as a resident of Wichita (and thank you for pronouncing it correctly!) it was a great video to watch 🙂 can't help but feel a bit of pride seeing the Baron as well as the other aircraft you mentioned that are built here. thank you for your channel and all your excellent videos! you are an excellent narrator, and your videos are always entertaining and informative
I remember a Baron ditcing in Vejle Flord due to either engine problems or fuel starvation due to fault in the fuel system. The plane was hoisted and placed on the harbours extreme end on the south quay where i could have a good walk around. At that time i thought the plane looked in good condition, but it must have been a total write off. I believe it was registred in Sweden and it was in the last half of 1970.
My daughter flew a "Baby Baron" at a previous job and loved it. Even though she's flown a Hawker and all types of Lears since then, the Baby Baron still holds a place in her heart.
Man I loved flying the 58. The 58P was an absolute high flying Cadillac. Never flew the rare 56tc but heard it was a beast. But overall the regular post ‘84 normal aspirated 58 was my favorite light twin.
Some added trivia for you. Ironically, the Baron in that movie N9750Y( callsign in the movie N232Z), was destroyed in a real midair, with a Cessna 180 , some 14years later over Tracey CA. It’s a wonderful airplane. I have one.
Amazing video! Really hope you continue to cover general aviation like this! Would love to hear about the King and Queen Airs as well as other twins. Keep it up!
Nice video! Not to put too fine a point on it, but the clip about the suicide pilot starting about 10:53 shows a tossed Cessna 310, probably from a storm of some kind. :)
I was just looking at some old Flight Unlimited 2/3 videos the other day and randomly saw an old comment of yours on one about how you played those flight sims a lot flying in Baron, and now here you are with this video! Life is weird at times 😅
Good video. But as a former Baron pilot, you left a lot out. I highly recommend "From Travel Air to Baron : How Beech Created a Classic!" by Larry Ball, if anyone wants to dive in deep.
my goodness, beauty really IS in the eye of the beer holder! what an optical abomination the Bassett is! thankfully this world is large enough to accommodate very differing ideas of beauty. 😉
The B58 is a nice slippery airframe but the lack of turbo chargers does place you right smack in the worst of the weather likely to be encountered 7-8k altitude on a flight and single engine performance gives you no room for bad judgement calls.
I have to ask, how do you pronounce your first name? I've been trying to figure it out for a while now, but I just cant. Could you please maybe say it in a video or put a phonetic spelling of it in the description?
My favorite one was the 56tc. I've had it over 30thosand ft...climb like a striped ape!!.not practical, but what a hot rod!!! Oh it's a big gulp...fly plan for 42 galhr...booking for a place to land after 2 hrs fly. Fuc. No Chinese ph!
09:27 so even if you calculate in inflation from 1970 to today the price of the Baron 58 has tripled. General Aviation has become a hobby of multi millionaires
I believe that location in Northern America is pronounced: “Witch-eater Can-Zeus”. It’s a difficult one. Understand you getting it wrong. They have butchered His Majesty’s English over there.
Whenever I'm not sure about the pronunciation of something I'll just go on TH-cam. Chances are there will be videos from locals, or knowledgeable persons talking about it.
The "Widow maker.' For all the right reasons this aircraft appealed to a lot of wealthy doctors and dentists, but it's A LOT of aircraft for private pilots to handle.
@@daszieher My comment mentioned that doctors and dentists were attracted to this model. It did not mention professional, or even semi professional pilots. It's hard to imagine a busy doctor putting very many hours into flying on a week to week basis. These were recreational aircraft- and status symbols to many of the owners... not 'daily drivers.' There are many reports of crashes by inexperienced pilots who may have been proficient on single engine aircraft but had considerable trouble with a high performance, multi- engine aircraft. In fact, in the early 1980's Beechcraft started a special school for new owners to help curb the accident rate of the Baron with their new owners.
@@swilkobarfingtoniii1642 I've sat right seat in a Baron IFR. It's not that hard. It's just complex and requires proficiency, but at a level that any "amateur" is capable of (just not at minimum flight hours). The "product" has always been targeted at the "owner pilot" and rightly so. Calling the Baron a widow maker is just wrong. What would you call the MU-2 then?
The Baron is a rather slippery airframe to get slowed down so it just requires a little more attention and for the pilot to be competent. Single engine performance is not very exciting tho.

I fly a Baron and I was under the impression it was pronounced Witch-eatah!
And I’m pretty sure Kansas is pronounced Can-Zeus as in Arkansas.
Without the hour.

much thanks for this! I hope you’ll do a similar history coverage for another of Beechcraft’s legends - the King Air family

They featured a Beechcraft Baron in the movie Airport 1975 where one collides with a 747. Would love to hear your take on the 757
757 is a high performance plane I’ve heard

Excellent video. Good job. I’m here for the long haul. Can’t wait for all your future videos. Stay safe brother!
1:30 No, the model 35 shown was not in production when this video was published.

Great vlog as always! Keep up the good work!

What a beautiful little plane.
I’ve had that aircraft flying over my area numerous times
Gosh! Another very information-dense summary.
I was looking for a video like that, thanks for sharing
Great vid, a fascinating history. I first learned of the Baron from the pc flight sim Flight Unlimited 2.
Thank you Rory!!!
Awesome video, more general aviation aircraft please!
Very posh name for a very popular aircraft. Interesting.
Next, the beagle B.206 Basset, please. One of the most beautiful light aircraft ever produced!
my goodness, beauty really IS in the eye of the beer holder! what an optical abomination the Bassett is!
thankfully this world is large enough to accommodate very differing ideas of beauty. 😉
Just take a look at the British cars from the same period and you might get an idea of where this design shouldn't have come from!
Great aircraft
I love these videos! Any plans on doing one for the Aero Commander 500 family?
Awesome vid.

Love my Travel Air. Just load sensibly. Train regularly.
Cool!
I didn't remember there's a plane crash on the streets back in 1996, and i can't find any reference to it on the internet

New sub ! Liked 🐸🙏❤️🙂✌️☺️😃
The picture at Alice Springs is a Cessna 310’s belly not a Baron
Beech answer to Piper, Cessna Aircraft

do you mean Bandung??

👍
They are Well built aircraft, just don't ever stall one intentionally, cause if she spins, it more than likely is NOT coming out of it.

Wichita is a Navtive American word... so it's not entirely our fault for *ruining* the language.

no, it is only a lot to handle, if the private pilot thinks that 30hrs per year are enough to remain proficient.
Barf typical clueless non pilot. I’ve flown them and 30 plus others for 50 years. If you can’t land a Bonanza take up golf. Easiest ever.

Bandung, west java NOT Bandurg.
Badger would have so much better, and seriously, the idiot that mistakes a Tupolev Tu-16 with A Beechcraft 95 has no business in aviation, ever.
Terrible computer
