Wilkinson might be one of the greatest defender at 10 but Carter surely one of the best in reading the opposition play. And I don’t think his defence is underrated. One of the reason people lauded him as the greatest is because he can do everything. A great commander of the game, slick hands, accurate kicker, solid tackler, run hard lines, explosive strength, slick running.
So well deserved, after playing for his country for so long and missing out on the last world cup, it is very fitting that he not only gets to play the whole world cup in 2015 but is man of the match in the winning final. I was so stoked for him after this.
Creepy how well he played. I was amazed that he vindicated his 2011 disappointment. The definition of a fairytale ending. Great initial question by the interviewer at the end too! Perfection all-round ❤️
World class game management, by Carter. Not only did he suffer injury in 2011, but also did in the 2007 quarter final exit to France. So 2015 was something really special for him.
I remember watching this in the dead of night as a die-hard Wallabies supporter, just thinking that this guy was an immovable road block for us every time he did literally anything
Nah the game turned when Carter kicked for touch and gained 40ish metres. As he's running forward he starts yelling encouragement at the troops. Within two minutes of that moment he leads from the front by hitting the drop goal. The turning point was the kick for touch. 1:16.
This Final game he got me finally. 2 years later I was in NZL, bought a blank NZL tricot shirt in Auckland and asked the shop for printing the 10 on the Back! Though he quit, but his Legacy remains!
carters moment this why carter spent all them hours kicking at them posts his parents bought for him for this moment here im happy they got this moment
dc rose in the mehrtens spencer hour so naturally had a balance of both but he developed his test match abilities and we all know footy games are won with the foot at the highest level
I cannot believe that you didn't show his general play and set up of tries. Great video and I thank you. But in NZ to win a match without scoring tries, is but ashes in our mouths. Great game but he played a much greater part in the match than you show, If I may say so. Check out his game V Lions 2005. He kicked at goal well. Which you show here, his kicking from hand was even better, he set up 2 tries and scored 2 tries, for probably the greatest display by a rugby 10 ever.
Can't wait for next year to see what Barrett does in the world Cup. Even if they don't win I can see him getting a record number of tries considering he scored 4 against Australia.
It was ironic Smith got a yellow for a dumb tackle in the 2nd half, but Carter was deliberately, and repeatedly head hunted throughout the first half and no Wallabies were sent off. Anyhow, we won but the repeated calls from the Ozzies about cheating, in the face of their own play was hilarious.
Carter is a very smooth striker of the ball when goal kicker unlike current Nz 5/8 Beaudan Barrett. Beaudan is a great running & attacking 5/8, but when he goal kicks it seems like he jabs at the ball without smooth clean strike from likes of Merthens, Carter, Morn Steyn, Grant Fox & Wilkinson. Hell, even Mounga & McKenzie seem to have a better & more reliable & consistent goal kicking technique than Beaudan. Carter's consistent goal kicking & drip goals under pressure played huge part ABs winning both matchea against SA & Aust, shame neither Beaudan or McKenzie had Carter's same composure to put away Sth Africa last weekend in Wellington
Kim Kim In my opinion people who say Barrett are just crazy. He can’t kick as consistently as Dan Carter did. Barrett can run fast though, but he just can’t kick well. He’s a great player but you can’t just compare him to Dan Carter. I know I might sound a bit biased because I am a Chiefs fan, but I honestly think that McKenzie is underrated when it comes to international rugby. When you ever watch another All Blacks game on TV just watch McKenzie and every time he gets the ball he gains quite a few metres or maybe scores or sets up a try. You still can’t compare Damien to Carter though.
Biggie Smalls I know they played in the semis. It would just have been a way more competitive final had south africa played in the actual final against new zealand
Don’t get me wrong, I thinks he was an incredible player, possibly the best ever. But these highlights don’t exactly show a man of the match performance. A load of kicks at goal, a clearance, a drop goal (a great one I’ll grant) and a chip through which he didn’t collect.
those highlight could put people to sleep. Great kicker, especially the touch finder and drop-goal but was that an 8 out of 10 or above performance? No. It also showed two pretty poor example of "tackling". From memory the All Blacks pack targetted Pocock all game and he still look magnificent. I'm not an Aussie fan btw
He also made total 11 tackles in that final. I always feel his defensive play is underrated.
995sean Yeah, was not the biggest player out there but his tackling was very technical. He was a joy to watch in every aspect.
Wilkinson was a better defender and drop kicker otherwise DC had the rest, both I loved watching.

Yeah its just under the shadow of all his other extraordinary stats
Canterbury
Man greatest first five/fly half in rugby history. Will never be another one like him.
Proud Kiwi Barrett keeps getting better and better though.
I wouldn’t say that, New Zealand has a habit of producing world class players
Lmao not even close
@@dl26914 He is what are you talking about?
In that last 20 minutes he sealed his place in history as the greatest Flyhalf of all time.
He is the greatest Flyhalf of all time.
What a shame though.
That his immediate successor will take that title away from him.
Matt Murdock Im rooting for Bauden but he's got a hell of a long way to go in his career before he can touch that crown.
My crystal ball gazing predicts Damian Mackenzie has the potential to possibly continue that line of succession
diulikadikaday .
diulikadikaday
Hahahaha you're dreaming
And he kicked the final conversion with his right foot.
i think you mean his wrong foot lolololol
Ben Grant Ha! exactly... wait, I dont think he has a wrong foot.
995sean not for the drop-goal
What I mean is that he didn't use his right boot for the drop goal
ItzTermz yes Wilkinson's drop kick to win the world cup was with his right boot. watch it again.
The Aussie's tried to take Dan out with 3 late tackles. Cheap tactics. He took it all in his stride. Amazing cool character shown.
That drop goal vs the springboks in the semis will never be forgotten
So well deserved, after playing for his country for so long and missing out on the last world cup, it is very fitting that he not only gets to play the whole world cup in 2015 but is man of the match in the winning final. I was so stoked for him after this.
the ballboy cathes every ball thats amazing
Creepy how well he played. I was amazed that he vindicated his 2011 disappointment. The definition of a fairytale ending. Great initial question by the interviewer at the end too! Perfection all-round ❤️
And his natural - "Oh man.." response cracked me up too 😂
World class game management, by Carter. Not only did he suffer injury in 2011, but also did in the 2007 quarter final exit to France. So 2015 was something really special for him.
He kicked the drop goal, and kicked his final conversion with his opposite foot
❤️
The greatest first five to ever lace a pair of boots! “DC” 💪🏼💯🗣
I remember watching this in the dead of night as a die-hard Wallabies supporter, just thinking that this guy was an immovable road block for us every time he did literally anything
i reckon the drop goal was the turning point.....had a goosebumps everytime watching it....the flyhalf in the world!!
Nah the game turned when Carter kicked for touch and gained 40ish metres. As he's running forward he starts yelling encouragement at the troops. Within two minutes of that moment he leads from the front by hitting the drop goal. The turning point was the kick for touch. 1:16.
stutter step, stutter step bang! straight down the middle- King clutch Dan, what a talent.
I would love him to come back someday and coach for the All Blacks
I could watch this guy kick goals all day.
Greatest flyhalf of all time!! My all time fav rugby player
Today DC can walk into the current ABs squad with ease, and Richie
Final conversion in an ABs jersey, right footed and still flying.. Absolute legend in New Zealand 🇳🇿
Best game from a flyhalf at any World Cup
iWonaMathDebate exactly
+Marion Scott Thanks for the reply, made me open up the link and watch this again! Made my Sunday lol.
Man, Wilkinson's game in 2003 was quite great too
His 33 points against the Lions competes with this too.
31lafouine Wilkinson actually missed a couple kicks that night, just hit the one that counted most.
This Final game he got me finally.
2 years later I was in NZL, bought a blank NZL tricot shirt in Auckland and asked the shop for printing the 10 on the Back!
Though he quit, but his Legacy remains!
Dan Carter : such a magical and accurate kicking boot
Most complete fly half ever.
Bada Bing888 bada boom
Player - And still only
I lived in the age of the best 10 to play the game our Prince Daniel carter
As a South African I have to say this was greatness personified.
Best fly half in Last 25/30 years for me
1- Dan Carter
2- Jonh Wilkinson
3- Larkham
Dan coming back to super rugby is the greatest thing ever but the at same time the most heart breaking moment as a crusaders fan.
Not only the goat fly half but the goat of the game IMO
The flyest flyhalf ever
Best 10 ever.
The masterpiece of RUGBY
Most complete 10 in history………daylight to second.
Love the guy and I think the best 10 the world has ever seen but I still think Richie McCaw was the man of the match that night
You could say that about most of McCaw's148 matches. Carter was immense in the last 2 games of the WC, though.
When NZ needed DC the most he delivered. Watching this live I will never forget. DC is the GOAT
Average points per game, and successful kicking % makes Dan a clear winner really.. that and the fact that so many Englishmen picked him haha
His expressions 😍
I love this Man
georgia carter lol yip 2 sharp.
carters moment this why carter spent all them hours kicking at them posts his parents bought for him for this moment here
im happy they got this moment
dc rose in the mehrtens spencer hour so naturally had a balance of both but he developed his test match abilities and we all know footy games are won with the foot at the highest level
that last kick with his right foot
awasome kicker, smooth smooth technique
Easily the best 10 to ever play the game.

yes he set up runs in that game too
Utter beast of the game
The One and Only
I liked that kit, everyone wearing black boots

beauden barret could learn a thing or 2
Richie Mounga*
Magic man

Dan the man!
Legend
My *Inspiration* since day 1
CLASS!!
What an amazing day that was
What a boy. Dan Carter.
The ice man
Michael Jones?
And the Aussies "late tackled" him 3 times, still bossed the game.
Carter , the most protected no:10 ( by refs ) in the history of rugby.
DC is the G.O.A.T hands down!
Carter is a very smooth striker of the ball when goal kicker unlike current Nz 5/8 Beaudan Barrett. It's 'Beauden'...
22 warriors thinking like one thinker. "Ti hei mauriora!"
His retirement announcement brought me here 🐐
Dan vs Jonny ! Who is the best Flyhalf
Nz is still looking for his replacement. .amazing player

Legend Barely made the Ball boy move the whole game
You are the mane to me 🤙🤙😂😂😂😂

If only barter could kick conversions like dan
ლეგენდა კაცი

Johnny Wilkinson who?
👍👍👍
Bismarck !!!
South Africa should have played new zealand in the final
Biggie Smalls I know they played in the semis. It would just have been a way more competitive final had south africa played in the actual final against new zealand
Tony Brown was better........at throwing a good party!!!
PARTY AT TONY BROWN'S PLACE EVERYONE😁😁😁🍺🍺🍺
Ollie Campbell would have put him in his pocket ☘️☘️☘️☘️
He's my mate.
Hooray!!!
im so mad that he moved to france
..and he wasn't even in his prime.
Easily better than Johnny. Johnny is good but Dan is a different level.
Damn, he's really good looking, I might turn gay.
According to J.K Rowling, you are already gay before you even know i
So you turn gay and then what

Take those kicks away from the score and we lose the game bro. That was a MoTM performance in a world cup final with out a doubt.
i have beans in my pantyhose
TheChubbmann I've got a sausage wanna mash em together?
where is a laughing emoji when u need one
i have aids in my eyehole
Dan "over the limit" Carter
He was pretty special. Which is why he's the best fly half ever - after Jonny Wilkinson.
JOHN KNOWLES
Haha no.
Only in your dreams.
Drunk driver
ok t bone we get the message
Daniel 'wasted' Carter.
Jonno will always be number 1 but at his best Carter is easily the best ever
Tommy C
Carter beats Wilko in both consistency and peak performance lol.
1st test all blacks vs lions 2005...they say the greatest single performance by a 1st five by Carter.....Jonno does not have any worthy of mention....
@@tofuolatapaleao4921 true jonno was nobody in that match.
@@tofuolatapaleao4921 I think you mean the 2nd Lions test.
like DC but stephen larkham is still my no.1
