  • Hang out with me while I unbox, pot and then fast forward two months ahead to see how my new Calathea Yellow Fusion is doing after being shipped from Indonesia. I don't know anything about the Yellow Fusion but once I saw it for sale, I was too curious to pass it by. If you know this plant by another name--please let me know in the comments!

    This is Calathea louisae Thai Beauty. It needs indirect bright light. I am from India & mine is growing beautifully.

    Is it maybe folding at a different time because it came from a country with a much different time zone? I think its circadian rhythm is regulated internally and doesn’t rely solely on light. For example, my calatheas start to fold down a couple hours before sunrise and a couple hours after sunset during the winter. You can think of this calathea as being jet lagged.

    Addy,have you tried giving dry,barerooted plants a good drink in a vase of water before potting em up? That’s what we do with soft fruit 🍇 plants n bareroot roses etc., be blessed 🙏🇬🇧

      It is so gorgeous! I've never seen it for sale here in retail places, or even from US sellers, so I'm glad that I got it. It took a few months to get over the shipping stress but it was SO worth it! 😊

    I just ordered a baby plant of this. Shipping will be a short way but I am still kinda scared how it will arrive - my Orbifolia was in a horrible state (and then suffered huge damage from my cats). But this plant is so incredibly beautiful, I am excited. Thanks for sharing this...!

    There are people calling it Yellow Fusion here. I got one, too. However, I think it should be Louisae Thai Beauty.

      @@AddyBeez Addy do you a way I could email you or fb msg about some calathea issues I've recently been having? I was hoping to show you pics and get your expert advice if possible. The email listed on this page doesn't work for me for some reason. My friend and I are desperate for your help lol but if not then I completely understand. Many thanks for all you do for the Calathea lovers out there Addy! You are much appreciated!

      Hi, Ashlee. The best way to message me is through DMs on Instagram. I haven't been over there recently but if you comment here to let me know a DM was sent on Instagram, I will look at it (you can also send pictures in the DMs) and try to see if I have anything helpful to share. Definitely not an expert but I will help as much as I can.

    Oh my goodness she’s beautiful! I have a warscewiczii that folds it’s leaves down instead of up, like this yellow fusion did that first day. You increased the humidity, but mine is around 55-70 and it still holds the down. Do you have an idea of why? And what I can try to fix it? Thanks Addy!

    • @AddyBeez
      @AddyBeez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am really smitten, especially after cutting away the humidity damage. Regarding your calathea, I'm not sure why that's happening. I'm still not entirely sure why it happened with this plant. Actually, I've never seen it happen before. Though, my Warscewiczii/Eucadoriana do move a little differently than my other calatheas. The top surface of the leaves are facing down/are bent the wrong way?

    • @anjelicaandersen9682
      @anjelicaandersen9682 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AddyBeez yes, like an “n” shape. The stem is the straight part and the leafs curve down like the curve of a lowercase “n”. I don’t know if that makes sense. The top of the leaf is facing out, the underside is closest to the stem. During the day they relax upwards, and at night they fold down instead of folding up. My warscewiczii and zebrina both do that. Idk if it’s because they’re fuzzy? I saw someone else on FB who’s fuzzy calathea did it too. Both of mine were shipped and had a rough time. Stress maybe? But they have been potted up for 3-4 weeks and still do it. So confused

    • @AddyBeez
      @AddyBeez  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anjelicaandersen9682 Hmm. That is interesting. What I was referring to with this plant was the leaf actually bent the wrong way, so the surface of the leaf flipped to touch the stem. It was pretty strange looking. It's interesting that yours is following the opposite of the heliotropic/nyctinastic pattern. Some of my fuzzy calatheas do move less but unless they're stressed, they put a good number of their leaves up at night. It could be leftover stress from shipping--this can take a while to resolve. It could also be access to light, or a number of other things. Or nothing at all, too. I would check the underside of the leaves just to be safe. Other than that--calatheas can be really hard to understand! Sometimes I just have to leave mine alone for a bit and they work issues out themselves (especially shipping stress). I keep my humidity between 40-50% and that seems to be high enough for most of them.

    Did you notice that they don't "pray" if a new shoot coming out? I notice that in my Warsewicsii and Musaica. They stop moving completely, It freaks me out, I thought I have again spider mites or thrips.
