I started my father on Tokyo Ghoul first to get him used to anime, since its just a pretty normal and solid anime overall, followed by SAO and Code Geass, same reason for those, then got more into the indie with Drifters, and showed him the horror side with the anime with "Another," introduced him to isekai with Shield hero and eminence in shadow. He is now a full-fledged cultured anime enjoyer. He's currently watching MHA, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and black clover as his long-running one. Next anime planned is Love is war, the final overall genre to show em, the classic Japanese Rom Coms. After he's down with these, im gonna give him some cult classics like FLCL, and other super indie ones to top it off.
@@hao2000ki Of them all, his favorite is still SAO, followed by Solo leveling and eminence in shadow. He just finished Shangri La Frontier and really enjoyed it as well. I think the more video game ones are more appealing to him since he has also grown up with video games all his life all the way back on the Atari 2600. I didn't mention it earlier, but he also really like uncle from another world with all its game console references.
@@LousyNine ah yeah the video game part, that's fair. im curious though, what did he think of those asuna scenes at the end of season 1? i loved sao when i first watched it in early highschool and it was technically my first "anime" anime if you were to exclude stuff like pokemon, dbz, etc., but im ngl if i were to watch it now without having watched anime, it would kind of weird me out
@@hao2000ki I informed him before we ever started watching anime that there was some weird shxt in them. I even showed him a vid that explained it better than I could, about how anime/manga was an anti censorship things so it got kinda crazy at some points. He already knew a bit since he has watched indie movies his entire life, and many of the foreign ones from Japan he watched had some pretty messed up stuff, (like one he told me about called iron man something where the dudes p*nis turned robotic and then the rest of his body followed as some revenge plot by some tech or something) so it didn't really bother him. Also for it overall, im 22 and he's 49, so very little bothers me, much less him at this point. When it comes down to it, stuff in anime generally isn't that bad, even the weirdst stuff, if you compare it to the normalized disgusting stuff we have in Hollywood movies and shows. Plus the fact that its just drawn characters and not actual actors, makes it just a bit less weird, as least mentally.
8:40 Nick nails it. I grew up on DBZ, OP, and Bleach as a kid. Shit like that isn't for someone new to anime. You need to ease them in with 1) a genre they like (not everyone likes shounen) 2) something short, if you're going into a new hobby or field. The last thing you want to do is give them a 100+ episode show that, yes, may be good. But that's a lot of time for someone that has never watched or experienced something to commit to.
My order was like 1) deathnote 2) avatar the last Airbender haven't watched korra yet 3) fmab 5) hunter x hunter 6) mha 7) naruto 8) naruto Shippuden 9) reincarnated as slime 10) then one piece and I'm caught up in manga 12) demon slayer 13) jjk 14) watching bleach now 15) watched chainsaw man 16) and now watching dbz kai boo saga Also watched one punch man caught in manga now , seven deadly sins, watched Vindland saga haven't watched season 2 yet and spy x family it was cute, watched haikyuu, bluelock ,koruko didn't work for me,tried baruto because i love naruto but I'm sorry and have not watched attack on titan yet and It has been 4 years of my life
technically my first anime was pokemon when i was like 6. then i watched stuff like shugo chara, tokyo mew mew, saint tail in elementary school because my cousin was really into that stuff and we just watched them together. ended up getting really hooked onto anime without knowing it was anime at the time because the story, characters, and animation looked much better than stuff like family guy, south park, or even ben 10, kim possible, winx club, etc. when i started watching my own stuff, i was getting into stuff like yugioh, dbz, and naruto but really only started watching "anime" anime in highschool. so i had a lot of exposure to the anime style in my childhood so my first "anime" anime was SAO, and 13 year old me absolutely loved it, as did a lot of guys in my school who were kinda like your typical jocks, to my surprise.

It's up to you how you evaluate "SPY x FAMILY", but I don't want you who haven't read the original to criticize it. Even if you think, you should try not to put it in words or actions. First of all, before criticizing, please imagine the faces of the countless people who work hard to create anime and original works. Do you know how much time, money and manpower it takes to make one anime episode (about 30 minutes)? Once you know this, you will never be able to criticize again. However, there are many expressions in SPY×FAMILY that only people who can speak Japanese can understand (anya's word/ misunderstandings due to mishearing and homonyms etc.), and there are many switching between battle and daily life, so there are some things that can't be helped. True anime fans must also love the Slice of Life anime! (← This is important!) Sorry for talking so long🙇♀️ from a Japanese fan
My first anime was ACTUALLY Boruto. Laugh at me but I wanted to watch Naruto, then my friend came to me and said there is a " New " Naruto anime and his son will take the lead. As a gamer I used to play DBZ, Naruto and One Piece on my PS2 back in the day, but for some reasons I never watched the actual anime I only knew the story from the actual game. And here I am 6 years being an anime fan watching Bunny Girl Senpai and Love is War. So yea Boruto was my anime opener :P ( It was just aired so we didn't know the its direction LOL ). Extra note : My Second anime was Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, so I guess I don't meet the criteria for anime to watch if I'm a new fan :P
Wait, so U mean Boruto started 6 years ago? Damn, I'm old 😅😂 I felt that Naruto ended a long time ago and Boruto started quite a few years later. It's already been around for 6 years? Wow 😮
The thing about Chainsawman is that it flips existing troupes on its ahead a lot. It's referential to shonen and manga as a whole, so it doesn't work as well as a starter.
You could also argue that with One Punch Man, but the tropes being flipped and played around with aren't exclusive to anime, and are additionally still played straight as well anyway.
I don't know if there is right answer, depends on person, but what worked for me recommending animes to my friends is: 1. AoT. I can't recommend any better anime to start with. It's so close to... umm... "normal" TV? 2. Death Note/FMA 3. THEN something fun. One Punch Man usually works. 4. Longer anime. Need to hook someone in with serious anime or two first imo. Funny is always funny, does not matter what kinda media it is, but serious will hook you in.

I got my Mum into Anime starting with Attack on Titan, first two seasons cause those were the only available ones. Then we did Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood I believe next followed by Avatar and Korra. I tried Re Zero with her and she hated it. Couldn't get into it. But she loved Visions of Escaflowne so that's a win for Isekai at least. We did Star Wars Clone Wars and Rebels after just to get some different genres and animations in there and One Punch Man Season 1. Finally I watched all of Naruto with her which she absolutely loved then Psycho-Pass Season 1 followed by Hunter X Hunter which was my first time watching it as well which was amazing. And now we're currently going through original Bleach since January. Its been long and slow but she's enjoying it. Im trying to warm up to One Piece but after Bleach I also wanna get Death Note, Baccano! and Durarara!! in there too before doing a complete rewatch of Attack on Titan with all seasons available once its over and fully out.
Funny thing is that my first anime was Naruto. And it was on TV. On jetix as far i remember. It worked for me. Than i watched some anime on my own and didn't have like top lists. It was some mid animes but ok. Than i managed to talk with anime fan community and it went very well. Sorry for my english😂 😂😂

Top picks after Garnt's suggestions: Shounen; Demon Slayer Psychological; Death Parade Action; D.Gray-man or Noragami Drama; The Ancient Magus' Bride Sci-Fi; Dr Stone or Fire Force Romance; Fruits Basket Feel Good; Difficult but maybe Komi Can't Communicate or even season 1 of The Devil Is A Part-Timer Isekai; That time I got Reincarnated as a Slime and (for the more degenerate) Mushoku Tensei 👌 School; Assassination Classroom Cute Girls; O Maidens in Your Savage Season or Koboyashi's Maid Dragon Degeneracy; Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls or Food Wars XD
Mha is an alright starter. It's inspired by marvel and feels very much western in the beginning. But year 8, I watched mha and have been watching anime since
19:43 Idk, I don't think I'd have a much harder time explaining my mom why those anime characters are [half] naked, than explaining her why that giant naked humanoid thing is shown eating humans alive in detail with liters of blood flowing out of them, or explaining why that dude has so much fun and is laughing like a maniac while murdering countless people without a second thought by writing their names into a book. Like, no hate against any of these anime, but it just really confuses me how people be like "Can't show comedic censored nudity in your first anime" but at the same time be like "Yeah, no one will be weirded out by massive amounts of gore and (once you get them, "ambigous", but on first sight, really just questionable) morals"
I think Girls last tour might be a good anime to recommend. There aren't many characters, the art and music is amazing and there are only 12 episodes. I also don't think that there are any scenes that could be problematic like to crazy fanservice. I mean the main characters do bath a few times but it's never sexual or anything. The only thing is that the person watching might find it boring but then I guess that person needs stuff like OPM or Dragonball lol
I feel like the end of the video exemplified an additional criteria that should have been considered. Unless you're going to be sitting down to watch it with them or something, try to avoid any anime that has live action adaptations out there in the wild for them to trip over. You gotta be sure when they go searching for it on their own time that they find the right thing.

After he's down with these, im gonna give him some cult classics like FLCL, and other super indie ones to top it off.
ngl sao is a crazy pick to give to your dad but hey if it works it works
My Mom fav. Is _"Candy-candy"_ and _"Minky Momo"._ and for my Grandpa is _"Captain Tsubasa(2018)"._
Mine is _"Minami-ke"._ 😊
My first anime (that I intentionally watched) was Little Witch Academia. It felt not like anime, but like just generally good cartoon
My order was like
1) deathnote
2) avatar the last Airbender haven't watched korra yet
3) fmab
5) hunter x hunter
6) mha
7) naruto
8) naruto Shippuden
9) reincarnated as slime
10) then one piece and I'm caught up in manga
12) demon slayer
13) jjk
14) watching bleach now
15) watched chainsaw man
16) and now watching dbz kai boo saga
Also watched one punch man caught in manga now , seven deadly sins, watched Vindland saga haven't watched season 2 yet and spy x family it was cute, watched haikyuu, bluelock ,koruko didn't work for me,tried baruto because i love naruto but I'm sorry and have not watched attack on titan yet and
It has been 4 years of my life
0:26 this aged well 💀
Drama:True Tears
Romance: Lovely Complex
Action:Black Lagoon
Sci Fi:Avenger
Shonen: Air Gear
Thriller: 91 Days
technically my first anime was pokemon when i was like 6. then i watched stuff like shugo chara, tokyo mew mew, saint tail in elementary school because my cousin was really into that stuff and we just watched them together. ended up getting really hooked onto anime without knowing it was anime at the time because the story, characters, and animation looked much better than stuff like family guy, south park, or even ben 10, kim possible, winx club, etc. when i started watching my own stuff, i was getting into stuff like yugioh, dbz, and naruto but really only started watching "anime" anime in highschool.
so i had a lot of exposure to the anime style in my childhood so my first "anime" anime was SAO, and 13 year old me absolutely loved it, as did a lot of guys in my school who were kinda like your typical jocks, to my surprise.
I'm into anime i started on Toyko Ghoul and Death Note; I've been watching since 2015 and still am, but my brother and little sister started this year with Demon Slayer and JJK
(← This is important!)
Sorry for talking so long🙇♀️
from a Japanese fan
Damn, I'm old 😅😂
I felt that Naruto ended a long time ago and Boruto started quite a few years later.
I don't know if there is right answer, depends on person, but what worked for me recommending animes to my friends is:
1. AoT. I can't recommend any better anime to start with. It's so close to... umm... "normal" TV?
2. Death Note/FMA
3. THEN something fun. One Punch Man usually works.
4. Longer anime.
Need to hook someone in with serious anime or two first imo. Funny is always funny, does not matter what kinda media it is, but serious will hook you in.
for I sekai I think
Re:zero is berserk of isekai
Mushoku Tensei is Vinland saga of Isekai, if u ignore other stuff it has very good character development
FMAB is the perfect starter anime, as it has a perfect balance of stroytelling action, sadness, and comedy
Psycho Pass and Baccano are such underrated anime titles that I barely hear being discussed, especially during it's airing.
Baccano = the show where Dubs are far superior to Subs.
Def appreciate the Baccano! pick
My first Anime was a show called "Ah! My Goddess"
I wonder if it still holds up today
i don't know if anyone know this anime but the first anime i watched was AJIN it was wonderful
I would definitely recommend
1,demon slayer
2,ride your wave
3,naruto
Nick nothing will ever top Hathaways Flash it is literally the superior Sci-Fi anime
The chip scene is like the business card scene of Japan. Iykyk
For Drama i think - A silent voice or i waana eat your pancreas is best choice because they are best and a animated movie of only 2 hrs
Ok. Now we wait till the brand of sacrifice was stamped on his body
1:41 he is literally me 😂
well my first anime was bleach and the number of episodes never scared me away
Lets hope nick get invited to the trash taste yall🎉🎉
nahhh he doesnt have enough things to share. he needs more time on this platform
@@MTAKIM-xy9jd idk bout that. With this much take, audience, and personality, He & yaboyroshi is on the top of my personal "reaction youtuber that shouldve been invited to trash taste" 😆🙏
@@yangmahatempe i think nick has a lot of hot takes and hasnt really watched a lot of anime to say alot while roshi has watched dozens upon dozens of anime
@@crit1087Trash Taste is for hot takes though, right?
@@Aryan_Raj. i meant to say how nick has hot takes for anime he hasnt watched, or more so that he hasnt really watched a variety of shows enough to support his various takes.
My First Anime was Tokyo ghoul but ITS normaly to Anime for a First series i think but it catched me so hard.
Id prolly recommend SAO Season 1 for the very first episode, because thats where I started. It was a good introduction.
I effectively trapped my "wtf is anime?" Friend with Jujutsu Kaisen. So yeah it hits hard and fast.
To Your Eternity - Drama
Code Geass - Science Fiction
Btooom! - Action (might be a bit heavy)
5 Centimeters Per Second - for mum
Yeah, Baccano! can be confusing
Im one of those degenerates
P.S: Im 28
Psycho Pass is crazy good. I don't understand why outside Japon don't became so popular
First season is good. 2nd and 3rd not really…
@@evernightcg9081 Season 1 is a damn masterpeace ( even 2014 movie) 2nd and 3rd season aren't at the same level but still good...Especially season 3
For beginners
1the shape of voice (a movie)
2 one punch man
3 Aot
My first anime that I watch is assassins pride
Its also different if you are starter now or if you were like 10y ago. There wasnt many high end shows like now.
My first anime was Angel beats. And it made me hooked to anime.
Silent voice and love is war is so fire
I'm 61. I became an anime weeb in the early 1990s.
I love that Gigguk is into Kill La Kill. At some point, you MUST watch Kill La Kill.
Violet Evergarden is fantastic.
0:35 "fill me up with bullet holes like swiss chees fill me up da-" *nicholas*
Top picks after Garnt's suggestions:
Shounen; Demon Slayer
Psychological; Death Parade
Action; D.Gray-man or Noragami
Drama; The Ancient Magus' Bride
Sci-Fi; Dr Stone or Fire Force
Romance; Fruits Basket
Feel Good; Difficult but maybe Komi Can't Communicate or even season 1 of The Devil Is A Part-Timer
Isekai; That time I got Reincarnated as a Slime and (for the more degenerate) Mushoku Tensei 👌
School; Assassination Classroom
Cute Girls; O Maidens in Your Savage Season or Koboyashi's Maid Dragon
Degeneracy; Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls or Food Wars
XD
Mha is an alright starter. It's inspired by marvel and feels very much western in the beginning. My first two anime as a child was doreamon and Shinchan but when I was in year 6 I watched one punch man and I honestly liked it but was too little to understand anime. But year 8, I watched mha and have been watching anime since
I started my friend with yu yu hakusho, Bastard! and slayers years ago and the bastard owns his own anime store now.
Death note, fruits basket, spy fam
Nothing says romance like Hisoka
I'd say for drama the safest pick will be "You lie in April-Shigatsu wa kimi no uso" since Silent Voice is just a movie would not be my recomendation
Like, no hate against any of these anime, but it just really confuses me how people be like "Can't show comedic censored nudity in your first anime" but at the same time be like "Yeah, no one will be weirded out by massive amounts of gore and (once you get them, "ambigous", but on first sight, really just questionable) morals"
i watched 3 pats of jojo with my mother! and she loved it!
For me my first anime was Naruto, way back some 20 years ago. Then the original FMA and then Bleach.
My top 3 for first viewing would be
Oshi No Ko, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and then Demon Slayer.
You NEED to watch a silent voice, It is the legit only anime that has ever made me cry
05:36 Oh shit nick gets it
I think Girls last tour might be a good anime to recommend. There aren't many characters, the art and music is amazing and there are only 12 episodes. I also don't think that there are any scenes that could be problematic like to crazy fanservice. I mean the main characters do bath a few times but it's never sexual or anything. The only thing is that the person watching might find it boring but then I guess that person needs stuff like OPM or Dragonball lol
parents, mum: Carol and tuesday
9:59 this reminds me nick gotta watch summertime render, its like deathnote and re zero,oh and this ost 17:45 reminds me that nick would love hellsing
In the past my go to anime for a newcomer would be Death note or FMA Brotherhood but now I recommend Arcane
For fighting: Baki, Kengan ashura, Hajime no ippo 💪
Twelve Kingdoms is an isekai which I can recommend. But it has a slow start and it is incomplete. Maybe till episode 39.
Well i started with pokemon , naruto and bleach . Before i knew what anime even is . Only then started others. Well back then we didnt even had internet at home and those anime were on tv . At night channel changed to animax with + detective conan , fullmetal alchemist and soul eater but those i didnt watched that much like those 3 i mentioned. + Jetix and naruto classic on that xd daaamn good old times
Jujutsu kaisen, Deathnote, tokyo revenge or cyberpunk
