This railroad won my heart when I was five years old and it never gave it up. It's a keepsake part of our culture and I'm thrilled to share it with my son.
Even though neither of them haven’t operated since 1989 at the Strasburg Railroad. I have seen both locomotives displayed there at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, back when I was a little child and later on September 5th 2021 during my trip to see N&W 611 visiting.
Back when Strasburg was tons of fun! And ole John Bowman or Red Shaw gave you one good show trackside or on the train. You just let them know which you were doing and it was like going on an excursion train. Lots and lots of good sights and sounds. This is the Strasburg of my happy memories of it.
Great video. Thank you for posting this. It certainly brings back LOTS of memories for me. I worked at the Dining Car Restaurant as a teenager in the early 1990's. I was the first young man to work on the Lee E. Brenner Dining Car when it was finished. My uncle Don Denlinger built the Red Caboose Motel, so I spent LOTS of time in this area growing up!
I always love the quote at Leaman Place. "You can transfer trains here to go to New York, Pittsburgh, or points further west. That is if you can run fast enough to catch the Amtrak train."
STUNNING! Brought me back to my childhood visits to the Strasburg railroad! Strasburg is still #1, BUT those were the days...You could climb onto the 1187! I also remember the site of them building the water tower! Who knows I could be in this video!
yeah i know, it would be great seeing 31, 475, 89, 90, 4, 972, 1223, and 7002 operating at the same time. plus i miss how the hello dolly was like back in the 1960s and NOT 20th century limited
I was 5 or 6 at the time when they were building the water tower. I still do remember that old one and of course, the wig wag for the crossing. What happened to that?
It's a shame. The Strasburg Railroad has become so overly-commercialized and crowded since then. I remember back in the 90's before all the hype was started up.
jbyoung100 personally I look past with the commercialized like the worlds oldest railroad or something and see as a small short line that uses steam locomotives!
Just wondering why the train on the siding at the meet didn't extinguish it's headlight and why I didn't see the head brakeman standing by the switch (on the opposite side from the switchstand) and also wondering if the marker lamps on the rear of the train on the siding were turned to show green to the rear and if the rear brakeman was protecting the rear of the train.

PRR 1223 had probably one of the best PRR 3 chimes ever. 7002 also had one epic PRR 3 chime.

The Strasburg Railroad was another beautiful heritage railroad. I have recently returned there on June 26th 2023 for their Day out with Thomas event.

1987 - that was the year my mom and I went! I was 10!

That had some humor!
The Strasburg has gone backward more than most railroads have gone forward.
Yeah, my brain had to re-play that a few times just to be sure it processed properly.
wish i was alive for this. darn I was 10 years late and then some.

I live close to Strasburg, PA. I am planning to go there to take a ride.
Nice seeing the area the way it used to be rather than the junked up tourist trap it is today.
Agreed.
You should have seen it in the late 1960’s-makes the 80’s and 90’s look like a tourist trap.

6:02 METROLINER HOLY CRAP FOAM!!!!!!!! Note the 2 Leslie single chimes don't sound too sour on that metroliner

yes it's a B&O 3 chime, there was also maybe 1 or 2 5 chimes, and a buckeye 3 chime.
well just make sure you watch out for any news and if you hear anyting tell me...thanks

strasburg should put the white trim back on 90 and 31, they had a more "Strasburg" look to them.
strasburg owned a 5 chime. what was that whiste from
I don't think that they have moved freight for several years now.
Does anyone know what whistle is on the 7312 here.
how do you build the old hello dolly car?
Where did you hear that? I love 31, but that would be awesome!
bring back the helo dolly to old fashoned please with open cars 71 and 73 back to yellow!!
Would love to see a Canadian National Steam Switcher Reunion with 7312 and 7470 in the future!!!!!
strasburg does nto carry freight any more right?
Oh they do, they are carrying more and more frieght
Is that what whistile 89 use to use? I thought 7312's whislte was diffrent in the 2000's.
31's whistle was a buckeye 3 chime. original 5 chime from CN is still in the shops. hasnt been used in almost 30 years
Strasburg1991 Thank for that answer. It sounded more to me like 89's B&O three chime.
***** I think it is a B&O 3 Chime that #89 used to have it!!!!!!
Strasburg1991 What whistles did #7312 wear?
brian falzon CN 5 chime, CB&Q 5 chime, and a nathan 6 chime.
What happened to 31?
31 might be in an inspection right now and I don't know whenever she will be back!
