stuck, mauled by any of the werewolves, turns into a werewolf himself, or do the bear trap chioce wrong and he goes head first into the trap next to him. Or lives and cries in the woods till the sun comes up.
Jack: "I think this is a red herring; these guys are actually trying to help me" *hides, runs away, and does everything in his power to avoid them* Jack: "I'm a pacifist!" *decides to kill the entire Hackett family including non-cursed*
It seems that if you dont kill the two parents they just get mauled by werewolves anyway. So maybe its not blood on the councilors hands but they end up dead anyway.
Man the podcast credits thing was awful lmao. They should've done the same thing in Until Dawn with like the police interviews with all the survivors. Oh well, loved the series!
They leaned more unto the internet aspect this time, but also with the VHS motif. It's kinda all over the place, and we didn't even get interactions from the characters post-game.
That’s actually kinda what I was hoping for. I noticed that it said psycho teenagers arrested so maybe if you find every piece of evidence then they wont be arrested or something. Also I think jack should definitely replay until dawn considering I was thinking about rewatching his until dawn series any way
I know you can save the rest of the family and kids which is interesting how you can but i don't really care either, Travis was the only one i cared about lol
Regarding the lack of character development: I just realized we also never found out how/why Ryan grew close with the Hacketts. The moments where he seemed suspicious felt like they were leading to somewhere and then never did. It was just "Chris is a good man." that wasn't enough for me to want to save Chris
Mentioned at the start that ryan looked up to him because he was having family issues as he didn't have his parents and thus saw chris as a father figure (we can easily assume - though he does have his grandparents) - moreover he has gone to the camp many times and has spent time with chris's kids again as mentioned at the very begin of the game - from what we can understand the camp is the only real escape ryan has from his home life
@@reelgesh51 that's fair, I just wish that story was told better, or that the bond between him and the family felt more genuine or something. It fell a little flat for me, but maybe that's partly because it's a horror game and I was expecting some kind of twist that never happened lol
The podcast in the credits was god awful. I was really hoping there was going to be a police interrogation at the end since the game has you collecting clues and evidence the whole time. Dylan is my favorite character throughout the game because of the creative ways he fought back against the werewolves such as the radio cabin, using the crane in the scrapyard and using a blowtorch to fight one off.
EXACTLY. I was expecting something like at the end of untill dawn. Who the fuck cares if some conspiracy podcast is gonna be the ones getting the clues md mot the police, which would have determined if the characters we wanted to keep alive end up in a jail cell or get to prove to the world about it all.
Solution: Just sit in the goddamn canoes all night. No hypothermia, and in the middle of the water where no wolves can reach. There are SO MANY canoes that they've been running past
or if the hunters talked to them and said "hey, some shits going down you need to come with us." I guess the counselors might not believe them, but they will after the first or second werewolf attack.
The “I hear you breathing, little girl” was a bluff, kinda like how when I get home late at night I yell at my imaginary robbers to make sure they’re scared lol
I wish Nick got more time as a werewolf vs friends, increase that tension that every wolf that you kill has a chance to be your friend. They kinda just had him jump out the window and he was forgotten.
That had potential for some cool dramatic moments, like a chase scene where you have the option to shoot him with silver, but you need to make some difficult choices to escape without killing him.
Dylan definitely favorite character. And that whole scene in the scrapyard *chefs kiss*. Dylan was the only one to have creative ways to take out the creatures, the radio feedback and dropping the car. Everyone else had to use one of the two guns. Also, what i find really funny is that we all got a sense that Kaitlyn knew how to use a gun and only fired one shot at the werewolves at the very end, come to think of it she was probably the least helpful in the story after Chris. Which is a shame since i liked her character.
@@iarbaaz yea and like why would u say what part to take out to screw up the car, it was really obvious that he wanted to stay another night. Everything that happened to them, happened bc he wanted some more love
@@carnuatus Nah, i did as well. Partly because i thought i could ship Chris and Kaitlyn since emma was being very toxic to chris but Kaitlyn and Chris had great chemistry.
How did Chris, resident werewolf who hates water, not think to suggest "hey kids, why don't you park it on the island tonight? My treat?" Boom, no werewolfy threat to them (they'd have met laura and max and then thought hey let's stay on a boat then)
That's actually smart, then they could've looked for Silas without worrying about killing the family or getting infection themselves if everyone they knew was on the island lol
Or all the infected could just go on the island instead ? Bring everyone else to the Hacketts’ house, only Silas left to hunt in the woods ? Dunno, lots of much safer possibilities than just, scrapyard, chained to a wall ESPECIALLY since they like had cages -_- meant for the weres as well. It was quite painful
Why not park the kids on a boat? Like "hey there's gonna be dangerous stuff in the woods tonight, take the party boat". Or park the known werewolves on a boat(s) and the kids on the island.
Bc staying in the lodge would have done the same thing, lock the doors, stay inside. The only threat even remotly close by was Caleb and he would not just go to the lodge for no reason, the hunters would've dealt with it and kept them safe if they didn't have to worry about stupid kids running around. Also max was already bit and in the island. Also they would've had the party anyway and it would've led to everything that happens in the game anyway
i felt bad for ryan at first when there was that whole "the group is bored of ryan", but by the end, i understood why they were bored of him. its really a shame that they didnt give more to building ryan and dylans relationship, it feels weird to include it if it leads nowhere. dylan and kaitlyns dynamic actually ended up being my favourite to watch, and dylan ended up being my favourite character. i think i just like goofy guys lmao its a shame we didnt really get to see nicks character very much, but that was understandable considering what happened.
I totally agree, but at the same time, I still kind of ship Dylan and Ryan. I think it would've been fun to see their relationship develop a little more than them just talking and hanging out a tiny bit with Dylan doing all the flirting, and then Ryan cutting off his hand.
His character was so bland and dry for me, his monotone voice didn't really help either. He was also acting so much like a teacher's pet in the beginning... I ship them but like they didn't really interact that much either... Dylan's my favorite too. He had more depth to him.
100% agree. nick was my favorite at first (mostly because he's aussie, i can't lie) but dylan's optimistic and banter-y disposition, especially after getting his fucking hand chopped off, really grew on me so much that he ended up being my favorite by the end. i found him snooty at first, but now i absolutely adore him.
Tbh I've seen this actor in other things and I'm ALWAYS like "I want to root for you, but you're so boring". He always talks like this and has v few facial responses. Worse yet is in the description of the game he's supposed to be the MAIN CHARACTER. WTF. Hes marked as "stoic" and "humurous" WTF
but have you considered if his arm was cut off? then how would that make him stronger? he'd just bleed a lot then have to adapt to a one-armed life that doesn't make him stronger! and what if-
Well he does have a point, it's a stupid saying. I think the motto may be referring to the werewolf 'infection' though. Cause if the werewolf kills you you won't turn. If it doesn't kill you but makes you turn then that would be making you 'stronger'. I don't know it could have to do with the people who have healed from the werewolf bites, like the girl from the first scene was made stronger from being turned.
Ryan could have easily been the “Josh” (Until Dawn) of The Quarry. He had such a strong attachment to the Hackett family. There could have been scenes where certain decisions made it so Ryan betrays the counselors in order to protect the werewolves. Then maybe some insight of why he is so close to the Hackett family besides just spending time at the camp with them.
he has the option to not kill Chris which results in his death, which is really lacking a bit as far as what choosing to kill a man he truly respects should cause him to go through. Definitely some wasted potential
I could tell pretty quickly that Chris Hackett was a kind of surrogate father for Ryan, hence his hesitation later, but they reeeaaaally didn't establish that or execute it very well. The only scenes that had for that, that I can remember, was when Chris had Ryan join him in the office to talk and Ryan mentioned his home life and what not, the few times he mentioned he knew Chris and his kids pretty well, as well as had stayed at that camp for years, and with his hesitation to kill Chris, even as a werewolf. Nothing else. Not even some distress after shot Chris (assuming you chose that route). Among other poor execution for other stuff but I digress. Even though it didn't seem like he was in on anything to me, the potential to use him in a more antagonist role, even if it's more on the neutral side, would have been nice as well as make sense with his character. As well as the opportunity for Dylan to be used as a reason for Ryan to have more of a reason to choose the group over the Hackett family. I mean, the options would be The Hacket Family you have known for years and has helped your dire family situations a bit over the years vs some kids you worked with for 2 months that kinda made fun of you from time to time, or The Hacket Family you have known for years and has helped your dire family situations a bit over the years or your love interest that has shared trauma with you. Bit more incentive.
@@alektasdiarydump I think if Ryan chooses truth during truth or dare Emma asks him what he and Chris talked about in Chris’ office. If Ryan chooses to answer truthfully he says Chris gave him life advice and the segment kind of alludes to how Chris has been an important and helpful figure in Ryan’s life (as his home life is difficult and he has no father figure other than Chris) but yeah it wasn’t very well established
I agree. I think I like watching his playthroughs the most because his choices are usually the closest to what I would have made and it makes it feel even more immersive
was kind of a bummer when he killed the whole hackett family though, even though they were weird. they probably wouldn't have attacked if he didn't blow their matriarchs face off. (idk for sure i haven't seen any other playthroughs)
Honestly that Silas shooting scene is pretty genius. It felt weird at start, but after thinking about it, the "ghost" was trying to mess with their head all the time. Trying to make them doubt their choices. By giving the player multiple prompts to shoot, the player also starts to doubt if shooting is the right option. A wrap up would have been nice to have though.
That's why I love the old lady/hag/Eliza's character so much. Throughout the entire game, she's both helping us, the player, and also speaking to the players as ghostly whispers to mess with them and also try to guide them. But as it develops and the more we see from her "visions", it becomes clear that she's trying to guide the player to do her bidding. She can't do what she wants (kill the Hacketts) so she has to use us. She's trying to be a puppet master.
@generichuman2044 this is because the game has a lot of bad writing in it. They needed Max to be a playable character. So for that to happen, he needs at least one death scene, and it's not even good. Honestly, Max is a good enough character without it. He didn't need to be playable. Or at least give him more than one death, or something! What's the point of making an extra character playable if it adds nothing? I thought Max should leave because he could find Jacob and help him 😭
First of all, love the series and largely agree with the praise and criticism but there is one thing I think Jack missed. Ezra was actually more connected to the story to me than the Psycologist in Until Dawn. She is actually attempting to influence both the player and the counselors to kill off the Hackett family and I find that fascinating. She is the one that guided Laura and Max to the fire site in the first place, shows Laura and Max where the silver bullets are, and even comments that "one vermin is gone" when Kaylee is killed. Of course it gets more obvious after that but even if you think about the kinds of futures the cards show they are often showing how to kill the Hacketts in human or werewolf form. She is actually the biggest misdirect in the game since you shouldn't listen to her if you want to save the most lives.
Agree, but the main piece of evidence you can do is that, in until dawn, the psychologist is actually not real, just a hallucination by Josh in his mind so of course he won’t have a massive impact on the plot. It’s just a way to show how Josh is losing his mind throughout the game even if you don’t know at first.
Yeah2. The psychologist in Until Dawn was just a storyteller. But now, the storyteller becomes an influencer. It does not merely tells stories but also shifting an influence
I got abi killed because of that 💀. I made her run to the stairs instead of the ladder bc I thought that if she went up the ladder to escape from Emma then it would break and she would die but I got her killed anyway
i love how at 1:46:09 the lady was saying how she was gonna haunt you for the rest of your life and how she will never leave you and jacks like "bet friends for life 😁"
@kevinstephenson3531 yeah, it would've been cool to have her in the credits or maybe even just a forced jumpscare at the end or in the credits...the threat was just so empty
That shotgun scene with the mom had to of been the most gruesome, disgustingly realistic thing i have ever seen in a video game, i mean that blew my mind completely.
I agree that Until Dawn still holds the #1 spot, but The Quarry did end up being an entertaining 'watch' regardless. However, there did appear to be a few holes in TQ's story/actions that just felt like they didn't make sense and had me questioning multiple times what was going on and why certain things happened. Maybe this is just how you played your playthrough Jack, but I also felt there were less unexpected risky situations. From memory, Until Dawn had a lot more 'shock factor', where things just weren't expected from making small actions and had more gripping entertainment value. TQ felt very much like your standard horror film and one of the only shocking parts was when the mum got her face taken off. Great game either way; just had some holes and lacked unexpected substance in some areas.
agreed, even after watching 2 people's playthroughs (admittedly making a lot of the same choices, but still with some big differences) i have multiple unanswered questions.
I agree! There were times when I was making decisions totally thinking I was gonna get someone killed later, but a lot of the choices honestly seemed completely inconsequential in the end.
@@jos-josradvanji6203 Why not? It would have been properly split up, therefore not been such a lengthy segment, and it would have made the weird ghost subplot unnecessary.
@@EldritchMcPie because the podcast was boring as hell. the ghost lady was at least cool and actually provided us with something to do (aka gathering the cards). Similarly did the curator by asking about our fears. The podcast duo would've just talked which would've provided nothing. Plus it wouldn't have made much sense to have them talk as the things occur because it wouldn't make sense for them to know or have any of the evidence we just gathered.
I was kinda hoping that Eliza, the "hag of HQ" would actually turn out to have been there in the woods for those 6 years and she'd like run out and try to stop you more than just very quietly whispering "my boy". I think more people wouldn't have killed Silas if there was actual like pressure from a person on you not to do it
If she would turn out to be alive, then she would have just kill the Hacketts herself, or maybe she could even plan this whole night by sabotaging the van instead of Jacob lol
This ending feels like the Devs needed another 6-12 months but some dude in a suit walked into the studio and said "Nope, we have to release it this year!". Easily one of the worst endings from all their recent games combined. I still think this is their second best game after Until Dawn. I heard this is supposed to be their last (horror) game. I hope that's not true, please do more games like this & Until Dawn.
This won't be their last horror game because they're already continuing the "Dark Picture Anthology" with the new game "The Devil in Me" wich trailer released a few days ago
The ending felt a bit rushed. At least one small scene of everyone back together hugging it out was definitely a must. For sure there were some cringey lines of dialogue but overall I enjoyed the game !! Thank you for sharing the whole thing with us Jack
I agree. I was expecting Eliza to be the last boss of the game because of her taunts. Also the way they found Silas is just... So flat. No last epic confrontation whatsoever. All those build ups ended so poorly Edit: i also have to mention that I at least, expected Silas to be big white wolf or have different features.. but it seems like they just use the same model for all the werewolves :/
It really does feel like the choices in this game do not make that much of a difference, or if they do, they are connected in the most bizarre way possible. Half the time you make a choice, the character doesn't do what the option said it was going to make them do. Like Jacob being in the woods. It gives you a choice to either call out or stay quiet. Even if you stay quiet, he still calls out "Hello?" seconds after you made the choice. And here, giving Laura the chance to run. She stands still while the man gets back up, gathers himself, and pulls a gun on her once more. She doesn't even leave that room. I understand people put a lot of work into the character models and the scenery in this game is beautiful. But the writing feels somewhat lazy, like the choices are more so "personality quirks," rather than a relevant option for story development. The story just goes in its own direction most of the time, completely disregarding the paths it gives you. Even holding your breath. It's displayed in the tutorial as having a major role to the overall outcomes. And yet, you hold your breath, the character immediately runs out while the antagonist is still in the area, and they get chased anyway. So, basically, no matter what you decide to do, be it the "smart" choice, or the "dumb" choice, the character will still commit to a terrible decision without the player's control. To me, it ultimately just feels like cheap writing. If you're going to give me choices, then at least let them make somewhat of an impact to the story of each character. Sorry about the length of this comment, but this is my biggest criticism. I feel enough folks talked about the ending, but this is what bothered me most, truly.
i agree! continuity with their animations and choices is what really gets me. dylan's a prime example since he literally loses his hand; if you played through and didn't cut it off, he still never fully uses it, he continues to fumble around. i understand it takes so much time to animate and design alternative cut scenes and models along with respective movements and animations, but it feels so lazy. the game genuinely forces you into either killing off the characters based on poor choices (whether that be by your own hand, or through forced scenarios like having to call out despite not choosing to) OR you can let them live then never see them give the storyline any further depth. you spend so much time bonding and trying to keep all of their relationships in tact for absolutely nothing to come out of it - no reunions or follow up whatsoever in the end. i really appreciate how gorgeous the game is at times but how can you expect players to enjoy it and want to seek out the alternative options and paths if doing so provides absolutely no difference from the main direction the story takes?
Yeah. I would’ve loved it if you had a route where you actually save Nick instead of running away even tho you chose help and that results in Nick transforming and killing Abi and getting let loose, this causes him to not be captured by the Hackett family members
@@crypt7cmsp actually at the scrapyard if Dylan drops the torch(fail the second qte) he would reach for it with his left hand, so no hand means he'll die. Cutting his hand off will actually greater his chances of dying as well
Out of all the characters I think Emma is the only one who could have 2 different paths in the game, first is when shes with abi and then with Jacob at the end. The rest pretty much have the same ending or can just die early
The thing about these games are that they have so many endings and so many choices. I really hope Sean makes another video even though this is the end.
fun fact! if you hadn’t amputated Dylan’s hand, he turns into a werewolf after the fight scene in the scrapyard, and he desperately begs Kaitlyn to escape when he realises what’s happening.
@@Red-S-267 If Abi doesn’t break into the cabin to get their bags, apparently it changes what happens to the wire in the radio hut so instead of it getting pulled, it gets knocked out of place and the werewolf won’t be on the roof but it will instead go after Kaitlyn, Nick, and Abi and Ryan has to stop it which means that Dylan won’t get bit
@@Squibblerboo Oh, that's what the difference was. Dylan didn't get attacked when I played, and for the life of me I couldn't think of what I did differently from Sean.
@@keepthebeat929 Yeah, it’s honestly amazing how a choice that seems so small and unimportant has major consequences later on. There’s also a chance that Dylan and Kaitlyn can be killed by a werewolf Caleb in the kitchen of lodge if Abi doesn’t break into the cabin to get the stuffed animal and the player chooses to hide I believe instead of investigating because the toy is used by Abi to distract Caleb and get him away from them
I really like what they did at the end with Silas. The mom didn’t want you to kill him and the game actually managed to make you question if you should as if the mom was really in your head trying to stop you. That was amazingly cool and well done.
Fr it was very cool. Ive never seen a game try to manipulate your choices so heavily before that was crazy. I wish more games would be creative like that and mess with the player and make them question their morales/choices. That’d be sick.
@@annammatilda I believe not raising the gun there, gets travis shot and killed as he tries to take the gun himself. Jack wouldn't have wanted travis dead (me neither ngl)
My biggest question is why didn't Travis did tell them that Silas was the one that needed to be killed? Laura wouldn't have been focused on Chris in that case and he probably would still be alive...am I missing something?
I’m thinking either Travis was hoping Laura and Max wouldn’t figure out it was Chris who bit Max which makes him stupid cause as Laura said herself it was kinda glaringly obvious orrr it’s just a plot hole
They haven't found Silas in years, so no point in looking for him. Laura figured Travis was protecting the werewolf in the basement, which is Chris. She overheard the brothers arguing about the incident and she immediately went for Chris. I don't think Laura will believe Travis if he ever talks about Silas, and if so Ryan is the only who saw Silas. Besides, they only have one night to end the curse and finding Chris is way easier, at least for her( That final scene where they face silas was very underwhelming )
I think that; like we know, Silas hadn’t been in that area in years. He’s most likely very far away, further than they could ever hope to reach him in one night of looking. Chris bites max, so travis has to try and fix the situation, because he’s a good guy and isn’t about to kill a couple of twenty something year olds to cover up their secret. He didn’t want to tell them what was going on, but when Laura said they knew max was a werewolf, that plan was out the window. So now, he knew they knew. If they knew, why not try to make the best of the situation? He feels he alone is keeping the family together and desperately wants to find Silas and end the nightmare. So, he shows Laura Max’s transformation, and shows max the recording of that. He’s trying to get them on his side. He gives Laura the poem which holds the information of the werewolves: the infectious bite, shunning of water etc. (Meaning Laura now knows, if she kills the werewolf who bit max, he’ll be cured) But, travis doesn’t tell them about Chris being the werewolf in the bunker. Travis doesn’t want to put a giant target on his brothers back, so he comes up with a lie about "not being able to kill the wolf, cuz he was trying to protect them". This seems to work somewhat, so he gives her the offer of hunting the head werewolf (I’m pretty sure the white werewolf *is* mentioned in the poem, so technically she does know about it, and since she didn’t know then that Chris was the one who bit max, finding Silas seemed like her best shot at curing max). She considers it, although max doesn’t trust travis and thinks they can’t believe what he says (after all, he had kept them locked up for 2 months). It seems like Laura’s going to take Travis up on the offer, but then Chris shows up. She overhears their conversation and figures out that Chris is the werewolf responsible for turning max. Well hallelujah, there’s their ticket. Why waste time on finding the head wolf that’s already long gone, that they may never find, when Chris is right there? Sure it’s sort of immoral, but she loves her boyfriend and wants to help him. If she needs to kill someone then so be it (in game, when talking to Ryan, she seems he’ll bent on ending Max’s cure that night. She REALLY didn’t want to be stuck until the next full moon). Travis doesn’t know they heard his conversation, so he’s non the wiser to their plan of killing Chris. So, they trick travis and escape the station. Now, when at the camp, she’s trying to find him. Travis never has a chance to try and talk her down. Even if he did, how would he convince her? "Hey, please don’t shoot my brother. I know you both have a future planned together and want to cure max ASAP and shooting my brother now would achieve that, but why not /not/ do that, and instead help us hunt the head wolf that we haven’t seen for 6 years and have no real proof of his existence?" I don’t think it’s very convincing and Ma probably wouldn’t want that either. Laura killed her sweet Kaylee after all. Ma would probably be very hostile towards her, so Laura really wouldn’t have much of a reason to trust travis. I think the game could have been better, and maybe certain plot points should have been explained clearer (and all in all the lack of communication from the hacketts is very infuriating, especially since there’s no real reason for it. I think the story should have been thoroughly analysed to prevent plot holes and unclear motives, like for an example; why the fuck they would run a summer camp near their hunting grounds and for what reason they thought it would be a good idea to end camp on the day of the full moon? (Also the fact that camp was 2 months long: meaning that there should have been a full moon in the middle of camp, which makes 0 sense (it’s even seen when Laura and max are locked up at the police station))) But I certainly enjoyed it and this particular part of the story doesn’t really bother me. Sure it could’ve been explained better, but when you think about it, it does make sense.
In the poem he did tell her that it started from the “white wolf”, however Laura seems to be so angry towards Chris and Travis that she only hears that if the wear wolf who infected the individual dies, the individual is cured. I don’t know where laura got the idea that Chris was the first werewolf Honestly if everyone just listened to the Travis and Chris Hackett much of this could have been avoided.
That podcast ending was the most dreadful, boring and exhausting ending to a game ever. The developers had such a great opportunity to close the game with the characters handing evidence to the police and then the final ending (if they go to jail or not) depending on how much evidence they got. The game was pretty good until the end, it completely undid every good part of the game. But a great play-through on Jack’s part
I was really hoping they'd do a thing like Until Dawn did where our main characters are talking about what happened afterwards. Especially Jacob, I wanted to see him just sit there and be like, "idk what happened but whoops"
As a bear I was massively offended by it, we’re actually pretty chill and usually only attack in self defence or if we’re extremely hungry, not everything is our fault!
Like I know because they’re werewolves it would be very cliché for them to guess wolves but wolves can be a lot bigger than people expect and how thin they are matched how thin these werewolves are.
my goodness. After everything this game showed, ending it with that “podcast” was undeniably the most boring thing ever. And i agree with everyone disappointed about having no character reunion at the end.
Guess they had to tie in Ryan's supernatural podcast comments earlier in the game somewhere, though I would've preferred an outro like the Dark Pictures Anthology with the Hag of Hackett's Quarry making statements about the end result depending on how much evidence you found or how many cards you had.
@@benkinsey13 yeah, i think the concept of using the podcast to discuss all the evidence the player found is pretty interesting; it all just came down to execution. Because like Jack said, they were saying everything that you would normally cut out from a podcast lmao
@@vaniatalithacastro6908 I guess it depends on what your type of humour is I quite enjoy casual humour and the conversation between the two sounded like something I would say to my friends lol

Hey Jack! Around 1:07:35 when you were upset about the quiet forest, you might not know but a fun fact is if you're ever in the forest and it goes silent like that, it means there's a top predator around ! So most likely all the birds and animals on the island learned there was a Werewolf around and gtf outta there lol
@@deepfriedeggnog6937 that actually IS true, lmao. it depends obviously, but jungles, forests, etc can go very silent if there is a top predator in close proximity. the opposite does also happen though, in which there is a large amount of noise as animals warn each other, but as the predator continues to approach, they go to hide, and that is when the silence occurs. not really sure why you immediately went "that isn't true at all" tbh.
@@kaiaros No, it's not. Creatures in the forest go silent for all sorts of reasons, and they all have different predators. Just because you hear crickets chirping, it doesn't mean a mountain lion isn't about to bite the back of your neck. Stop spreading misinformation.
@@deepfriedeggnog6937 That's literally how it works my guy. If something that can possibly eat you is walking around you're gonna be quiet. And like the others said it obviously depends on the inhabitants and the predator but, experienced hikers and such will tell you that pure silence means big bad nearby.
The Hackett's are so frustrating because they all had so many opportunities to just TALK to the counsellors and try and explain what was happening. The hunters came across Jacob so many times, and instead of saying, "Hey, bro, we're here to help you" they poured blood on his face, hit him, and locked him in a cage. Same goes for Kaitlyn in the lodge. And how was Laura to know that the werewolf she shot wasn't Chris, when no one told her that there was more than one Hackettwolf? So much death could have been prevented just by using communication skills instead of scare tactics. And that doesn't even touch on how many deaths the Hackett's presumably covered up. We know about the missing hikers and the cars being disappeared "off the books." And what kind of crazy people welcome hoards of summer campers into that situation? You have three werewolves in your family and you decide to have a bunch of children and idiot teenagers right next door? What the hell? Okay, I'm done justifying my massacre of an entire family.
yep its the "idiot plot" trope. The plot falls apart if any of the characters doesn't behave like an idiot and communicates anything clearly. Also....that summer camp lasts what? two months? They say in the game that full moons happen once a month? So there was a full moon DURING the campers stay? Did they keep them ALL inside one night?
For the summer camp question, the answer is probably simply keeping their livelihood. The summer camp was established in 1953, well before 2015 when Caleb was bitten and passed on the curse to his other family members. We see from the evidence in-game that the Hackett family was struggling financially. They probably couldn't afford to shut down the summer camp. What I wished the game answered though was what they did during the full moon that happened when camp was in session. The camp went for two months, so there would have been a full moon during that time.
Yeah I don’t understand why they didn’t just move the dates of summer camp to add buffer days between the full moons. Why does camp start 1 day after a full moon and end 1 day before it? NO leeway whatsoever if anything goes wrong. That’s stupid.
To be honest I thought the same as you but like... thinking about it..? Ryan probably would’ve took a gun and been like NAH SHUT UP UR A LIAR!!! Like he doesn’t even care for proof he’s always skeptic. And when he does this no one stops him they just say “oh it’s up to you man!!” Like Kaitlyn to Ryan when he was aggressive to Laura’s story
This. The writing is just so... poor. The characters were mostly decent, but the story just falls apart with a hard enough nudge. You could have explanations and still keep the element of tension going!
I just had this thought, Dylan just lost his hand for nothing cause the one who infected him was Kaylee, and now she's dead and it's funny how Jack still didn't realize it.
No, it was not Kaylee. Because if it was Kaylee he would not have transformed later in the car graveyard. But it is better to not cut his hand since he doesn't put anyone at risk with his transformation. But did you notice on the last scene where they show he survived that he has now almost no arm? How did that happen?
@@saadomer5402 check the time 1:48:04. I don't know if it is my eyes, but he has almost no arm. Did the medical rescue team amputate the rest due to a potential infection? Really strange.
If Travis had stopped them and said “I’m Chris Hacketts brother, the phone you’re calling is the phone at the camp and he’s definitely not up there. Stay at the motel because he’ll get there at dawn.” This game would have been much shorter lol
I think the idea behind Travis not being helpful in the prologue is because he's shaken up about Laura and Max seeing an "animal" and realizing there's a high probability that it's Silas. Because really. He should have police escorted them to the motel and used his radio to tell his family "hey, I've got to handle some lost travelers. But I think our 'friend' is in the neighborhood so keep an eye out". Had he done that, Jedediah and Bobby could have hunted Silas while Travis ensured the two were safely checked in at the motel. But you know. Game logic.
@@SharkSnoot yeah I enjoyed watching the playthrough but this story felt like what they call "idiot plot" where the plot falls apart if everyone doesn't act like an idiot who can't communicate. Imagine how many times pretty much ANY of the Hacketts could have explained whats happening calmly and then all of them banded together. Bobby had plenty of chances to tell the kids "hey look we're just trying to help. Use this blood to smell like a werewolf and hide from them. We have a safe haven at our house." or fuckin ANYTHING useful. Instead they conveniently don't talk when it would be most useful that they do

It's kind of on him, most of the problems in this scenario comes from bad communication skills, if he could be the person that helps communicate that nobody's trying to get killed or kill anybody, and they're trying to solve a problem then none of this would have been an issue in the first place

I love the sarcastic comments and jokes he always has
We also know Ryan’s home life is unstable and he’s interested in The Arts

@@breakops5339 I thought this would connect back to the Carnival somehow! Spooooky! But alas.
Well said my dude

It would have been cool to show all the evidence to the police. I was really hoping they would do that.
In the ending it says the teens were charged. They got arrested, that's all we know
You can see Max and Laura if you pick the choice where Max leaves the island.

Idk.

I find it awful how Silas' mother kept her son in the cage and showcased, but then whined about how "her poor boy suffered". Yeah, he did. Even before the fire.
So wait, he was already a werewolf before the fire?
@@xiotv910 yes.
@@xiotv910 yeah he was part of the like traveling sideshow
The Scrapyard has honestly the BEST SCENES. Dylan and Kaitlyn tag-teaming to drop that car on the werewolf is BALLER.

I liked that idea with the motion sensor lights, that could be interesting for other horror games or movies, you can see a light turning on in the distance which means a motion sensor has been triggered but it’s far away so you can’t see whether it’s the monster or other people
And then you see other lights turning on on the monsters path, it creates suspense, which way will the monster go? Which light will turn on next?
ABD THE MUSIC made it so much better, honestly my fav scene
Hell yeah! Probably my favorite scene just for Dylan using the crane
Okay but I love them showing Jacobs vulnerability. Men get enough hate for being emotional. So I like that they showed it here in the story.

Dylan saying to swim in the lake all night was so satisfying for me, like once I learned that they can’t go in water I’d be sat out in a boat or a pool floaty with a couple beers watching them howl at me, then just wait to see if Silas pops up so I can pop a cap in him

Could only imagine if had a game play where Emma dies dude would loose his it permanently I woukd assume.
Also any of his deaths are sad, either drowns in the lake if you get him stuck, mauled by any of the werewolves, turns into a werewolf himself, or do the bear trap chioce wrong and he goes head first into the trap next to him. Or lives and cries in the woods till the sun comes up.

That kinda makes me wonder if you let yourself get caught by the hunters if they'll end up surviving and helping you throughout the game?
It seems that if you dont kill the two parents they just get mauled by werewolves anyway. So maybe its not blood on the councilors hands but they end up dead anyway.

Regarding the lack of character development: I just realized we also never found out how/why Ryan grew close with the Hacketts. The moments where he seemed suspicious felt like they were leading to somewhere and then never did. It was just "Chris is a good man." that wasn't enough for me to want to save Chris
Mentioned at the start that ryan looked up to him because he was having family issues as he didn't have his parents and thus saw chris as a father figure (we can easily assume - though he does have his grandparents) - moreover he has gone to the camp many times and has spent time with chris's kids again as mentioned at the very begin of the game - from what we can understand the camp is the only real escape ryan has from his home life
For some reason i feel like ryan knew an element of the truth but didnt want to say anything because he never had proof
@@reelgesh51 that's fair, I just wish that story was told better, or that the bond between him and the family felt more genuine or something. It fell a little flat for me, but maybe that's partly because it's a horror game and I was expecting some kind of twist that never happened lol

That's actually smart, then they could've looked for Silas without worrying about killing the family or getting infection themselves if everyone they knew was on the island lol
That requires critical thinking, which none of the Hackett family has😂
Or all the infected could just go on the island instead ?

He's the most boring character
Like the interrogation scene we got in Until Dawn with all the characters describing what happened, and how it affected them.

That's how hollow got the characters killed.
if it were me playing at that moment, I would've been convinced and wouldn't have shot
She's trying to be a puppet master.
so glad Jack decided for Max to stay. literally that one choice could have killed him instantly with no chance to avoid it
I hated that. I chose for him to swim back and it felt so cheap when he was insta killed.
It would probably resemble a werewolf more than these werewolves do.
Maybe this is just how you played your playthrough Jack, but I also felt there were less unexpected risky situations. From memory, Until Dawn had a lot more 'shock factor', where things just weren't expected from making small actions and had more gripping entertainment value.

I agree. I was expecting Eliza to be the last boss of the game because of her taunts. Also the way they found Silas is just... So flat. No last epic confrontation whatsoever. All those build ups ended so poorly
Edit: i also have to mention that I at least, expected Silas to be big white wolf or have different features.. but it seems like they just use the same model for all the werewolves :/

For mine he didn't though. I think I got him and Kaitlyn to be more of a team and that avoided it but either way, it was sooooo much fun
I really like what they did at the end with Silas. The mom didn’t want you to kill him and the game actually managed to make you question if you should as if the mom was really in your head trying to stop you. That was amazingly cool and well done.
Ooooh but you were supposed to stop the first time and not raise the gun!
That whole family is terrible at communication. I blame Constance's parenting.
(Meaning Laura now knows, if she kills the werewolf who bit max, he’ll be cured)
But, travis doesn’t tell them about Chris being the werewolf in the bunker.
I know you both have a future planned together and want to cure max ASAP and shooting my brother now would achieve that, but why not /not/ do that, and instead help us hunt the head wolf that we haven’t seen for 6 years and have no real proof of his existence?"
I don’t think it’s very convincing and Ma probably wouldn’t want that either.
(Also the fact that camp was 2 months long: meaning that there should have been a full moon in the middle of camp, which makes 0 sense (it’s even seen when Laura and max are locked up at the police station)))
But I certainly enjoyed it and this particular part of the story doesn’t really bother me. Sure it could’ve been explained better, but when you think about it, it does make sense.
In the poem he did tell her that it started from the “white wolf”, however Laura seems to be so angry towards Chris and Travis that she only hears that if the wear wolf who infected the individual dies, the individual is cured.
I don’t know where laura got the idea that Chris was the first werewolf
Honestly if everyone just listened to the Travis and Chris Hackett much of this could have been avoided.
Thackett really has been holding the rope above the well. He's such a good boy. I feel so bad for him..

agree. i dont know why other videos keep giving the title "good end all survive" but kill travis deliberately in the process :"
But a great play-through on Jack’s part
i definitely agree :/
Every good part? That’s being a bit dramatic don’t you think
I was really hoping they'd do a thing like Until Dawn did where our main characters are talking about what happened afterwards. Especially Jacob, I wanted to see him just sit there and be like, "idk what happened but whoops"
It seriously dig drag out way too long to just be like “this is the evidence you found and people are kinda seeking justice?”
Agreed, even in House of Ashes, their ending was great of showing who died and lived with interrogation for the living.

my goodness.

Hey Jack! Around 1:07:35 when you were upset about the quiet forest, you might not know but a fun fact is if you're ever in the forest and it goes silent like that, it means there's a top predator around ! That isn't true at all. But ok.
