Johns mayers version is like a big brother or best friend telling you not to worry…you’ve got this.. it makes you feel braver, ready to take on the world with its bombastic backing drums. Yebbas version wants to encourage with a warm mothers embrace… like when things are already bad but she uplifts you and dries your tears. Both versions offer emotion but this one is like when someone hugs you and your trying not to cry but you do anyway cuz you’ve been through it.
@@smallsignals @Kenneth Mionnet That's what I love about it, personally: it feels like a journey through the process of strengthening your resolve and preparing yourself for the fight ahead. It starts off stable, like a friend or mother offering initial words of encouragement, and the subsequent modulations feel like a musical representation of the uneasiness and anguish that the "worry" can invoke - even while being reassured - because it means that you have to recognize and face that instability head on. But when it all resolves to that gorgeous, simple major at the very end... it's the sudden serenity of finally believing in your ability to conquer the task that lies before you. Not a bombastic "I can conquer the world" feeling, but understanding that no matter how tough it may get, you can take it as it comes and push through.
y'all it was both of them. obviously james is the major component of harmonic structure/key change present but yebba is no slouch and certainly had a ton of input.
I love how Yebba's Black Gospel background is infused into so many of her songs. I appreciate the fact that Yebba is always respectful of the influence of Black culture upon her voice. Rather than exploit, I think she wants to uplift.
She actually grew up in a white church. But I'm sure she grew up listening to a lot of black gospel. Correct me if I'm wrong this is just info I gathered from pictures she posts and reading some articles.
She's a Memphis native with a huge, huge leaning towards the Clark sisters. She's an old soul with a LOT of richness and embraces the soul of her hometown. I like her because she comes by it honestly.
I absolutely love Yebba She has so much soul. when she sings WOW some songs more than others, but the girl Has It. My mind is phenomenal Go Yebba❤❤ 3:48 3:48
Really appreciate all the diminished insertions in here. John's original is very Midwest campfire vibes and then here you go throwing in holy ghost baptist transitions 🤣🤣🤣 this is why we keep coming back for Yebba 🤣
When she sings, she speaks to something deep in my bones. She's preaching to me about something I've forgotten about myself, and I need to remember. I always end up a sobbing mess while listening... she's doing God's work. Bless you, YEBBA.
Im so glad im not the only one crying when listening to her! Her music makes me feel the most human. Her voice is always makes me feel save and feel heard, as if she knows the pain I go through and empathises with it. Also synesthesia makes everything she does look so incredibly beautiful, I wish I could show you!
When I saw Questlove on the drums and Pino on the bass, I jumped in excitement. It’s crazy how Yebba isn’t more famous. One of the best female singers out there.
She's a different breed man, for a certain group of people I guess, She's insanely talented and Amazing... I automatically love everyone that appreciates her artistry lol
This version beautifully spotlights Mayer’s writing talent and makes Yebba sound like an angelic baby formed by the mating of Joni Mitchell and a sixties lounge singing chanteuse (in the best way). Magic we didn’t realize we needed.
In a sea of affected, over-the-top, inauthentic-vowel-using female singers, Yebba is a glimmer of hope. She sings the melody, without feeling like she needs to change it, sings purely, doesn't strain, doesn't make extreme facial expressions, doesn't use vibrato where it isn't needed, doesn't push her voice to the limit until it's called for by the energy of the song, because she doesn't need to. And when the energy of the song requires it, she can do all of these things flawlessly. She is so discerning, so sensitive, such an excellent listener. Yebba is truly masterful.
It’s not just her voice, which absolutely brings you to tears, but her pianist accompaniment and melodic skill level is off the charts! All her musicians and those e 3 backing vocals she used on Tiny Desk are unbelievable! I hope Yebba can keep those musicians and backing vocals for a very long time. 🎶
I'm a John Mayer purist. My predisposition is to dislike any covers of his songs. Give me John or give me nothing... ...But this...this is pure heaven. This airy, light arrangement and vocal perfection is everything. EVERYTHING.
Who else lives in the comment section like me? I put the video on loop, while reading the appreciation and love for Yebba. I’m so obsessed with everything Yebba sing, pure magic!!
I'm new here, I just discovered her yesterday. I am in shock and awe, she's absolutely astoundingly incredible and I am confused why she's not the most famous singer in the world. I can't stop listening to her music and crying.

I'm going through a really tough time and this song made me feel snuggled up in a warm blanket. We are so lucky to have this gifted artist in our lives.
My emotions are usually very muted and don’t sway that much in any direction, but your music manages to sway me to feel everything. Shoutout to John Mayer, another legend. The album this came from is another 10/10 for introspection
What a beautifully layered song. The instrumental was complicated with many moving parts but it was extremely interesting melodically and overall a joy to listen to. I don't know if I've ever heard something such as this. Seriously, I'm in love with the entire production. Thank you to each musician for sharing your talents!
Me too. Has to wait for when the camera got to him again, saw the head bobbing - yeah, Pino! Pity on my phone the bass is almost invisible in the mix. Will get headphones on it.
If this rendition does not stir up some sort of emotion in you, then you might wanna see if you left your soul somewhere in the past. Go find it and use this song to help you. My god, Yebba, you have done it again.
Imagine hearing this while lying alone in the large grassy plains far far away from the city. Where under a clear blue sky, the gentle breeze runs through the tall grass, calmly swaying, with only its sound filling the soft silence of the environment all around you

I tell everybody I meet about Yebba and then force them to listen while I watch them react in amazement. It's the least I can do.

Lmao me too 💀😂😂🙌🏽
Currently trying to let as many people in Scotland hear her as is humanly possible, she is absolutely magnificent....

Wow! It's Pino Palladino! John Mayer's bassist in the John Mayer Trio for those that don't know.
everything this woman touches is amazing. she’s such a gem

Beautiful 😍
thats right
I mostly agree, but I think this arrangement is mess. Too many modulations. There are so many deeply beautiful moments in it, but it feels ungrounded.

HER RUNS ARE SICK ❤ her
Huge props to Mayer for writing an ever-lasting beast of a song. Legendary arrangement by Yebba
I think the arrangement was put together by Francies - the keys player.
Looks like the arranger was the hugely talented James Francies according to the credits.
y'all it was both of them. obviously james is the major component of harmonic structure/key change present but yebba is no slouch and certainly had a ton of input.
Her voice sounds like an ancient instrument, almost medieval.
Totally agree, you could imagine her voice in the film excalibur !
@@Turbotina73 OMG I see ittt
Aye, she mimes the hurdy gurdy, but gentler on the ear.

Lyrics 💖
Close your eyes and clone yourself
Build your heart and army
To defend your innocence
While you do everything wrong
Don't be scared to walk alone
Don't be scared to like it
There's no time that you must be home
So sleep where your darkness falls
Alive in the age of worry
Smile in the age of worry
Go wild in the age of worry
And sing Worry, why should I care?
No you fight is not within
Yours is with your timing
Dream your dreams but don't pretend
Be friends with what you are
Give your heart then change your mind
You're allowed to do it
'Cause God knows it's been done to you
And somehow you got through it
Alive in the age of worry
Rage in the age of worry
Sing out in the age of worry
And sing Worry, why should I care?
Rage in the age of worry
Act your age in the age of worry
And sing Worry, get out of here!
